Rejoicing in Afflictions
By Regina

Romans 5:2-4 “Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.”

The Definition of Affliction

1. A state of pain, distress, or grief; misery: They sympathized with us in our affliction.
2. A cause of mental or bodily pain, as sickness, loss, calamity, or persecution

Syn: Calamity; sorrow; distress; grief; pain; adversity; misery; wretchedness; misfortune; trouble; hardship.

Usage: Affliction and sorrow are terms of wide and general application; grief and distress have reference to particular cases. Affliction is the stronger term. The suffering lies deeper in the soul, and usually arises from some powerful cause, such as the loss of what is most dear — friends, health, etc. We do not speak of mere sickness or pain as "an affliction," though one who suffers from either is said to be afflicted; but deprivations of every kind, such as deafness, blindness, loss of limbs, etc., are called afflictions, showing that term applies particularly to prolonged sources of suffering. Sorrow and grief are much alike in meaning, but grief is the stronger term of the two, usually denoting poignant mental suffering for some definite cause, as, grief for the death of a dear friend; sorrow is more reflective, and is tinged with regret, as, the misconduct of a child is looked upon with sorrow. Grief is often violent and demonstrative; sorrow deep and brooding. Distress implies extreme suffering, either bodily or mental. In its higher stages, it denotes pain of a restless, agitating kind, and almost always supposes some struggle of mind or body. Affliction is allayed, grief subsides, sorrow is soothed, and distress is mitigated.

Psalm 6:6 “I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my pillow and drench my bed every night.”

How many times have you felt this way? Been suffering from pain, distress, grief or misery and asked God, “God, why is this happening to me? It’s not fair! What have I done to deserve this? When will it end?”

It took me quite a while to more fully understand why Father would want us to rejoice in our afflictions, and how we were expected to do so. When I read Romans 5:2-4 which is quoted at the start of this article, I understood completely that afflictions produce endurance and endurance produces proven character. I could see how each affliction endured was like a hurdle we must jump and how there were lessons along the way that make us stronger and wiser. But rejoice? How could I possibly be GLAD that I’m experiencing pain, distress, grief or misery? I could endure…but how much character did I need? And how long would it take to obtain proven character?

And then late one night as I prayed for strength during a time of mental stress and suffering, I heard within my mind, “rejoice in your afflictions, for they bring you closer to Me.”.

And I’d have to say that’s when it hit me. Who do I turn to when I’m suffering and affliction? Father. She’s the one who provides comfort and who speaks to and guides my heart in any given situation. And while afflictions do definitely produce endurance and proven character, they also bring us closer to Her when She is the one we turn to when we’re experiencing these afflictions – She hears our prayers and sees our tears. And they also bring us further along the narrow path in making it home to Her for Eternity, which is yet another way of coming closer to Her.

2 Kings 20:5 "Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of My people, 'This is what the LORD God of your ancestor David says: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the third day [from now] you will go up to the LORD's temple.”

So now I understand why we should rejoice in our afflictions, knowing that Father is there to comfort, guide, and counsel and support us each and every step of the way. Rejoice and continue looking to Her and thanking Her for each day that goes by regardless of if it's a day with or without afflictions. Rejoice in knowing She’s the One who is always faithfully there for us and She is the One who soothes our sorrows, allays our afflictions and mitigates our distress and rejoice in knowing that through it all we grow ever closer to Her.

And finally, rejoice in knowing that it will not be forever… for the LORD has also spoken the following words:

Isaiah 25:8 “He will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face and remove His people's disgrace from the whole earth, for the LORD has spoken.”

What Jesus Endured
By Johanna

I wanted to write about endurance. It takes a lot of endurance to walk the Narrow Path to Father. We all have trials and tribulations that we have went through and will go through but have you ever stopped to think about the trials and tribulations that Jesus when through? He had to endure many, many things. Jesus was tempted by Satan after. He had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. Could you just imagine how hungry He was? Jesus told Satan “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Satan also asked Jesus to prove that he was the Son of God, by throwing himself down from the top of a temple. But yet Jesus didn’t do as Satan asked but told him. “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.” Jesus felt in His heart that He didn’t have to prove who He was to Satan or anybody for that matter. Yet again Satan tried to tempt Jesus by saying that he would give Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor if only Jesus would fall down and worship him. Do you all know what Jesus told Satan? Jesus told him “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.” How many of you can truly say that they could have endured that?

Matthew 4:1-11 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. After He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, He was hungry. Then the tempted approached Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” But He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Then the Devil took Him to the holy city, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you and, they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus told him, “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.” Again, the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. And he said to Him, “I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.” Then the Devil left Him, and immediately angels came and began to serve Him.

Jesus went back to His hometown to teach them their synagogue but they did not believe He was a carpenters son so Jesus didn’t do many miracles there because of their unbelief. What do you think Jesus went through while he was in his hometown? The people in his hometown didn’t see how He could have had that much knowledge being a carpenters son. They didn’t believe Him to be the Son of God. Why do you think that Jesus arguing. Jesus spoke the truth and who ever didn’t take it as truth he walked away from. That is what our Ministry is. Jesus is our example. And what a wonderful example He is. Do you think it took endurance for Jesus to stand up in front of His hometown to teach them?

Matthew 13:54-58 He went to His hometown and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “How did this wisdom and these miracles come to Him? Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother called Mary, and His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, aren’t that all with us? So where does He get all these things?” And they were offended by Him. But Jesus said t them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his household.” And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Jesus predicted His own death and resurrection. Think about the Faith in His Father He had knowing how He was going to die. The pain He would go through. Jesus predicted His own death more than one time. If he wasn’t the Son of God how would He have known about His death?

Matthew 16:21-23 From then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, “Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to You!” But He turned and told Peter, “Get behind Me Satan! You are an offense to Me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns, but man’s.”

Matthew 17:22-23 As they were meeting in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.” And they were deeply distressed.

Matthew 20: 17-19 While going up to Jerusalem, Jesus took the 12 disciples aside privately and said to them on the way: “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day.”

Jesus’ authority was also challenged by His own people when He was in the temple complex in Bethany. That also took great endurance on His part.

Matthew 21:23-27 When He entered the temple complex, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to Him as He was teaching and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? Who gave You this authority?” Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for Me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Where did John’s baptism come from? From heaven or from men?” They began to argue among themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven, ‘He will say to us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought John was a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Jesus endured many things in His 33 years of life for US. He was arrested by the chief priests and elders. He let them arrest Him so the Scriptures would be fulfilled. Did that take endurance on Jesus’ part to LET them take him knowing what was going to happen to Him?

Matthew 26:47-56 While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. A large mob, with swords and clubs, was with him from the chief priests and elders of the people. His betrayer had given them a sign: “The One I kiss, He’s the One; arrest Him!” So he went right up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”- and kissed Him. ‘Friend,” Jesus asked him, “Why have you come?” Then they came up, took hold of Jesus, and arrested Him. At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his ear. Then Jesus told him, “Put your sword back in place because all who take up a sword will perish by a sword. Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels? How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?” At that time Jesus said that the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture Me? Every day I used to sit, teaching in the temple complex, and you didn’t arrest Me. But all this has happened so that the prophetic Scriptures would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and ran away.

Jesus was tied up and handed over to Pilate the governor washed his hands in front of the crowd and said to them “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See it to yourselves!” Jesus was then handed over to the governor’s soldiers where they dressed Him in a scarlet robe and pushed a crown of thorns onto His head. They mocked Jesus by saying ‘Hail King of the Jews!”

Matthew 27:11-14 Now Jesus stood before the governor.” Are you the King of the Jews?” the governor asked Him. Jesus answered, ‘You have said it. “ And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He didn’t answer. Then Pilate said to Him, “Don’t you hear how much they are testifying against You?” But He didn’t answer him on even one charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.

Matthew 27: 15-25 At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted. At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it you want me to release for you-Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Messiah?” For he knew they had handed Him over because of envy. While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of Him!” The chief priest and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus. The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” Barabbas!” they answered, “Crucify Him!” The he said, “Why? What has He done wrong?” But they kept shouting, “Crucify Him!” all the more. When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of his man’s blood. See to it yourselves!” All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”

Matthew 27:27-30 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into headquarters and gathered the whole company around Him. They stripped Him and dressed Him in a scarlet robe. They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spit at Him, took the reed, and kept hitting Him on the head.

I think the one thing that took the most endurance was when Jesus had to carry His cross which He was going to be nailed too to die. How many of you would have done that of your own free will? While He was up on the cross insults were being yelled at Him as people walked by. They mocked Him by saying “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!

Matthew 27:38-44 Then two criminals were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. Those who passed by were yelling insults at Him, shaking their heads and saying, “The One who would demolish the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked Him and said, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him. He has put His trust in God; let God rescue Him now-If He wants Him! For He said, ‘I am God’s Son.’ “In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with Him kept taunting Him.

When we think about our trials and tribulations that we have had and think about how hard we may have it in life we always should stop and step back to remember what Jesus went through with his trials and tribulations. Even though He is the Son of God doesn’t mean He had it easy. Matter of fact I believe He had it even harder than most of us do in our lives.

Of Fulfilling Desire

Proverbs 13:12 — Delayed hope makes the heart sick, but fulfilled desire is a tree of life.

Proverbs 13:19 — Desire fulfilled is sweet to the taste, but fools hate to turn from evil.

James 1:14-15 — But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.

James 4:2-3 — You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and don't receive because you ask wrongly, so that you may spend it on your desires for pleasure.

Proverbs 21:2 — All the ways of a man seem right to him, but the LORD evaluates the motives.

There really only seem to be a few different aspects to desire, and their implications seem to be quite large. The first two aspects are that desire can be good, or it can be evil. It can be a desire for good things, or it can be a desire for bad things. Both of which can be stored up in a person's heart, and drive them to different points of which will lead in one of two places, towards life, or towards death. Desires are also seemingly expressed in different ways and one might be able to derive what a person's desires really are by trying continually deriving “between the lines” of a person's conduct and speech. In this way, everything about a person can provide clear signs of the complete motives and reasons for what a person does, and what they are actually seeking. However, these are all only outward things, and one may not easily be able to see what's going on on in the inside.

Proverbs 14:13 — Even in laughter a heart may be sad, and joy may end in grief.

Ecclesiastes 7:3 — Grief is better than laughter, for when a face is sad, a heart may be glad.

Father is able to weigh all the motives and aspects of a person, because Father can see that which cannot be seen. We are made from the basis of Her very own energy.

Now, determining what nature a desire has within a person's heart requires reflection and patience. Reflection, because one must be willing to take the time to delve into their own heart and realize what is actually going on, and patience, because as deceitful as the heart can be, it will take understanding and growth and Father's Light and Wisdom in order to come to greater terms with one's desires, especially in knowing what to do about them. Brainlessly following one's desires and passions can lead in the wrong direction much of the time, especially since sin is something humans are just born into at the current time. As well, since Father can see all the things that are going on within a person's heart, it makes much sense to go to Father for guidance and help in trying to look at one's own being.

On a second point, desire also seems like there are two things a person can do about it, a good thing, and a bad thing. Taking a correct course of action would only be supplied by Father, as Her wisdom will provide the support one needs to do the right things. Taking an incorrect course of action will only yield pain and suffering for oneself, and for others, as well. The interesting concept about this, though, is that there are now, actually, four different possibilities that occur. The first couple possibilities are taking a good desire, and then taking either the good or bad course of action, and then taking a bad desire, and taking either the good or bad course of action. This can make the narrow path quite thin, already, because it yields only a few ways to actually do the right thing. In this, by doing the right thing with a bad desire, one simply ends the desire and does not allow themselves to act upon it. This is good because it stops something bad from happening, and it does help enable there to be room to grow good fruits rather than bad ones. Rather, though, it does not actually spurn forth anything totally good. Then, if one takes a good desire and treats it like a bad one, taking the wrong course of action, they will only find that they are putting to death something that is totally innocent. That, in itself, is a sin, because it is taking a gift from Father, something pure and good, and destroying it, which could open oneself up for doing further bad. There is truly a balance, and the narrow path only gets more narrow as one further comes to understand their own desires and all the implications thereafter.

Now, this is only simply a basis for understanding a much larger concept, which is in how a desire can also be multifaceted. It may be difficult to consider, but there are multiple dimensions to which a desire can be applied and exist in one's heart. Just like faith without works is dead, so can a desire become a festering wound in one's being if left without something being done about it. This adds a concept of time, because in actuality, a person doesn't have all the ability to just allow their desire to just exist until it is acted upon at a more “convenient” time. One can have patience, but there must also be endurance. If there is an evil desire in one's heart, and they know it is evil, the desire to act on that evil will pull and tear at a person's very feelings. Being able to remove such an evil desire would take time, endurance, patience, long suffering, and so much more, especially including love. If love is not a part of the removal process, there might seemingly be no reason at all for the removal. However, one must not be trying to remove the good from their heart, because doing so would be to pit good attitudes against good desires, and that doesn't help anyone.

Another concept to further take this forward, is in how one desire can influence another desire. It is possible that one evil desire can spread to poisoning all the other desires one has, like an infectious virus or parasite. The way an evil desire would press its own way amongst one's other desires can be a sign to itself as to what type of desire it really is. Yet, taking this concept in terms of good desires, all good desires will easily balance and correlate and work together with all other good desires. At the same time, one who has a mixture of both good and bad desires will find there to be continual conflict within themselves until one side wins out. If evil wins, sin comes, and that produces death. If good wins, life may continue, all dependent on Father. If at any one point one's focus veers off of Father, then Father's own help may not be able to be available to allow good to prevail. That is, without truth, wisdom, righteousness, and all the good fruits that truly do grow from Father's guidance and direction, there doesn't seem to be any light for which the darkness can be fought off. Based on that concept, the following is also true:

Proverbs 18:1 — One who isolates himself pursues [selfish] desires; he rebels against all sound judgment.

And selfish desires are works of the flesh, which Father's Spirit does not work with.

Nothing of the above hasn't been known before, either. Just based on the quotes, it can be seen that all one has to do is continually search for the answers to their questions, and by doing so, they will definitely find more than what they were initially seeking. That is, if they are under Father's guidance. Not seeking the truth will not help one to find what it is they are actually seeking, and the motives and desires behind a person will help to determine whether Father will guide oneself towards Her.

Deuteronomy 4:29 — But from there, you will search for the LORD your God, and you will find [Him] when you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul.

Just things to keep in mind as the times draw more difficult events, and the system of the world around oneself breaks down. Father won't let those righteous be destroyed.

Genesis 18:32 — Then he said, "Let the Lord not be angry, and I will speak one more time. Suppose 10 are found there?"
He answered, "I will not destroy [it] on account of 10."

Gaining knowledge is part of Father's plan from the beginning of creation.

Psalm 139:6 "[This] extraordinary knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty; I am unable to [reach] it." All lofty knowledge comes from Father whom bears Her spiritual insight with those She loves.

Proverbs 1:3-5 3 "for receiving wise instruction
[in] righteousness, justice, and integrity;

4 for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced,
knowledge and discretion to a young man—

5 a wise man will listen and increase his learning,
and a discerning man will obtain guidance—"

All knowledge originates with and comes from the Source of knowledge.

Psalm 94:10 "The One who instructs nations, the One who teaches man knowledge— does He not discipline?" Father has given healthful instructions even to the nations but they do not listen, and for this they must receive Father's discipline. Death comes in more than one form as a punishment. If it is part of harsh punishment for wrong doing as in Adam and Eve's case, or even in the eventuality of Satan and his demons and the converts, it means (death) that it is the cessation of the gift of life. Taking back what was given as a gift from the only One capable of giving life. Misuse of the gift results in a cease to existence.

cessation >noun the fact or process of ceasing.
-ORIGIN Latin, from cessare 'cease'

The coming kingdom of Christ Jesus is an exclusive club that does not permit certain misused-life to enter its domain. Those that falter afterward will be ceased from existence also. It is to return to what a creation was before it became filled with life-giving spirit of Father.

Genesis 3:19 "You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust."

The universe of creation is filled with dust. We are all dust of one sort or another.

Revelation 21:8 "But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

As I stated earlier, the kingdom club membership is exclusive and bars certain specks of dust from eternal membership. Keep in mind that the testing periods is a culling process that will eventually leave only the right inhabitants in an eternal kingdom of bliss. Even Satan and his demons are permitted to remain for a time, but eventually even they will become nonexistent for misuse of their free gifts of life. They will in effect be outside of Father, in the darkness of eternal death.

Revelation 22:15 "Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying."

2 Kings 14:6 "However, he did not put the children of the murderers to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses where the LORD commanded, "Fathers must not be put to death because of children, and children must not be put to death because of fathers; instead, each one will be put to death for his own sin."

The gift of life, whether it be resumed or terminated for eternity rests upon each of our own heads. Father gives choices, but there is only one choice that leads to eternal life.

Father wants your knowledge refreshed and extended beyond what you might already know.

A new learning technique. With this post you'll be given an opportunity to discern by Father's Spirit what is meant. If you get something wrong, your error will be corrected by the Word's true meanings. The Word in whole comes from Father, so Father is the one gifting your insight by Scriptures and by Her Spirit.

Let's begin. Since the Messiah was formulated under Father's War Plan – not the Divine Plan which was originally different but now has the War Plan incorporated into its essence. As an example, the original Divine Plan was for no sin to take place. All of creation was to obey Father and live in harmony with Her will. At that time – the time before Dawn Lucifer and Adam and Eve sinned, there was only the Divine Plan that Michael had taught us. But as sin entered the theater of creation, Father formulated the War Plan that would put Her Divine Plan back on track. She made a deal with the Archangel Michael to become a King over Her entire creation. This part of the War Plan would become a binding part of the Divine Plan because Michael would be directly responsible for putting the Divine Plan back on track to Father's original plan with the incorporation of added features that did not originally exist within the scope of the original Divine Plan. One feature has been mentioned. Michael as the King over Father's creation, subject only to Father. The second feature is that of transforming some humans into angelic hosts. That was never part of Father's original plan, but due to a change in creation's circumstances, Father considered the alternatives and opted to do so. That is also a permanent binding part of Father's incorporation to the overall Divine Plan. Since Dawn Lucifer chose to sin and bring in accomplices, he became Satan the archenemy, and his followers of angelic hosts became resisters of Father's sovereignty as well. In addition, mankind was pulled into the issue and became resisters of Father's family as well. Father, after counseling with Michael the Archangel, declared formal war by heavenly scroll against the Son's of Darkness. The original title of the scroll was: "The Son's of Light against the Son's of Darkness." This brought the War Plan to life, for Father does nothing without due process of Her own law.

The new plan that involved war so that the Divine Plan could be brought back on track was and is what has been going on since the declaration of war began. It has been just over the six-thousand year mark in its turbulence, and it will not end until sometime after the Millennium when Satan and his followers are completely executed from the existence of creation. When the Divine Plan is back on track, the original death sentence will remain in tack that governs anyone whom might choose to disobey Father. Disobedience has carried the promise of eternal death since the start of Michael's creation, even before the start of time as you all know it. Michael's bi-creation began the marking of time. Satan, he sought to thwart Father's Divine Plan by causing mankind to sin. When he realized that Father had taken counsel with Michael to rectify the situation, he then pulled many angelic hosts into his web of rebellion by enticing them to come to this planet and to cohabit with humans. Disobedience of Father's laws laid out was the key to bringing in confederates. The act of sinful conduct whether by self wilful act in Dawn Lucifers own case, or by that of being enticed in the case of the first fallen angelic hosts by putting forth improper desire to manifest flesh and live among humans, or by prompting the first woman Eve to eat from a tree she was commanded not to, or by Eve's mate that chose to take Dawn Lucifer's course of action and wilfully sin when he knew better, they are all in the same boat with Father. Disobedience in even the smallest thing is still disobedience to Father's will, and that is how She views perfected creations that rebel against Her law. One can say "law" only, because if you break one law you have broken all laws in Father's eyes.

Even today, the once glorious Dawn Lucifer Covering Cherub who has become Satan the Devil archenemy of Father Yahweh, is now nothing more than a physical star that is slowly burning out of existence. Like his former protege Adolf Hitler, Satan is personally held responsible for his tremendous sins as well as personally responsible for the eternal deaths that have resulted in past judgment and those that will occur until all salvagable intelligent creations have been perfected to Father's law. After that, which will occur after the Millennium, each person will stand on their own merit as Christ Jesus hands back his mediator capacity of being the Savior to Father’s people (1 Corinthians 15:28) so that each individual creation that came under the Ransom Sacrifice can then stand on their own and prove not only their love for Father but also their loyalty to Her sovereignty. Many demons claim to have love for Father, but they were disloyal to Her throne. You cannot have one attribute without the other. They go hand in hand for continued eternal life. Now we move forward on this lesson since you've been given the background for opening your minds and hearts to this next portion. What was Jesus Christ's message to the covenant people he was sent to minister to? Please read Mark 1:14. 15. And, what was his message to the Pharisees? If the two messages seem to differ, why so? Because in reality, they did not differ. Please read Luke 17:21, 22.

Mark 1:14. 15. "Ministry in Galilee After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the good news of God: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe in the good news!"

Luke 17:21, 22. "Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God will come, He answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with something observable; no one will say, 'Look here!' or 'There!' For you see, the kingdom of God is among you."

What did Jesus mean that it was not observable? Yet, it was among them. What did he mean by that when he also told his covenant people that the Kingdom of God has come near? Pray for guidance and nourishment of Father's Spirit.

Updated: 2009-09-12

For years, UFOs have fascinated people, from those in the serious business of science to the layperson. The debate still rages, most of all in the US, the center of the scientific world. But the latest sighting, many claim, has been in China, even though the scientist who is supposed to have sighted it says: "That's false news. I said 'an unidentified object' not 'an unidentified flying object'." Ji Haisheng, director of Nanjing-based Purple Mountain Observatory, pronounces each word carefully to clarify that he hasn't made any claim of seeing a UFO during the July 22 solar eclipse, which could be seen across China. The Daily Mail, however, reported on Sept 7 that China had "confirmed (that) 40 minutes of footage of the object was captured during this summer's solar eclipse and that research has already started on a year-long investigation to find out what it is".

Second UFO sighting over Streatham – the truth is out there
2:10pm Saturday 12th September 2009
This Is Local

A second UFO sighting in the skies over Streatham and the curious disappearance from YouTube of the original video footage have fuelled speculation that something strange is going on. On Tuesday night at around 10.30pm Gary Richardson, 42, was out walking his dogs when he saw a UFO displaying unusual-shaped lights slipping silently over Mitcham towards Streatham, before suddenly disappearing. Three weeks ago TV editor and sci-fi fan Mark McConnell called the Guardian newsroom reporting that he had seen a similar object, three lights giving off a dull glow, hovering 200ft over St George's hospital on the night of August 14. Mr McConnell managed to video what he saw and loaded it onto the internet site YouTube so people could make up their own minds. But shortly afterwards the video disappeard from the site.

Weekend rash of UFO reports include sightings in Pittsburgh, Jeannette; multiple reports in Ohio
September 8, 2009

It was a busy holiday weekend for UFO sightings in the region. Locally, reports were received of sightings in Pittsburgh, and Jeannette, while there appeared to be a massive outbreak of sightings in Ohio, particularly in the metropolitan Cincinnati region. The following are reports that have been received: Jeannette, Pennsylvania – September 5, 2009 – Witness has reported repeated sightings of over a dozen orange/yellow orbs coming out of the woods in front of the valley where he lives. Having had previous similar sightings in May, the witness has been observing this area on a frequent basis. One after another came up from the woods, turned on what appeared to be conventional FAA lights, before speeding up and flying off. Some appear to start flashing out of nowhere, higher up from the area without having the orb appearance at first. This area is actually located near a Penn Township golf course near the border of Murrysville. Note: the Murrysville area has been the "epicenter" of many sightings over the past year. The witness claims to have taken photographs of the area after seeing some faint flashes. The photographs reveal multiple orbs, several of which are orange or yellow. The witness drove to the maintenance road by the golf course and observed an "active plasma ball orb" hovering above the golf course. As the witness attempted to shoot some pictures, the object moved to the right behind a patch of trees. The witness then drove to another location to attempt to get a better view of the object. From there, the witness was able to get a better angle of the object and claimed it "transformed into a 'fake plane' by blinking a colored light on each side of the large orb, which tones down into a headlight appearance, then turns off to reveal what appears to be a regular wing-tip navigation red/green lights with flashing white strobes." As the object flies over, the white strobes illuminate what appears to be a tail. Blow-ups of the still photographs reveals that the "tail" is a structure that changes and transforms a little between each shot.

12-year-old snaps photo of UFO over Arizona neighborhood
September 10, 2009

A 12-year-old Arizona girl was getting the mail when she spotted a UFO hovering over her neighborhood street and snapped two images with her cell phone camera, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database. The mother states that her daughter snapped the first photo where the object appears to hover above the street. In the second photo, the object is moving away and has tiled. Following is the unedited report filed by the child's mother. AZ, May 2009 – round squart object flat on bottom with thicker midsection and tapering top. MUFON Case # 19210. My 12 year old daughter went to check the mail box and as she walked outside our house she witnessed floating above our street a round object not too far in the distance. she quickly grabed her cell phone in her pocket and snapped off two photos.

Britain: Question a Doctor and Lose Your Child
Times Online
by Daniel Foggo
September 10, 2009

PARENTS are being threatened with having their children taken into care after questioning doctors’ diagnoses or objecting to their medical care. John Hemming, a Liberal Democrat MP, who campaigns to stop injustices in the family court, said: “Very often care proceedings are used as retaliation by local authorities against ‘uppity’ people who question the system.” Cases are emerging across the UK: The mother of a 13-year-old girl who became partly paralysed after being given a cervical cancer vaccination says social workers have told her the child may be removed if she (the mother) continues to link her condition with the vaccination. A couple had all six of their children removed from their care after they disputed the necessity of an invasive medical test on their eldest daughter. Doctors, who suspected she might have had a blood disease, called for social services to obtain an emergency protection order, although it was subsequently confirmed that she was not suffering from the condition. The parents were still considered unstable, and all their children were taken from them.

Uruguay allows same-sex adoption
September 9, 2009

Same-sex couples in Uruguay will be able to adopt children following the approval of a controversial bill by the country's senate. The move means Uruguay becomes the first Latin American country to allow gay couples the chance to adopt. Some 17 of 23 senators voted in favour of the new legislation, AFP reports. The change – opposed by the Catholic Church – is the latest in a series of liberalising measures supported by left-wing President Tabare Vazquez. The archbishop of Montevideo, Nicolas Cotugno, said before the vote that it would be a "serious error to accept the adoption of children by homosexual couples". "It's not about religion, philosophy or sociology. It's something which is mainly about the respect of human nature itself," he said in a statement quoted by AFP. Under the new law, the power to make decisions on adoptions shifts from judges to the national Institute of Children and Adolescents.

‘Russia running death squads in Caucasus’
The International News
September 7, 2009

MOSCOW: Russia’s security forces in its North Caucasus region are running “death squads” whose brutal tactics in combating an Islamist insurgency are fuelling a new civil war, leading rights groups said on Wednesday. “We can describe their method as ‘death squads’. We shouldn’t be afraid of using this term because they kill civilians and push the Caucasus toward war,” prominent activist Lev Ponomaryov, who heads the organisaton For Human Rights, told journalists in Moscow. “The recent events in the North Caucasus show that the policy of the Russian authorities is at a dead end.” Russian rights group Memorial, which tracks kidnappings in the turbulent Caucasus, called Wednesday’s press conference to raise alarm over the rise this year in such cases, which the group blames on federal security forces. “The death squads are an illegal method… Since 2000, Memorial has been tracking such methods: illegal prisons, torture and extra-judicial executions,” said Memorial’s Alexander Cherkasov.

Credit Rating Agencies Took "Bribes" for Higher Ratings
Washington's Blog
September 7, 2009

You may have heard how the big ratings agencies – Moody's, S&P and Fitch – "sold their soul" by rating toxic assets and mismanaged companies much more highly than they should have been rated. But as the following discussion shows, the ratings agencies effectively took bribes for higher ratings, just like people who knowingly authenticate forged art so that they will earn a higher fee: [Finance professor Ed] Kane: One has to remember that these are profit-making institutions. Issuers will would pay more money for a good rating than a bad one, and issuers are very clear what kind of ratings they want. This is a straight-forward way to pay bribes without ever violating the law, it appears, and the credit rating organizations do not take formal responsibility for their incompetence or negligence.

States: We can't afford costs tied to $5B emergency fund
USA Today
by Michael Grabell and Chris Flavelle, ProPublica
September 8, 2009

Many states are walking away from a $5 billion federal fund that some economists say is a swift and effective way to help people hurt by the recession and stimulate the economy. The states say they can't collect their share of the emergency fund for needy families because they can't afford to put up the 20% of costs required by the federal government. Six months after the money was made available under the $787 billion federal stimulus program, only 27 states have applied for funds, according to the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. Most have tapped only a small fraction of the money they're entitled to — less than 15% in most cases. As a result, as much as $1 billion could be left on the table when the program ends in September 2010, estimates Jack Tweedie of the National Conference of State Legislatures. The fund can be used to help states cope with growing welfare caseloads, create temporary jobs for the unemployed, pay rent for families facing eviction and immediately put cash in people's pockets

Domestic assaults by women increasing
Morning Sentinel
by Larry Grard
September 7, 2009

The reasons vary, but the statistics speak with one voice: More women are being arrested for domestic assaults. The latest data, supplied by the state Department of Public Safety, show that last year, police arrested 1,067 women for domestic assault. That's up nearly 300 from 2003, representing an 8 percent increase. Such arrests aren't commonplace, but a trend is there, police say. "When I started, you might see one a year," said Somerset County Sheriff Barry DeLong, who has 36 years in law enforcement. "I think police officers are more attuned to it. In the past, it wasn't even looked at. Domestic violence is for everybody now." Police have adjusted their training and responses accordingly. Ann Jordan, commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, said that today, police are trained to arrest "the predominant aggressor," and "dig into the facts" before making a charge. Jordan also noted the change in societal attitudes.

Meet the polyamorists – a growing band of people who believe than more lovers equals more love
by Colette Bernhardt
September 13, 2009

A minority group for those who find strength in numbers. A community for people who like their intimate lives communal. Polyamory – the practice of openly engaging in multiple loving relationships – acquired its name in the 1990s, and has been gaining ground as a recognised lifestyle and movement ever since. With the UK's first "poly" website just launched, and Polyday taking place in London later this month, it seems there's never been a better time for "ethical non-monogamists" to stand up and be counted. Let's clear up a few things first. This isn't polygamy, where one person (usually male) has numerous spouses who cannot pursue other liaisons themselves. Nor is it swinging or adultery; polyamorists aren't into cheating or one-night wife-swaps. It also differs from the hippie notion of "free love", which was primarily about enjoying sex. And it's a bit more specific than an "open relationship". What polys want – not so different from the rest of us – are ongoing, honest, committed relationships. But with several people at once. The internet has helped them hugely on this quest, allowing individuals who might otherwise never meet to form vast, wide-ranging networks and communities. Through forums, chatrooms and niche dating sites, they can share advice, discuss sexual politics and even find new partners.

29 killed, 81 injured in Iraq attacks
September 10, 2009

At least 29 people were killed and 81 injured in attacks that shook different parts of Iraq Thursday, security sources said. In northern Iraq, 25 people died 43 were injured in a truck bombing in eastern Mosul. The vehicle blew up early morning in Kurdish-dominated Wardak village, security sources said. Security forces defused a nearby second truck bomb before it could be detonated, the source added. The explosion damaged more than 12 houses. Located 400 km north of Baghdad, Mosul and its environs are the most ethnically and religiously diverse of Iraq's regions and have been the scene of numerous deadly attacks. Four people were killed and 30 injured in two subsequent blasts in southern Baghdad, a police source said.

Violence, accidents are killing world's youth: study
by Kate Kelland
September 10, 2009

LONDON (Reuters) – Road accidents, pregnancy and childbirth complications, suicide, violence, the AIDS virus and tuberculosis are the biggest killers of young people across the world, according to a study published Friday. Researchers supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) said their study — the first to look at global death rates in those aged 10 to 24 — exposed as myth adolescents' belief that they are stronger and fitter than other age groups. In reality, they said, 2.6 million young people are dying each year and most of those deaths are preventable. Some 97 percent of the deaths were in low- and middle-income countries. "Mortality rates in low-income and middle-income countries were almost four-fold higher than were those in high-income countries, a difference that was particularly pronounced for young women," the authors wrote on their study in The Lancet. According to the WHO, there are more young people in the world today than ever before — 1.8 billion 10 to 14 year-olds account for 30 percent of the world's population.

Assemblyman quits after scandal
by Wyatt Buchanan,Matthew Yi
September 10, 2009

An Orange County Republican resigned from the Assembly Wednesday after a videotape surfaced of the lawmaker bragging about his sexual exploits with two women, one of whom reportedly is a lobbyist. Assemblyman Mike Duvall, R-Yorba Linda, resigned soon after Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, D-Baldwin Vista (Los Angele County) stripped him of his committee assignments and ordered an Ethics Committee investigation of the two-term lawmaker. Duvall was recorded making lurid comments during an Appropriations Committee hearing in July when he apparently thought his microphone was turned off. The meetings are regularly recorded and archived by the Assembly. Shortly after his resignation, Duvall released a statement saying he was "deeply saddened" that his comments had become a distraction to other members of the Assembly. "I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office," said Duvall, a second-term Assemblyman who is married and has two children.

Growing spread of crazy ants in Texas is no laughing matter
Sep. 09, 2009
Star Telegram

Something crazy is spreading across Texas, and it may be so destructive that one day it will make Texans actually miss the hated fire ant. Crazy ants, so named because they move in all directions rather than in a straight line, first surfaced in Houston seven years ago and had previously been confirmed in 14 Southeast Texas counties as far north as Huntsville. But now the ants have been seen beyond the Houston area, with confirmed sightings in San Antonio and in Jim Hogg County in the Rio Grande Valley. This discovery is viewed as "a significant change" by researchers who have long feared that the ants would move to other parts of the state, said Rob Plowes, a research associate with the University of Texas at Austin Fire Ant Research Center who visited San Antonio last week. What concerns scientists is that crazy ants established a presence in San Antonio despite a prolonged drought. The colony was located near a strip shopping center, a hotel and a drainage canal, which provided enough moisture for the ants to survive.

Starving Sea Lions May Herald ‘El Nino’ Arrival in the Americas
By Sebastian Boyd

Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) — Sea lions are starving to death in unusual numbers along Chile’s northern coast, signaling the weather shift known as El Nino is taking hold in the Pacific. The El Nino effect, which is bringing warmer water to South American shores, seems to be driving away fish the mammals eat. Evidence of that is found in the autopsies of emaciated pups, said Walter Sielfeld, a professor of marine science at Arturo Prat University in Iquique, Chile, who examined the sea lions. The warming trend is deepening the woes of Chile’s $4 billion fishing industry, already ravaged by a salmon virus that has hurt exporters. In the last 30 years, El Ninos have sparked deadly floods and landslides from Ecuador to California, drought in Africa, wildfires in Australia, causing billions of dollars in damage, according to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. “We think it’s El Nino coming,” Sielfeld said, basing his analysis on autopsies that found sea-lion pups had empty bellies and no adipose tissue, the fat that insulates their bodies. “The sea lions are a good indicator” the weather phenomenon that occurs every few years is emerging again, the professor said in an interview. “There have been a huge number of deaths — it’s not normal.”

Landslide kills 2 sisters in Laguna; floods affect over 103,000 in Luzon

At least two people were killed even as 103,383 people in Central and Southern Luzon were affected in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in recent days, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said on Wednesday. In its 9 a.m. report, the NDCC said 21,969 families or 103,383 people were affected in Zambales, Bataan and Pampanga. The NDCC said the two fatalities – Nerissa Nievres, 3, and sister Nancy, 2 – died after a landslide hit their house at Sitio Camcaman in Real village in Calamba City, Laguna. Nerissa died on the spot while Nancy died on arrival at a nearby hospital. Their parents were safe. The weather bureau Pagasa said rains in the past days were a combined effect of the southwest monsoon, tropical storm “Labuyo" which exit late last week, tropical depression which was spotted west of northern Luzon on Wednesday, and low pressure area that developed east of Luzon also on Wednesday.

Kanlaon Volcano shows restiveness
By Carla Gomez
Inquirer Visayas

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental has shown a remarkable rise in its seismic activity for the last eight days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) revealed in a bulletin Thursday that it has recorded 257 volcanic earthquakes in Mt. Kanlaon from August 23 to September 1. The seismic activity was notably higher than the usual levels that generally vary from 0 to 4 events detected in 24 hours during quiet periods, Phivolcs said. One of these quakes occurred at 5:26 p.m. on August 23, and was felt at Intensity 2 in Barangay Ara-al, La Carlota City. Another tremor occurred at 10:27 p.m. on August 30 and was felt at Intensity 3 in La Castellana and Intensity 4 in the cities of La Carlota and Bago. Phivolcs said the epicenters of the quakes were all located at the northwest slope of the volcano.

Strong quake strikes off Java island
September 8, 2009

(CNN) — A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia's Java island late Monday, less than a week after a major temblor shook the island, killing at least 65 people. The preliminary magnitude for Monday's quake was 6.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center. It happened shortly after 11 p.m. local time (noon ET), and its epicenter was 265 kilometers, or 165 miles, south of Yogyakarta in central Java. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Last week more than 400 people were injured and 32 are still missing after a 7.0 magnitude quake triggered landslides and collapsed buildings across Java on Wednesday. That quake also caused buildings to sway in Jakarta — hundreds of miles away.

INDIA – Panic has gripped people in the northeast with four earthquakes rocking the region in the past three weeks, including a 5.9 magnitude tremor Friday, the BIGGEST IN THE PAST NINE YEARS. "Everyone is asking the same question, are we prepared to deal with a major disaster? We have not seen any urgency on the part of the government to activate its disaster management cells." An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale took place Monday, while another of 4.9 magnitude was experienced Aug 19, and a tremor of 5.6 intensity shook the region Aug 11. "A major earthquake in the region is due any time. We are saying this on the basis of studies, although earthquakes cannot be predicted as such." All the four tremors shook houses and other structures in Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura, besides being felt in Myanmar as well. "Obviously we are worried and there is a general sense of panic among people in the entire region." The seven northeastern states, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake prone belt in the world.

Hijack priest had vision of 'great danger, earthquake' – A Bolivian priest said he was acting on a divine revelation when he hijacked a Mexican plane mid-air with 104 people on board triggering a brief airport drama. He hijacked the Aeromexico plane after it left the popular tourist resort of Cancun on a flight to Mexico City. He told authorities after his arrest that he had "had a revelation that Mexico was facing a great danger and was threatened by an earthquake." All the people onboard the flight were safely evacuated at Mexico City.

INDONESIA – People living in Cilacap, Central Java, prefer to camp out in their backyards rather than sleep inside their homes, following two major earthquakes in the past week. They remain haunted by last week’s 7.3-magnitude quake, centered in the waters off Tasikmalaya, and Monday’s 6.8-magnitude tremor, located in the waters off Yogyakarta.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake that shook Tolitoli regency
, Central Sulawesi on Wednesday has left cracks in the regency’s airport. "There were cracks in a number of rooms including the departure waiting and VIP rooms and the rest room." A local public figure said he was worried that another earthquake could destroy the airport complex.

PHILIPPINES – Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental has shown a remarkable rise in its seismic activity for the last eight days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded 257 volcanic earthquakes in Mt. Kanlaon from August 23 to September 1. The seismic activity was notably higher than the usual levels that generally vary from 0 to 4 events detected in 24 hours during quiet periods. The epicenters of the quakes were all located at the northwest slope of the volcano. The occurrence of these earthquakes might indicate movements of an active local fault at the slope of the volcano, which might be induced by pressure beneath the volcano. However, the present volcanic activity did not indicate significant change in the steam emission from the crater, as its status was maintained at Alert Level 0. If the prevailing elevated level of seismic activity continues together with other monitored activities, Phivolcs said the alert level status of the volcano would be raised accordingly. Kanlaon volcano has a history of sudden steam-driven explosions without precursors.

COSTA RICA – Turrialba Volcano acting up. Scientists noticed some changes to the landscape at Turrialba volcano during three recent visits. Researchers who toured the area during the last two weeks of August reported that “yellow, straw-colored circles” covered approximately four square kilometers of trees. They said other plants appeared to have sustained wind damage. Investigators also discovered new crevices that are emitting plumes of steam and sulfur. The cracks had expanded up to 12 centimeters in width and gases rose up to 300 meters. “These observations are more intense than ones we have noticed before, but it's nothing extremely dangerous." The trees could have been yellowed by the vapor the new crevices are emitting or by this year's dry weather conditions.

NICARAGUA – San Cristobal volcano, quiet for three years, has let off a series of explosions, spewing gases and showering ash on nearby towns. Sunday’s blasts prompted officials to issue an alert for 25 districts near the volcano. The volcano is near the Honduran border.

INDONESIA – The Pagalaram city government in South Sumatra, is anticipating the possibility of natural disasters by preparing evacuation routes for residents if Mount Dempo erupts. “We have already set up a regional disaster board." Based on reports from mountain observers, the effect of an eruption at Mount Dempo could reach 9 kilometers away to the central, northern, and southern sides of Dempo. “So we are preparing safe zones that are 10 kilometers away."

PHILIPPINES – There has again been an increase in the activity of Mayon Volcano. Latest data said 6 volcanic quakes were recently recorded and the increased magnitude of the quakes is a cause for alarm. 750 metric tons of sulfur dioxide emissions were estimated from the volcano which was higher than the recent 200 metric tons. A visual inspection of the volcano’s crater could not be conducted however due to the continuous rains. In spite of the recent data however, Phivolcs said that it still sees no indication to increase the alert level hoisted on the volcano. The agency reiterated that Alert Level 2, raised since July, remains over the volcano. It also reminded the public to remain prepared for lahar flows especially after days of continuois rain.

INDONESIA – A tsunami hoax on Saturday led to the death of one person and injured three others in Pontang district, Banten. "A woman died of a heart attack after hearing the rumor. Three panicked residents were also wounded when docking their boats." The hoax has forced thousands of people to flee their homes. "I’m afraid to stay at home because I won’t survive a real tsunami there."

PHILIPPINES – Three people have been killed and three others have been reported missing in floods caused by continuous heavy rain in the Philippines. Tropical storm Dujuan, also known as Labuyo, is on its way out of the country towards southern Japan. Relief supplies are being distributed to families affected by the floods but local officials say their resources are running out, particularly in the southern region. Some 8,000 families have been affected by monsoon rains triggered by storm Dujuan. Heavy rains have caused flooding in at least five provinces in the central and southern Philippines.

Fred strengthened into a hurricane Tuesday night
— the second of the Atlantic season – with sustained winds of about 120 kilometers (75 miles) an hour. The eye of Fred was 715 kilometers west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands off Africa at 3 a.m. The hurricane was moving west-northwest at 19 kilometers per hour and is expected to turn to the northwest “within the next day or so". The storm may strengthen before weakening from tomorrow. According to the five-day forecast track Fred is unlikely to approach land.

The tropical storm in the East Sea became a storm the morning of September 10. This is the seventh typhoon in the East Sea so far this year, and it may affect northern Vietnamese provinces. By September 12, the storm’s eye is forecast to be off the western coast of China’s Hainan Island. Northern provinces will have to look out for downpours while mountainous provinces need to be careful about flash floods and landslides. At the same time, the tropical depression near the coast of the central region has weakened and disappeared. Downpours in this region have reduced remarkably compared to the last several days.

CALIFORNIA – The mountain inferno that exploded into the BIGGEST FIRE IN MODERN LOS ANGELES HISTORY foreshadows the long wildfire season ahead – one that could make the past two weeks look mild by comparison. Those concerns are fanned by nightmares of the greater devastation that the massive Station Fire might have wreaked had it been whipped by strong Santa Ana winds that typically fuel the region's worst blazes in the fall. The Santa Anas this year will be blowing over tinder-dry brush, made even more dangerous by years of drought. "The one thing behind this big (Station) fire … is the extreme drought that we've had for the last 10 years. "We've had a few good rainfall years for the last 10 years, but if you take the average drought index of the last 10 years, it's (WORSE) THAN ANYTHING WE'VE SEEN IN 150 YEARS. So we are in extreme drought, and the problem with an extreme drought is that you end up getting a lot of dieback in the native vegetation. So there's a lot of dead shrubs up in these landscapes." High up in the Angeles National Forest, at one point the Station Fire was spreading in five directions. "It's been going through my mind that it's not even the peak of fire season. If there had been winds, there's nothing you could have done. The firemen would have been helpless. It would have been really catastrophic." Meanwhile, the UNPRECEDENTED drought conditions have been blamed by some residents for the loss of at least 76 homes destroyed by the fire and the suddenness with which flames overran some areas. Federal authorities acknowledge that they failed to follow through on plans earlier this year to burn away most of the potential dangerous brush. "Every big single fire in the last century has been preceded by four years of drought." The Station Fire has cost at least $37 million to fight. The fire had destroyed 157,220 acres as of Sunday. Firefighters have it 49% contained. (great photo)

AUSTRALIA – Sea surface temperature data collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the US shows RECORD HEAT and wild weather is likely for Australia's east coast this summer, with average maximum temperatures soaring to 30 degrees and above in January and February. The forecast threatens to bring "perfect storm" conditions similar to those experienced during the Black Saturday bushfires with high temperature and high unpredictable winds. "We saw the El Nino years of 1997/8 and 2006/7 create these 'perfect storm' scenarios in relation to the devastating bushfires and I believe that is what we are facing again this summer." "El Nino is present across the equatorial Pacific Ocean, meaning sea surface temperatures (SST) will remain 0.5 to 1.5 above-average across much of the equatorial Pacific Ocean. Based on current observations and dynamical model forecasts, El Nino is expected to strengthen and last through northern hemisphere winter 2009-10." There is a strong possibility there will be no decent rainfall across eastern Australia between now and late next year. The lowest rainfall record, set in 1967, of 332.3mm, could be beaten this year. "Temperatures during August 2009 are between two and eight degrees above average across eastern Australia compared with August 2008 and long-term historical averages for spring and summer." The wind speed average during August 2008 was 45 knots an hour, but the wind averaged 65 knots an hour last month.

Northeast Passage – This year's opening marks the fourth time in five years that the Northeast Passage has opened. The last remaining ice blockage along the north coast of Russia melted in late August, allowing navigation from Europe to Alaska in ice-free waters. Two German ships recently are the FIRST COMMERCIAL VOYAGE EVER MADE THROUGH THE NE PASSAGE WITHOUT THE HELP OF ICEBREAKERS. The voyage was not possible last year, because Russia had not yet worked out a permitting process. With Arctic sea ice expected to continue to decline in the coming decades, shipping traffic through the Northeast Passage will likely become commonplace most summers. The Northeast Passage trims 4,500 miles off the 12,500-mile trip through the Suez Canal.

Climate change: melting ice will trigger wave of natural disasters. Scientists at a London conference this week will warn of earthquakes, avalanches and volcanic eruptions as the atmosphere heats up and geology is altered. Even Britain could face being struck by tsunamis. Reports by international groups of researchers will show that climate change will not only affect the atmosphere and the sea but will alter the geology of the Earth. Melting glaciers will set off avalanches, floods and mud flows in the Alps and other mountain ranges; torrential rainfall in the UK is likely to cause widespread erosion; while disappearing Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets threaten to let loose underwater landslides, triggering tsunamis that could even strike the seas around Britain. At the same time, the disappearance of ice caps will change the pressures acting on the Earth's crust and set off volcanic eruptions across the globe.

The British public has become more sceptical about climate change over the last five years, according to a survey. Twice as many people now agree that "claims that human activities are changing the climate are exaggerated". Four in 10 believe that many leading experts still question the evidence. One in five are "hard-line sceptics". "Many people are not "playing their part" in reducing humanity's impact on the environment. In general people are showing little willingness to change their lifestyles. They will recycle, unplug the TV and change their light bulbs; but they won't change how they travel or how they eat. These are the things that are going to make the biggest difference." Half of the people surveyed believed the media was too alarmist. And a third said there was too much conflicting evidence to know what is actually happening. Other surveys have shown that people in the UK are more sceptical than those in Europe, but less than those in the US.

WEST AFRICA – Flooding is affecting 350,000 people across West Africa, killing at least 32 in Ghana and Burkina Faso. More than 150,000 people in Burkina Faso have fled their homes, mainly in the capital Ouagadougou. The capital has seen THEIR HEAVIEST RAINS IN 90 YEARS. The amount of rain that fell in Ouagadougou on ONE DAY THIS WEEK WAS EQUAL TO A QUARTER OF THE WHOLE COUNTRY'S ANNUAL RAINFALL. The waters flooded 24,000 homes and the city's infrastructure – roads have been washed away and electricity has been cut off. The cost of flood damage has risen to $152m (£92m) and includes two destroyed dams and 12 damaged bridges. Neighbouring countries affected include Benin, Guinea, Niger and Senegal. In Senegal 30,000 homes were flooded while in Guinea 20,000 people are affected. The numbers killed are likely to rise. (photos & map)

SCOTLAND – Hundreds flee 'tidal waves' as month's rain falls in a day. Hundreds of homes were evacuated Friday after SOME OF THE WORST FLOODS IN LIVING MEMORY caused devastation from the Lothians to Moray. The North-east and communities in the Elgin area were hardest hit as RECORD SEPTEMBER RAINFALLS sent torrents of water sweeping through towns and villages. Normally gently flowing burns became swollen, raging rivers, destroying bridges and flooding homes, roads and rail lines, as they cascaded off sodden hills. The mass evacuation of homes in the Moray area began shorty after midnight. 2009 was the fourth wettest summer ever recorded in Scotland, according to new statistics. Last month was also the third wettest August ever. August had 197.1mm of rainfall – 83 per cent above the average. At the same time the temperature of 13.5C was slightly above average. However, the 133.9 hours of sunshine was 5 per cent below average.

SOUTH AMERICA – 'Incredible' devastation – A fierce storm killed at least 14 people in northern Argentina and southern Brazil. Dozens more were injured as rain, hail and winds of over 100km/h (60 mph) destroyed their homes. At least 10 people were killed and more than 50 hurt in Argentina. In Brazil four people died in the city of Guaraciaba, and there were unconfirmed reports of two more deaths in Sao Paulo. Extremely heavy rain caused traffic problems in Sao Paulo and cut off phone services in some neighbourhoods. The storm also damaged homes in Paraguay. Several local media reports described the storm as a tornado, but meteorologists called it a severe depression, where tropical warm air and frigid air collide to create instability. The temperature in the Paraguay capital of Asuncion fell from 35C to 12C. In Argentina, San Pedro's mayor described the devastation as "incredible". "This is SOMETHING WE'VE NEVER SEEN." In Paraguay there were reports that 700 rural properties, as well as crops, had been damaged.

TURKEY – Nine people were killed and two were missing as torrential rain triggered floods in northwestern Turkey. A family of five were swept away from a farm near the town of Saray, Tekirdag province, when heavy rain caused a river to burst its banks overnight and inundate a large area, causing significant material damage. Dozens of people were evacuated from their homes by military helicopters and small boats. Footage broadcast on television showed large parts of the Silivri shore inundated with flood waters gushing into the sea where cars were clearly visible among moored boats. Two other victims died in the Istanbul suburb of Catalca when they were swept away the gushing waters. The storm in Istanbul also caused a Cambodian-flagged bulk carrier to run aground near the suburb Kilyos on the Black Sea coast. The vessel later broke in two under the impact of massive waves.

TURKEY – Major floods that swept through Istanbul and the adjoining Tekirdag province killed at least 32 people with eight people still missing according to the latest figures.

NEBRASKA – This year’s summer weather — cooler and wetter than average — has many scratching their heads and asking “what’s the deal?” It’s early August and Wauneta still has not hit 100 degrees in 2009. Similar conditions have dominated statewide, making 2009 one of the “top 10” cool summers on record in Nebraska. Omaha was 4.5 degrees below normal for the month of July, SETTING A 100-YEAR RECORD, and Valentine set a RECORD-LOW for Aug. 1 at 44 degrees, beating the nearly 100-year-old previous record low of 45 degrees set in 1911. Moisture-wise, southwest Nebraska is above normal while the eastern part of the state is short. On July 30 the seven-month to-date moisture total for Wauneta hit 19.76 inches, exceeding the average annual total rainfall of 19.31 inches — with five months left to go in the year. For farmers whose corn, soybean and sunflower crops went in late due to wet spring conditions — or even worse, had to be replanted due to hail — they are hoping for heat units to catch up to normal as fall approaches. So what’s behind this unseasonable summer weather? According to the pros, warming ocean waters have translated into a cooler than normal summer for the northern Great Plains, Upper Midwest and eastern U.S. — as well as record-breaking drought and heat in the southwestern U.S. and the Pacific Northwest region. An El Niño that began building in late spring can be associated with this year’s wacky weather as jet stream patterns around the world are affected by this phenomenon. El Niño is the periodic warming of tropical Pacific waters that occurs on average every two to five years and typically lasts about 12 months. El Niño’s impacts depend on a variety of factors, such as intensity and extent of ocean warming, and the time of year. Its effects include weaker trade winds, increased rainfall over the central tropical Pacific, and decreased rainfall in Indonesia. These vast rainfall patterns in the tropics are responsible for many of El Niño’s effects on global weather patterns. In early July, scientists announced the arrival of 2009’s El Niño and expect it will continue developing during the next several months — with further strengthening possible — and lasting through winter 2009-10. Those living in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes Region, may see a surprisingly early end to summer. A high pressure trough located over the Hudson Bay could spell disaster for late planted corn and soybean crops growing in states like Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota as well as some areas of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, as a pool of cold air has moved in early and may strengthen, leading to an early frost. El Niños are often associated with early snowstorms and increased winter precipitation across the plains. As a bonus, this year’s El Niño may help to possibly reverse drought conditions that have been deepening across Texas and California. “The excess warming of the ocean provides more moisture to the atmosphere, making it more unstable."

A Solar-Cycle Climate Trigger – Most climatologists now agree that Earth is getting warmer – records suggest surface temperatures have climbed about 1.3°F (0.7°C during the last century). But there's less agreement on whether this rise has been triggered by an increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases, a change in the Sun's output, or both. Careful spacecraft measurements reveal that Sun's total energy output does fluctuate in step with its 11-year-long activity cycle, but it's a tiny blip: just 0.2 watt per square meter, compared to the solar "constant" of 1,366 W/m² reaching the top of Earth's atmosphere. Part of the problem has been trying to understand how a variation of just 0.01% could possibly affect our climate. Now a team of climate modelers believe they've found the key to how small solar variations can be amplified enough to alter our climate. First, the "top down" effect: When the Sun waxes during solar maximum, its ultraviolet output varies by as much as a few percent. This extra energy gets absorbed by the stratosphere, which warms up and creates more ozone. The warmer stratosphere, primarily over the tropics, alters the circulation lower down in the troposphere and, in particular, more rainfall at latitudes farther from the equator.
Second, the "bottom up" effect: When stronger sunlight passes through relatively cloud-free tropical regions, the ocean surface warms up. It's slight, only about 0.2°F, but enough to cause more water to evaporate. This extra moisture gets carried by trade winds poleward to the Intertropical Convergence Zones, where it rains like crazy. While you can see how the two effects might be linked, curiously no single atmospheric model had incorporated both of them — until now. The combined features of the two effects revealed how the tropical Pacific's response during solar maxima mimicked the actual climatic observations. "The Sun, the stratosphere, and the oceans are connected, in ways that can influence events such as winter rainfall in North America." The team will have to wait a while to see how their predictions pan out during coming solar maximum, and even then it's likely to be a weak peak. The Sun appears hopelessly stuck in its deep, lasting minimum. The Sun has been completely spotless for 22 weeks so far this year.

Life under threat as more ultraviolet radiation to hit earth – Rapid climate changes are set to redistribute the already shrinking ozone layer, exposing earth's southern parts up to 20 percent more ultraviolet radiation in the spring and summer at high altitudes, warns a Canadian study. Concentrated in the stratosphere from 10 km to 50 km above the earth, the ozone layer protects life on the planet by absorbing more than 90 percent of deadly ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. Ultraviolet rays cause genetic changes and trigger various cancers. Toronto researchers warn that rising temperatures will change the circulation of the earth's upper atmosphere, with a marked increase in the movement of ozone from the earth's upper to lower atmosphere. However, the distribution of the ozone layer will help the Northern Hemisphere of the earth. The model showed a nine percent decrease in ultraviolet radiation hitting Northern Hemisphere's high latitudes. Reported increase in the ground-level ozone on Europe's mountains and the west coasts of North America and Europe indicates that the deadly changes predicted by the two researchers may have already begun. Interestingly, ozone is created in the earth's outer atmosphere by ultraviolet rays themselves. On entering the stratosphere, these ultraviolet rays hit oxygen molecules, breaking them into two atoms. But being unstable, each of these two atoms clings back to the oxygen molecule, thus creating ozone molecules. Greenhouse gases (nitrous oxide and hydroxyl) and chlorofluorocarbons (generated by air-conditioners and refrigerators), which are capable of rising into the stratosphere, have been blamed for the depletion of the ozone layer.

IRELAND – 9/3/09 – Hundreds of people saw a fireball last week. A huge explosion was seen in the skies over the country on Thursday at about 2100 BST. It was most likely to have been a meteorite. The fireball was said to burn as bright as the full moon. "It would have landed somewhere in Ireland or possibly in the Irish Sea." Large pieces of space debris producing fireballs may be hitting 20 to 30 times a day in the atmosphere, but a lot of these happen during the daytime and are not visible and while others at night will be when a lot of people are in bed and so they are also unseen.

MICHIGAN – 9/2/09 – hundreds of people saw a meteorite shoot across the sky of Northern Michigan.

GUATEMALA – The Guatemalan President has declared a "state of public calamity" to try to mobilise funding to tackle severe food shortages in the country. Officials say 54,000 families living in an area prone to extreme weather are in a critical situation. So far this year, some 25 children are believed to have died of hunger. "There is food, what is lacking is the money for the affected people to buy food." The crisis has been caused by a combination of adverse weather, poor soil and the effects of the global economic downturn. The worst affected areas are in what is known as the "dry corridor" in the east of the country. Families there are suffering severe food shortages, after the failure of their crops of corn and beans. Authorities say a further 300,000 people in this region could also be heading for shortages of food this year.

At least 2000 students at Washington State University have reported symptoms of the H1N1 flu virus, in what appears to be one of the largest outbreaks of the virus on a college campus.

Britain scales back flu death projection – In July it predicted 65,000 fatalities in a worst-case-scenario, but now the National Health Service says fatalities could range between 3,000 and 19,000. Officials lowered the estimate because symptoms of the virus are mild for most patients. The NHS's chief medical officer said case numbers have not risen in Scotland, where school resumed 3 weeks ago.

Pathologic investigation of lung tissue from patients who have died of pandemic H1N1 infections resembles that in those dying from H5N1 avian influenza, said a scientist who has studied about 70 fatal cases. The level of lung damage makes it difficult to oxygenate patients. About a third of the patients had bacterial coinfections, and about 90% had underlying conditions such as obesity.

Flu activity is widespread and increasing in many tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia as well as South America. Though flu activity is past its seasonal peak in some parts of the southern hemisphere, parts of Australia and South America are seeing sustained circulation. Japan is experiencing an early start to its flu season. The global number of deaths is at least 2,837.

China's health minister called the country's pandemic flu situation "grim," due to a surge in cases and clusters in the wake of schools resuming. There are worries over a national holiday next month, which will prompt gatherings and travel, and the limited ability of China's flu vaccine company to supply enough pandemic H1N1 vaccine to meet demand. China has confirmed 5,592 cases, but has reported no deaths.

The Dutch health ministry says a delivery of 18 million doses of pandemic H1N1 vaccine from Novartis slated for the end of October will be late. Novartis attributed the delay to "disappointing production result." The country, now expecting 6 to 10 million doses from the company by the end of next month, expects 2 million more from GlaxoSmithKline. Novartis said it hopes to boost yield by using a new seed strain it received from the World Health Organization.

Flu fatal for Ecuador's security chief – Ecuador's presidential security chief died on Sep 6 from a pandemic H1N1 infection. He was first diagnosed with the novel flu strain on Aug 10. The virus has struck a host of other South American government officials over the past few weeks, including the presidents of Costa Rica and Colombia.

CDC says most won't need drugs for flu – Federal public health authorities on Tuesday urged physicians to prescribe antiviral medicines to high-risk patients promptly but reminded the public that most people won't need and shouldn't expect to get, the drugs if they come down with the flu. The guidance is aimed at getting optimal benefit from Tamiflu and Relenza while preventing overuse, hoarding and shortages of the drugs, as was seen briefly during the spring outbreak of swine flu. Specifically, authorities said, practitioners shouldn't wait for lab tests to confirm the presence of the novel strain of the H1N1 virus before starting antivirals in high-risk patients who show symptoms of flu. The drugs work best when started within 48 hours of illness. "The majority of adolescents and adults and most children won't need antiviral treatment and can be cared for with Mom's chicken soup at home." About 70 percent of people hospitalized with the new flu strain have had conditions such as pregnancy, diabetes or emphysema that put them at risk for serious complications.

Two girls given antiviral drugs in an effort to protect children at a summer camp from the new pandemic swine flu developed resistant virus. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has given new recommendations that flu drugs not be given to prevent infection among people who are otherwise healthy. Both girls recovered without becoming seriously ill, but the incident shows that it is easy for the new pandemic H1N1 virus to develop resistance to flu drugs. Two antiviral drugs work well against H1N1 swine flu — Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, and Relenza, known generically as zanamivir. There are two older flu drugs, amantadine and rimantadine, but seasonal influenza developed resistance against them and they are no longer recommended for use alone against influenza. Last year, the seasonal H1N1 flu virus — a different strain from H1N1 swine flu — developed resistance against Tamiflu in the United States and many other countries. Tamiflu and Relenza not only fight flu. They can prevent infection if given soon enough. And a doctor at a North Carolina summer camp decided to protect 600 campers and staff there with so-called prophylactic doses of Tamiflu. Two girls developed flu anyway. So far, globally, just a handful of cases have been documented in which H1N1 swine flu resists the effects of Tamiflu. But world health officials are watching carefully. [Two other resistant cases were noted in media reports today, one in Hong Kong and the other in Israel.]

Early start to flu season? – An overview of U.S. flu activity from April through August, notes that cases declined in July and early August but picked up in the Southeast in the last 2 weeks of August, reaching levels usually seen during winter peaks. This may signal an early start to the 2009-10 flu season.

The American College Health Association, in its surveillance report for the week ended Sep 4, reported 4,974 flu-like illness cases at 236 participating schools, a 105% increase from the week before. The report doesn't list the flu subtype, but federal officials have said the pandemic virus makes up 97% of circulating strains. Schools in the South had the most cases, but Washington and Kansas also reported big increases. About 96% of the new cases occurred in the 17- to 24-year-old age-group.

A World Health Organization official speaking to health ministers from 11 Southeast Asian nations urged the region to prepare for another wave of pandemic flu cases, as the northern hemisphere moves closer to its winter season. The WHO said that although the virus has yet to take a big toll in Asia, hospitals should prepare for a surge of severe cases.

-The Texas Coffee Company, Inc. of Beaumont, TX, is recalling its 3 ounce and 8 oz. packages of Texjoy red pepper because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
-Although no Ocean Mist Farms’ product has been identified, the company immediately began a precautionary, voluntary recall of 1,746 cases of iceless green onions. This decision follows confirmation from federal regulators of a positive test for salmonella on iceless green onions supplied by Circle Produce to several shippers.
-A laboratory test by the Georgia Department of Agriculture found Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of Kellogg’s Buttermilk Eggo Waffles manufactured at an Atlanta plant. This product was not shipped into the marketplace.

An emerging new form of malaria poses a deadly threat to humans. It had been thought the parasite Plasmodium knowlesi infected only monkeys. But it has recently been found to be widespread in humans in Malaysia, and the latest study confirms that it can kill if not treated quickly. Although the new form of the disease has so far been concentrated in South East Asia, the researchers warn that tourism to the region could soon see cases appearing in Western countries too. Malaria kills more than a million people each year.

Signs in False Shepherds & False Religion
"For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also." 2 Timothy 3:6-9

Jewish Agency pulls controversial 'Lost Jews' ads
By Dana Weiler-Polak , Haaretz Correspondent, and AP

Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky has yanked an anti-assimilation ad campaign that has outraged Jews abroad. The campaign was co-sponsored by the government. On Saturday, Sharansky ordered the offending newspaper ads pulled, as well as a video clip portraying young Jews who may marry non-Jews as lost or missing. The campaign was supposed to strengthen Diaspora Jews' ties to Israel but imploded in a storm of criticism from religious leaders, bloggers and editorial writers, who saw it as an affront to the children of mixed marriages. The Movement for Progressive Judaism and a leading Jewish Agency official demanded that Sharansky halt the campaign, which urged Israelis to report on Diaspora Jews involved in relationships with non-Jews.

Christian money guru gets rich mixing faith, funds

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — With the economy gasping for life last spring, about 1.3 million people gathered in 5,600 churches nationwide to behold the nation's leading prophet of personal finance. Televised live from a church in Edmond, Okla., Dave Ramsey's infomercial-style "Town Hall for Hope" was a masterful mix of inspiration, humor, advice, marketing and the Bible from a man dressed in jeans, dark jacket and an open-collar shirt. "Hope is a gift of the Holy Spirit," Ramsey told a nationwide audience that included the Fox Business Network, available in 50 million homes. Later: "The Bible says the diligent prosper." At its core, the 90-minute show was a millionaire preaching to a struggling flock, and it raised anew the question of whether Ramsey's hugely profitable, tax-paying business — which he describes as a ministry — fits with Jesus' teachings.

Anti-God Campaign Coming to the City
Messages coming to a bus near you
Sept 9, 2009

Agnostic attorney Clarence Darrow once said, "I don‘t believe in God, because I don’t believe in Mother Goose." Now those controversial words and others are being used in part of a new push to promote the thinking of atheists and agnostics. Dozens of new ads will target the people of San Francisco. The campaign is the brainchild of the Midwest-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, which represents some 14,000 nonbelievers across the country. The association has been working since 1978 to keep church and state separate. The ads are already popping up on city buses. The group ordered 75 exterior signs with messages like "Imagine No Religion" and Mark Twain's "Faith is believing what you know ain’t so." Both of those messages will be printed against a stained glass-looking backdrop. Several hundred additional signs will be placed inside buses with longer messages. Dan Barker, a foundation co-president, said the bus signs are a sign of the times.

Many Women Targeted by Faith Leaders, Survey Says
By Jacqueline L. Salmon
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 10, 2009

One in every 33 women who attend worship services regularly has been the target of sexual advances by a religious leader, a survey released Wednesday says. The study, by Baylor University researchers, found that the problem is so pervasive that it almost certainly involves a wide range of denominations, religious traditions and leaders. "It certainly is prevalent, and clearly the problem is more than simply a few charismatic leaders preying on vulnerable followers," said Diana Garland, dean of Baylor's School of Social Work, who co-authored the study. It found that more than two-thirds of the offenders were married to someone else at the time of the advance. Carolyn Waterstradt, 42, a graduate student who lives in the Midwest, said she was coerced into a sexual relationship with a married minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 18 months. He had been her pastor for a decade, she said, and told her the relationship was ordained by God. "I believed him because I was looking for direction and for help," said Waterstradt, who ended the relationship years ago and entered therapy. The pastor was removed from the clergy.

Fox News paints atheist groups as counter-religious
September 9, 2009

On August 3, Fox News aired a spot on “Non-Believer Communities,” looking at groups united around a common disbelief in a higher power. The segment begins simply enough, presenting atheists as they typically are: a loose affiliation of ideologically similar individuals from varying walks of life. One man characterizes his role in the community as largely social. His focus as an atheist lay not with the agenda of any overarching secular organization, but with the friendships he forms among his non-believing peers. Fox suggests that atheists, much like people of faith, gather to satisfy a human need for community. This is where the treatment breaks down. Immediately following an interview with an unnamed atheist, who speaks authoritatively about living a moral life without the trappings of religion, Fox shows footage of a supposed “de-baptism,” where men and women, dressed in mock religious attire, greet a congregation of non-believers with the phrase “good afternoon sinners.” In this way, Fox presents atheist communities not merely as non-religious, but as anti-religious, even suggesting that as atheists continue to grow in number, such counter-rituals will necessarily become more common, threatening to overturn traditions – such as weddings – long held sacred in American culture.

Faith under Fire
“Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”  Matthew 5:11-12

“You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endured to the end will be delivered.” Matthew 10:22

Church-bell 'noise' under attack – in America
Pastor convicted, lawsuit alleges others threatened
Sept 5, 2009

Three churches in Phoenix have brought a legal action against the city because one pastor already has been convicted and other churches are being threatened over the "noise" from their bells, some of which have rung out to the community for decades. The lawsuit has been filed by the Alliance Defense Fund on behalf of St. Mark Roman Catholic Parish, First Christian Church and Christ the King Liturgical Charismatic Church. The dispute focuses on the city ordinance that even city officials have conceded is vague, according to the lawsuit. Nevertheless, on the strength of neighbors' complaints and the existing statute, one pastor already has been convicted and sentenced for violating the city ordinance with church bells. The complaint alleges others now also are threatened. City officials said they could not comment because they had not been served with the complaint, which has been posted on the Internet. "Churches shouldn't be punished for exercising their faith publicly," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley. "The law is unconstitutionally vague and has been abused to silence a form of worship that has peacefully sounded through the streets of our nation since its founding.

Christians attacked by armed Muslim gang in Bangladesh
Sept 13, 2009

Dhaka, Sep.9 : Armed Muslim gangs in Solepur, located close to Dhaka, have been targeting Christians for several weeks, forcing many members of the community to flee the area. Forced land sales and motorcycle thefts are rampant in the area and despite the incidents being reported, the police has done little to prevent the targeting of the minority community . People are so frightened that they have now stopped talking about the criminal activities fearing retaliatory attacks. When asked about the attacks, Pavel John Gomes, a young Catholic resident of Solepur, said he did not want to talk about the 'persecution of Christians' because of possible retaliation. Gomes said an armed gang had forced several Christians to sell their lands to Muslims and some residents were even forced to leave their village.

Authorities in Laos Jail, Threaten to Kill Christians

LOS ANGELES, September 11 (CDN) — Authorities in Laos last week jailed a church leader in Savannakhet Province for embracing Christianity and threatened to expel him unless he renounces his faith – and kill him if his arrest is made public, according to a human rights organization. Officials from Liansai village, from Saybouthong sub-district and from Ad-Sapangthong district on Sept. 3 arrested Thao Oun, an elder at Boukham Church, at his home and forced him at gunpoint to the Saybounthong sub-district office, according to Human Rights Watch for Lao Religious Freedom (HRWLRF). The organization said the officials turned him over to the chief of police of Saybouthong sub-district, Thao Somphet, who detained, interrogated, and terrorized the Christian for nearly six hours. Oun was charged with bringing destruction to the Lao nation and government by embracing Christianity, which the officials consider a “foreign religion to be abhorred,” according to HRWLRF. The chief of police demanded that Oun immediately renounce Christianity or face expulsion from the village. He “further threatened Thao Oun that if word of his arrest and interrogation get out to the international community, he will be put to death,” according to HRWLRF. The organization decided to publicize the mistreatment, a spokesman told Compass, citing international exposure as the most effective way of preventing Lao officials from carrying out threats.

Mastermind of Church Bombing in Nepal Arrested

KATHMANDU, Nepal, September 10 (CDN) — Pastor John Vanlalhriata was reading the Bible at his home in Kathmandu valley Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) when a friend called to give him the news that electrified the Christian community. “Ram Prasad Mainali has been arrested by police along with three more accomplices,” the friend said. “Finally, our prayers have been answered.” The 36-year-old Mainali, who claims to have worked in the national army, became a household name in May after the little-known underground organization he headed, the Nepal Defense Army (NDA), claimed responsibility for placing a bomb in one of Nepal’s oldest churches during mass, killing two women and a schoolgirl and injuring more than a dozen people. Though police claimed a breakthrough in less than a fortnight, saying they had arrested a 27-year-old woman who planted the bomb in the prayer hall of the Catholic Assumption Church on May 23, the suspected mastermind remained elusive. Despite a red alert for Mainali’s arrest, he remained at large in the former Hindu kingdom, continuing to intimidate Christians by ordering them to leave the country or face further violence. He was arrested on Saturday (Sept. 5) in Biratnagar.

Christians in Pakistan Fear Further Firestorms

LAHORE, Pakistan, September 8 (CDN) — In the wake of Islamists setting fires that killed at least seven people in Punjab Province last month, the latest of several attempts to provoke further attacks on Christians took place in a village on Friday (Sept. 4) when unidentified men tore pages of the Quran and left them at a church. Police said they were able to cool tensions in Chak 8-11-L Mission Village, near Chichawatni, after the torn pages of the Muslim scriptures were left at the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church and on a nearby road. Sources said they have witnessed similar attempts to ignite attacks on Christians in several areas of Punjab Province since an Islamic mob on Aug. 1 burned seven Christians alive in Gojra over a false accusation of blaspheming the Quran. Superintendent of Police Ahmed Nawaz Cheema said the pages of the Quran were left at the dividing line between Chak 8’s Christian-inhabited Mission village and the Muslim-populated Maliks village, indicating “it was planted to create tensions between the two villages.” Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church Pastor Salmoon Ejaz told Compass that Muslim women on their way to glean cotton early in the morning had found the torn pages of the Quran. They took the pages to local Muslim clerics, who in turn took them to the police. Pastor Ejaz said the clerics came to Christian leaders and told them they had no suspicion that Christians had torn the pages, and that both Muslims and Christians should be vigilant and try to find the culprit.
