The Minister's Corner
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Prepare for Departure
Every story has a beginning, middle and an end. My story began not 39 years ago, but more aptly it truly began nearly 5 years ago when Father called me into Her and Christ’s service. Was I expecting it? I can’t say that I was. Sure, I’d always felt deep down inside that something important was coming my way but I’m sure a lot of people feel that. The dreamers of the world dream of worldly things…but this was to come from beyond this world.
A recent update of information on the Spiritual War that was given to the ministers of the Light of Life Ministry by the Cherubic Order of Holy Angels, which we shared with you in last week's edition. They were words that we’ve waited to hear for what feels like a long time and at the same time seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. As I write this I pray to Father Yahweh to guide thoughts in choosing the right words because it feels as if this might be the most important article I’ve written and will write from this side of Armageddon.
I’ve lived an ordinary life, but a blessed one. Sure, I’ve had my share of ups and downs, mistakes and disgraces, challenges and disappointments. I came into this world as an unwanted child and Father willing, will leave this world as a much wanted and loved Child of God. I began this journey thinking myself a good person as most of us do, and near the end of this journey realizing how faulty I truly am and how undeserving I am of the grace I am under and the salvation that has been offered me to take hold of.
To this day I do not know why Father chose me to serve Her and Christ Jesus in these End Times. None of us ministers do. But as for myself, Regina Adonna-Aaron, and Deborah-Moses, JohannaMoria-Angelinayaona, Jeshaiah, and Elisha Amana Yovanna, the joy of receiving the call that spoke so strongly and distinctly to our hearts has never ended and we’ve striven to do our best in sharing the good news, the warnings, and the truth. Father has guided our hearts throughout the months, the days, the hours and even the minutes during times of difficulties.
In this my journey of service to Father and Christ Jesus our Savior, I vowed to do my very best and to do all that I am humanly capable of in shedding the light of truth to the masses.
The truth as it stands right now, in this 10th month of the year 2009 is that time is very, very short. I want to assure you that when I tell you this, it’s not to frighten you because beyond Armageddon, in Christ’s Kingdom and even beyond that time into Eternity, there is so very much to look forward to. People hope and pray for peace on earth every day, but what they don’t realize is that it won’t come until Father’s plan for creation and expulsion of all evil from creation is completed. These things must happen, so that our prayers can be answered – it’s just that it has to happen in Father’s own timing and according to Her will.
The news we were given is this: Last week, the Lions of Zion offensive had begun in establishing a corridor that would act as the escape route from earth at the Rapture – in the same way that the dry sea bed of the Red Sea was the Israelite’s escape route from the Egyptians. Satan’s side was given a fair chance at halting the establishment of the corridor and ultimately avert the rapture but they failed. The corridor was secured and continues to be held by Father’s faithful Holy Angels that are assigned to this task.
The important thing to understand is that this is the prelude to the gathering of Father's flock to safe haven through the corridor to the waiting Rapture vessel. And for those Raptured, it will mean the death of their fleshly vessels to the rebirth in spirit vessels that will be almost instantaneous.
5 Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your descendants from the east,
and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north: Give [them] up!
and to the south:
Do not hold [them] back!
Bring My sons from far away,
and My daughters from the ends of the earth —
1 Corinthians 15:52 "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed."
We do not know when this will occur; only that it will be soon. The time table is in Father's mind and has not yet been made known as to when the gathering will begin. It could be at any moment, or it could be longer than anticipated.
Mark 13:33 Watch! Be alert! For you don't know when the time is [coming].
Matthew 24:36 [ No One Knows the Day or Hour ] "Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son —except the Father only.
I’m sharing this with you, dear readers and extended flock, so that you will be warned but also so that if you haven’t already, you might make preparations within your own self and in your heart and mind. I encourage you to share this truth with others if you should feel moved to, so that they might be informed and prepare as well.
Father is ready to take Her children home and remove Satan’s imprint from creation. Humans will come to realize they have never done anything in private, and that all has been watched and recorded. Each human must stand upon their own merit if they do not come under the Ransom Sacrifice. That Sacrifice is the only thing provided in creation that can blot out past sins.
For those that scoff, or who refuse to accept and believe, they will weep when they see the full truth staring themselves in their hearts. But for them, it will be too late, and that is where they gnash their teeth at knowing what is to befall them.
Psalm 112:10 "The wicked shall see it and be grieved, he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish."
In a world where the truth may seem for so many, so hard to find, I do not ask you to take my word for it but instead turn to Yahweh, who’s Holy Spirit reveals all things. Do not ask me to provide proof, because the proof is all around you and if your heart is open to receiving truth, then you will see and understand just as I have. Do not place your faith or your trust in me, but in our Heavenly Father, Yahweh, who saves. And lastly, no matter what happens, do not give up hope and do not abandon Father. Hang on and trust in Yahweh’s promise.
I Run To You
For my article this week I want to share a country song with you. The song is called “I Run to You” by Lady Antebellum. I am not sharing this song to promote Lady Antebellum but to share with you all why this song inspires me. When I am listening to this song I feel even closer to Father. I will share the lyrics but instead of using all her actual lyrics I have changed a word or omitted a few words here and there to share with you what I hear and what comes to mind for me while the song is playing.
I Run To You
I run from hate
I run from prejudice
I run from pessimists
But I run to late
I run my life
Or is it running me
Run from my past
I run to fast
Or too slow it seems
When lies become the truth
That’s when I run to You
This world keeps spinning faster
Into a new disaster so I run to You
I run to You
And when it all starts coming undone
Lord You’re the only one I run to
I run to You
I run on fumes
Like the sands of time
Slippin’ right on through
And Your love’s the only truth
That’s why I run to You
This song can be a type of encouragement and inspiration for people who aren’t sure what to do during difficult times. The way I hear this song basically encourages me to turn to Father during these last days to find comfort within Her because She is the ONLY truth. I will always run to Her.
Leviticus 19:17 “You must not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor directly, and you will not incur guilt because of him.
Deuteronomy 32:4 The Rock-His work is perfect; all His ways are entirely just. A faithful God, without prejudice, He is righteous and true.
1 Timothy 5:21 I solemnly charge you, before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing out of favoritism.
Of Continually Following Father's Path
There is a certain code of conduct that comes with walking in an upright way. The concept is simply in walking upright, standing strong, and doing so in Father's Will, guidance, and Light. As one would stand with their center of gravity above a balancing point in their legs, hips and feet, so it makes sense to stand balanced and centered towards Father. At the same time, the ability to do so does not come from oneself, but from Father.
Daniel 10:9-10 — I heard the words he said, and when I heard them I fell into a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.
Suddenly, a hand touched me and raised me to my hands and knees.
Daniel 10:18-19 — Then the one with human likeness touched me again and strengthened me. He said, "Don't be afraid, you who are treasured [by God]. Peace to you; be very strong!" As he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me."
It is an interesting concept to have treasure from Father. It is also important to take this treasure and invest it further to multiply Father's blessing, rather than to leave it and be wasteful. This helps to give a further concept of what Father expects from Her children, in that they will grow up and continue to grow, and not remain immature or act ignorantly. Where the physical can only reach to certain limits, such as a tree that has survived for thousands of years, Father's Spirit can explore deeper and up to Her own self, and even bring oneself closer to Her.
Proverbs 10:20 — The tongue of the righteous is pure silver; the heart of the wicked is of little value.
Proverbs 10:26 — Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so the slacker is to the one who sends him [on an errand].
Also Matthew 25:14-28.
Matthew 6:19-21 — Don't collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don't break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Psalm 119:11 — I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against You.
The last quote above is an interesting item, as well. In this, it is known that people are born with an inherent knowledge that they should not steal, that they should not murder. If a person takes only a little and actually utilizes it, like Christ had passed on in Matthew 13:31-32, there is potential to grow and multiply so much more. Also to consider in the previously mentioned scripture is the account of Jonah and what Father Yahweh taught him concerning a plant that was appointed to grow and provide shade for him, and then was killed by a worm.
Jonah 4:8 — As the sun was rising, God appointed a scorching east wind. The sun beat down on Jonah's head so that he almost fainted, and he wanted to die. He said, "It's better for me to die than to live."
In this, the good plants that can grow in one's heart can be a true treasure in Father's eyes, can be a paradise of pleasant climate and peace. There is also work that can be done, and should be done. It is not work that will decimate a person, but it is also fruitful and helps keep oneself strong, which is truly a gift and blessing from Father.
However, one's heart can also be a nightmarish wasteland that does no one good to trek through it.
Matthew 11:28-30 — "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Father's burden is light… Although it is known that even light particles have a mass, I cannot think of a time where I was not strong enough to move because light particles were holding me down. Moreover, maintaining Father's light in one's heart is truly a joy, and being given such a responsibility is such a blessing. In a strong way, Father places part of Her own self in one's heart to be taken care of.
Ecclesiastes 11:7 — Light is sweet, and it is pleasing for the eyes to see the sun.
And then combining the light's sweetness in parallel with other things that are sweet:
Psalm 119:103 — How sweet Your word is to my taste— [sweeter] than honey to my mouth.
Proverbs 24:13-14 — Eat honey, my son, for it is good,
and the honeycomb is sweet to your palate;
realize that wisdom is the same for you.
If you find it, you will have a future,
and your hope will never fade.
And then considering that hope can fade, it is as if hope can be a color, and in that, also have light.
If a person puts many of the pieces together from the above, they will see how there really are only two distinct ways of life, which is Father's, and then anything else, which only leaves a wasteland of thorns, traps, imbalanced wildlife, and much more that simply cannot be survived or allow life to be peaceful. The above also helps to describe what following Father's Way is really like, and how deceitful the world can be in obscuring the Truth. Unlike what may be said nowadays, that wickedness is what gave those in power their wealth, the Truth is still deep down inside, calling out to oneself and trying to share that which is of Father.
Proverbs 8:1-3 — Doesn't Wisdom call out?
Doesn't Understanding make her voice heard?
At the heights overlooking the road,
at the crossroads, she takes her stand.
Beside the gates at the entry to the city,
at the main entrance, she cries out:
Thus, if one allows the treasure that Father has provided to be buried by the things of this world:
Mark 4:19 — but the worries of this age, the seduction of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
It will be as if one took their talent and buried it, and what they thought they had will be taken away, but, as Christ also shared here:
Matthew 25:28-29 — 'So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. '
There is still much hope. One must not allow their hand to be taken by Satan and be pressed to further try to bury the treasure that is still had. In this, if one seeks further answers, they may find many parallels to their one answer, of which applies to all the facets of one's life. If any were told just the simple answer to a question, they actually may not find the answer that is actually sought, just as solving for the value of pi may only yield a certain amount of accuracy up to a certain point, of which that point can even still be extended. It is one thing to be given answers, but to be taught how to continually find them can be the beginning of great fruit bearing, even as one does not know what will grow, and what will not:
Ecclesiastes 11:6 — In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hand rest, because you don't know which will succeed, whether one or the other, or if both of them will be equally good.
Nourishment From The Throne
“For the LORD gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
Regina: When the corridor is secured, will it be surrounded in the same way as the Azmon barrier?
Cherubic Commander: It will be the same as the escape from the preflood era. The Ark was under attack from the outside forces. The same as when the Israelites were freed from Egypt. They were pursued. The same as when Lot and his family escaped from the wicked city of Sodom – hurriedly, because Father's own wrath against Her enemies could over reach even those to be salvaged. Satan will continue to fight the troops that hold the corridor open, but the present situation is to establish the corridor and then other LOZ members will execute the gathering of Father's flock to safehaven through the corridor to the waiting Rapture vessel. It will remain the responsibility of the corridor guard (LOZ assigned that task) to hold off Satan's troops and provide a secure opening out of the pit of coming destruction.
How long after the corridor is secured and continues to be held under a demonic siege will be a test on those assigned to hold the corridor open. The time table is in Father's mind and has not yet been made known as to when the gathering will begin. It could be shortly after the corridor is established and secured against breech, or longer than we anticipate. But no matter what, the LOZ must hold that opening until Father gives the order through Michael to have the Rapture vessel depart to Mount Zion with its precious cargo. After that, Michael will sound the attack for all LOZ members to take no prisoners and devastate Father's enemies. It will be the battle of the ages.
Soon, in the news, shortly after the corridor is secured against Satan's being able to breech it, there will be a sign in the lower heavens (the skies above,) in that people on this planet will witness a vision of the Rapture vessel. Because it will be a vision, Satan will not be able to strike it, because the actual vessel will be at the end of the corridor awaiting its passengers to board to safehaven. Understood? At that time, the countdown to leaving earth will be at hand for all that are to be salvaged.
Satan must be given every opportunity to try and thwart Father's Will. Before the loading, and during the docked time before it rises to leave for the promised safehaven. After departure, Satan's forces will be devastated. Satan will be forced to take refuge on earth and assume his role as the anti-christ. Father's plan will play out as mankind then reaps its full recompense for following Satan's lead. The Book of Revelation will be fulfilled to completion as all takes place just as Father foretold through the Word.
Keep in mind that you will be on the vessel for a time before it departs.
Regina: Just like Noah's family was on the Ark…
Cherubic Commander: Yes, and just as the waters forced the fallen angels back into the spirit realm into disgrace, this time they will be diminished for a thousand years in a death they cannot escape from until Father awakes them for the final test after the Millennium. The converts will also be executed, but they will not be brought back, instead they will suffer the judgment that those living on the earth will suffer – eternal damnation.
[Four Days Later]
Regina: I came across this while doing some study tonight – and it seemed to fit in with "the four winds" so I thought I'd share.
5 Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your descendants from the east,
and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north: Give [them] up!
and to the south: Do not hold [them] back!
Bring My sons from far away,
and My daughters from the ends of the earth —
[Three Days Later]
Cherubic Commander: Yes Regina, it does fit.
The LOZ has successfully established and secured the corridor that will be used to reach the vessel that will Rapture all of you away from this planet. Michael has ordered them to hold the corridor open until all of those to be salvaged from the earth are safely aboard.
In addition, all holy ghosts have been recalled to Mount Zion. The only spirits left on this planet are, converts, demons, and holy angels. By calling away the holy ghosts, Father is actually withdrawing the beneficial part of Her Spiritual Nature away from mankind. Now, the playing field is left with combatant angelic hosts from both sides of this war, and the converts that chose Satan's side, and of course, mankind. But, just as it was in Noah's day, when that previous ungodly world was full of violence and evil, there also remains a select few from mankind that will be spared what is just ahead. To be here now, is to in the den of vipers because they are being given free rule over the planet. Satan has gone over the edge since his defeat at the establishment of the corridor. His insanity is moving him towards a desire to destroy the earth, much like the dictator Hitler sought to destroy Germany when he realized he had lost the war. Of course, Father will not let Satan destroy Her planet. But Father will let Satan use his influence to destroy much of earth's inhabitants. By that, Father will let Satan make war with his own kind – the evil counterpart of humankind, and in that endeavor, Satan will try to influence one or more sides to all use their nuclear arsenal's against one another. To what extent this will play out is only foreknown by Father. She has her hook in Satan's jaw and is leading him down the path he chose over Her's just a little over 6,000 years ago. Now, if you reason out that much of the Word is sketchy on exactly what happens in between one fulfillment of prophecy to that of the next, then you will come to understand that it is all being worked out a step at a time until it reaches the desired conclusion.
All things have culminated to this point in time. The craft sightings are now so common they are seen almost daily. Why? The veil is being lifted for war. When the spirit world merges with the physical world, it creates an eye opening event. Humans will come to realize they have never done anything in private, and that all has been watched and recorded. Each human must stand upon their own merit if they do not come under the Ransom Sacrifice, That Sacrifice is the only thing provided in creation that can blot out past sins. It will even blot out some future sins in the coming Millennium, but it is a provisional washing away of sins intended for only those worthy of its undeserved kindness. It is so precious a gift from Father to mankind that it is a thorn of grief in the fallen angels sides, because they could never share in such a wonderful gift. But those humans that must stand on their own merit, they cannot save their own souls any more than Father's angelic opposing children She has disowned.
Father is ready to take Her children home and remove Satan’s imprint from creation. When he and his demons are awakened at a future time, they will see only Father’s imprint in all of creation. Try as hard as they might, they will only help weed out the final unfaithful, but will never again have his twisted outlook enslave and infect all in Father’s domain
Matthew 24:40 "Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left."
Matthew 24:41 "Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left."
Matthew 25:29 "For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him that hath not, shall be taken away even that which he hath."
Jeremiah 51:54-57 "A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans, because the LORD hath despoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice. When her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered, because the despoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken; every one of their bows is broken. For the LORD God of recompenses shall surely requite.
And I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her captains and her rulers and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake," saith the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts."
despoil >verb literary steal valuable possessions from.
-DERIVATIVES despoiler >noun despoliation >noun.
-ORIGIN Latin despoliare 'rob, plunder'.
Father will cause the false religious system of Christendom and its governmental empire to be robbed of all of its valuables and go down in dishonor as people grieve and beat themselves over heeding their lies. This is just part of the judgment that will play out against Satan's counterfeit-Christ. Those that scoffed at each of you, they will weep when they see the full truth staring themselves in their hearts. But for them, it will be to late, and that is where they gnash their teeth at knowing what is to befall them.
Psalm 112:10 "The wicked shall see it and be grieved, he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish."
Matthew 8:11-14 "And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
The holy ghosts return to Heaven, but the children of Christ's Kingdom that are salvaged are cast like fish in a boat to where? The outer darkness of space. When they're removed, what happens? "there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." because those on earth will realize that they truly were "the children of Christ's Kingdom." You'll only be in space for a short time, then on to Mount Zion.

More Lights Like Stephenville, Texas, in Maine
© 2009 by Linda Moulton Howe
“A man who is career military here is absolutely perplexed by the photos.” – Jonathan Spak, Fryeburg, Maine
October 12, 2009 Fryeburg, Maine – Jonathan Spak, 37-years-old, was born and raised in Washington, Connecticut. After high school, he attended the Culinary Institute of America and graduated with a degree in culinary arts. After apprenticeship with a French chef, he and his wife opened up their own restaurant and inn two years ago in Fryeburg, Maine, near the New Hampshire border. Last year on September 18, 2008, Jonathan, his wife and neighbors walked into town for dinner. A couple of months earlier in July, there had been a fire that completely leveled a building at a major intersection in town. The four were looking at the resulting opened view when all saw a bright, white light shine on and off in the night sky. “Then came a second and third white light shining on and off forming a triangle pattern in the sky. Very deliberate on and off, on and off, on and off in three points of a triangle,” Jonathan explained. A week later on September 25, 2008, Jonathan Spak was walking to his compost pile and saw five more bright, white lights flash on and off, but that time the pattern was a straight line. To his amazement, later that same night, he saw the on-off flashes of light form “another straight line of five dots." September 21 and 25, 2009 A year later on Monday, September 21, 2009, Jonathan was walking home when he saw the same colorful, large, twinkling light in the sky he remembered from the year before. He ran in the house, grabbed his Canon Rebel digital camera and tripod, set them up outside facing northwest toward the sparkling light, turned off both auto focus and flash. He quickly took a couple of photographs and then had to get back to his inn for work.
Namibia: 'UFO' Has Walvis Bay Buzzing
12 October 2009
A STRANGE red light in the sky at Walvis Bay had people all a-buzz and speculating about UFOs and missile launches last week. The strange phenomenon was apparently spotted at 18h30 on Wednesday. Witnesses' descriptions ranged from an object that "exploded with a loud thud" before "lighting the whole sky in red", to "something crashing into the sea, leaving a smoky trail behind it". The Namibian Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) sent a team to investigate the "crash site" northwest of Pelican Point, but found nothing. Grant Hull of NSRI said they had received calls that a plane had apparently crashed into the ocean near Walvis Bay. "We had to go and investigate. We were out there for about three hours but there was nothing," he told The Namibian.
Orb UFO moves over downtown Providence, Rhode Island
October 12, 2009
The UFO Traffic Report for Monday, October 12, 2009, includes 5 selected sightings over 5 states, according to witness statements filed in the past 72 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page. The following reports and their headlines are unedited and uninvestigated. RI, October 10, 2009 – Yellowish-gold glowing orb over downtown Prividence. MUFON Case # 19906. A Rhode Island witness working third shift noticed a slow moving light in the sky at 5 a.m. The witness could not make out a structure, but says it was just an "orb of light." Three photos were snapped from a cell phone.
Major UFO Event in Greece with Photographs

A strange fleet of glowing cloud-like UFOs were seen on Sunday by many tourists and locals on the Greek Isle of Hydra in the Aegean Sea. The alleged UFO fleet was observed silently floating across the sky until it disappeared from view. A number of tourists enjoying seaside lunch, conveniently with cameras in hand, managed to get photos (As seen below). Greek UFO enthusiasts are now debating whether these were indeed extraterrestrial spaceships, unusual cloud formations or some other natural phenomena.
Objects or Lens Flare Caught in Photo from Colorado?
Published: 2:47 PM 10/8/2009
Colorado – 09-14-09
I was taking a photograph of the nice sunset from my backyard. I noticed the three circular lights and said, "Mom, look at those beautiful three lights." I didn't relate it to being UFOs that evening. I said, "That represents the Holy Trinity or three angels." Mom answered, "No, those represent the three children you are going to have." At the time I was pregnant which weeks later resulted in a miscarriage." I didn't notice the perfect circular figure until tonight (10-08-09) when I zoomed in on the photo. THAT'S when I said, "OH WOW!"

FDIC announces 99th bank failure
by Hibah Yousuf
October 17, 2009
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The nation's tally of 2009 bank casualties hit 99 Friday night when state regulators closed San Joaquin Bank, based in Bakersfield, Calif. This was the tenth bank to fail in that state. Customers of San Joaquin Bank are protected, however. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which has insured bank deposits since the Great Depression, currently covers customer accounts up to $250,000. The Citizens Business Bank in Ontario, Calif. will assume all of San Joaquin Bank's $631 million deposits, according to the FDIC. Citizens also entered into a loss-share agreement with the FDIC on $683 million of San Joaquin Bank's $775 million in assets. The five branches of San Joaquin Bank will reopen on Monday as branches of Citizens Business Bank.
Pakistan launches Taliban assault
October 17, 2009
Fierce fighting has broken out as Pakistan's army launched an air and ground offensive against Taliban militants in the South Waziristan area. Officials said 30,000 troops, backed by artillery, had moved into the region where Pakistan Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud is based. Militants were reported to be offering stiff resistance as troops advanced from the north, east, and west. A curfew was imposed in the region before the offensive began. There have been several co-ordinated Taliban attacks in recent days, killing more than 150 people in cities across Pakistan. Pakistan's top army spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas confirmed that a fully-fledged assault had begun and said that an offensive could last up to two months. "The objective is to clear this terrorist organisation from the area, who has taken over the area, turned these state institutions, organisations out and has taken the entire population hostage," he told the BBC.
Drugmakers, Doctors Rake in Billions Battling H1N1 Flu
by Dalia Fahmy
October 14, 2009
Americans are still debating whether to roll up their sleeves for a swine flu shot, but companies have already figured it out: vaccines are good for business. Drug companies have sold $1.5 billion worth of swine flu shots, in addition to the $1 billion for seasonal flu they booked earlier this year. These inoculations are part of a much wider and rapidly growing $20 billion global vaccine market. "The vaccine market is booming," says Bruce Carlson, spokesperson at market research firm Kalorama, which publishes an annual survey of the vaccine industry. "It's an enormous growth area for pharmaceuticals at a time when other areas are not doing so well," he says, noting that the pipeline for more traditional blockbuster drugs such as Lipitor and Nexium has thinned. As always with pandemic flus, taxpayers are footing the $1.5 billion check for the 250 million swine flu vaccines that the government has ordered so far and will be distributing free to doctors, pharmacies and schools. In addition, Congress has set aside more than $10 billion this year to research flu viruses, monitor H1N1's progress and educate the public about prevention.
2012 forecast: Food riots, ghost malls, mob rule, terror
World Net Daily
by Bob Unruh
October 10, 2009
A trends forecaster says the current economic "rebound" from last winter's Wall Street collapse of banks, insurance companies and automobile manufacturers is an artificial blip created by 'phantom money printed out of thin air backed by nothing." And Gerald Celente of TrendsResearch.com, says people right now should be bracing for "the greatest recession" which will hit worldwide and will mark the "decline of empire America." Crop failures could be among the minor concerns. "Here we are in 2012. Food riots, tax protests, farmer rebellions, student revolts, squatter diggins, homeless uprisings, tent cities, ghost malls, general strikes, bossnappings, kidnappings, industrial saboteurs, gang warfare, mob rule, terror," he writes for a quarterly publication that is available through subscription on his website. The recent surge in Wall Street indexes back to near the 10,000 level, still far below the 14,000 prior to the crash, should be no reassurance for anyone, he said. "There's no recovery. This is merely a cover-up," he said. "The market crashed in March of 2009 and around the world they papered over the damage from the collapse with phantom money printed out of thin air backed by nothing," he said.
Dollar loses reserve status to yen & euro
New York Post
by Paul Tharp
October 13, 2009
Ben Bernanke's dollar crisis went into a wider mode yesterday as the greenback was shockingly upstaged by the euro and yen, both of which can lay claim to the world title as the currency favored by central banks as their reserve currency. Over the last three months, banks put 63 percent of their new cash into euros and yen — not the greenbacks — a nearly complete reversal of the dollar's onetime dominance for reserves, according to Barclays Capital. The dollar's share of new cash in the central banks was down to 37 percent — compared with two-thirds a decade ago. Currently, dollars account for about 62 percent of the currency reserve at central banks — the lowest on record, said the International Monetary Fund. Bernanke could go down in economic history as the man who killed the greenback on the operating table. After printing up trillions of new dollars and new bonds to stimulate the US economy, the Federal Reserve chief is now boxed into a corner battling two separate monsters that could devour the economy — ravenous inflation on one hand, and a perilous recession on the other. "He's in a crisis worse than the meltdown ever was," said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. "I fear that he could be the Fed chairman who brought down the whole thing."

After the bombing, drug addiction strikes Gaza
by Donald Macintyre
October 14, 2009
Abu Ahmed lived through last winter's Gaza war in a daze. Though the district where he lives was invaded by Israeli ground forces and came under heavy fire, including the use of white phosphorus shells, he felt little fear. For by then, the 45-year-old unemployed father of 10 was popping tablets of the painkiller Tramadol to feed an ever more dangerous habit."Of course you care about the children but [with the drugs] you forget about yourself," he explains. "You feel less frightened." Manufacturers warn the maximum daily dose of the synthetic opioid should be no more 300mg per day; Abu Ahmed was taking as much as 800mg – in the grip of an addiction which has rapidly spread throughout Gaza over the last two years. As the population struggles to cope with Israel closing their home to the outside world, the sometimes violent power struggles between Fatah and Hamas, and then the aftermath of Operation Cast Lead, the Tramadol pills – smuggled in through tunnels from Egypt – have provided a welcome escape from reality.
The girls living on just one meal a day: Teens risk health to copy stick-thin celebrities
by Laura Clark and Steve Doughty
October 13, 2009
Teenage girls are routinely missing two meals a day because they believe they need to lose weight, a major survey of children's lifestyles has revealed. Twenty-six per cent of 14 and 15-year-olds often don't eat breakfast, 22 per cent skip lunch and 10 per cent regularly go without either, the study found. A majority of teenage girls – and 40 per cent of ten and 11-year-olds – believed they needed to slim but few were actually overweight. The findings will fuel concerns that the prevalence of 'size zero' models and super-slim celebrities such as Victoria Beckham is fuelling girls' obsession with their weight. Experts warned that erratic meal patterns at such a young age could lead to girls developing eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia or compulsive eating as well as health problems associated with them as the body is deprived of nutrients.
Iraqis terrorised by child kidnaps
by Gabriel Gatehouse
October 16, 2009
As sectarian violence declines in Iraq and the security situation improves, Iraqis face a new threat to a peaceful life: violent crime. Baghdad has been hit by a spate of kidnappings, mostly targeting children. Police say that, while some gangs are motivated simply by money, they believe insurgent groups are increasingly using criminal activities to finance themselves, as the security forces cut off other lines of funding. Muntadar's tragedy The Mousauwi family is in mourning: women crying, dressed from head to toe in black; men – sitting on a row of chairs – hold their heads in their hands. On 30 September, 11-year-old Muntadar was snatched off the streets of Baghdad. The family never saw him alive again.
At least 40 dead after Pakistan suicide attack
by Omar Waraich and Andrew Buncombe
October 13, 2009
Taliban kidnappers who attacked Pakistan army's headquarters over the weekend were planning to hold senior army officers hostage until more than 100 militants were released from the country's jails, the military has claimed. The news came as militants launched yet another attack on a military target in the country's north-west, killing dozens of people in a crowded market with a suicide bombing that emphasised how Taliban insurgents have strengthened their hand by developing ties with sympathetic militants outside of their traditional strongholds. The strike on a military convoy near the Swat Valley, a suicide bombing, killed 41 people. The Taliban has already claimed responsibility. Officials said 35 civilians and six soldiers died when the bomber hit one of three military vehicles that were passing through a market in the Shangla district. Scores more were injured. "It appears to be a suicide attack. The bomber hit one of three military vehicles that were passing through the busiest market in the district," a senior police official, Khan Bahadur Khan, told Reuters.
Protesters demand US gay rights
October 11, 2009
Thousands of people have marched through Washington to demand greater civil rights for gay men and lesbians. The protest took place a day after President Barack Obama said he would move to end a ban on gay people serving openly in the military. The marchers in Washington also called for the speedy removal of legal restrictions on same-sex partnerships. Mr Obama has been accused by some in the gay community of being slow to act on gay rights. On Sunday, the protesters in Washington carried signs urging President Obama to make good on his promise to end the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy in the military. The policy allows gay people to serve in the military if they do not reveal their sexual orientation. "If somebody doesn't have equal rights, then none of us are free," activist Jason Yanowitz, 37, told the Associated Press.

Tony – Winchester, VA. – I have been to agencies in my area (EX:Salvation Army only helps with furniture in a diaster) and have not been able to find bunkbeds for a tiny room in our house. We have four children rejoining us from North Carolina soon. We have come close a couple of times on freecycle but you don't see them offered often. We are just managing to keep bills paid at present and there are no extra funds to purchase them. The other thing that is weighing on our minds is how we will transport them once they're here. We have a 30year old Toyota p/u that has a leak in the exhaust, a blown head gasket, a window we cannot roll up, old tires, no heat or A/C and no defrost. After next April (if it runs that long) we know we cannot renew the inspection. Pray for my wife Sherry to find a job and for my company not to fold. Signs in Natural Disasters
“You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” Matthew 24:6-7
US, other nations stop counting pandemic flu cases
By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer Mike Stobbe, Ap Medical Writer – Fri Oct 9, 4:48 pm ET
ATLANTA – U.S. health officials have lost track of how many illnesses and deaths have been caused by the first global flu epidemic in 40 years. And they did it on purpose. Government doctors stopped counting swine flu cases in July, when they estimated more than 1 million were infected in this country. The number of deaths has been sitting at more than 600 since early September. Health officials had previously counted lab-confirmed cases, though the tally was skewed because many people who got sick never were tested. Other nations have stopped relying on lab-confirmed cases, too, and health officials say the current monitoring system is adequate. But not having specific, accurate counts of swine flu means the government doesn't have a clear picture of how hard the infection is hitting some groups of people, said Andrew Pekosz, a flu expert at Johns Hopkins University. The novel H1N1 flu seems to be more dangerous for children, young adults, pregnant women and even the obese, according to studies based on small numbers of patients. And federal health officials are keeping track of children's deaths. But exactly how much more at risk kids and other groups are is hard to gauge if the overall numbers are fuzzy.
Toxic Hawaiian Volcano Poses Health Risks to Residents, Crops
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
By Anita Vogel
VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii — It's one of the most active volcanoes in the world, but now Kilauea — on the big island of Hawaii — is making headlines for something else. It's called vog, it's a mix of sulfur dioxide and other chemicals, which when combined with sunlight and dust, forms a thick soupy haze similar to smog. Although the volcano has been spitting out vog for more than two decades now, a new vent that opened near the summit in March of 2008 has made things, well — more "voggy." And it's giving some people a headache — literally and financially. In addition to causing health problems like itchy and watery eyes and noses, vog is harmful for the exotic plant industry. When the sulfur dioxide hits the moisture inside the beloved protea flower, it turns to sulfuric acid, and burns the plant to a crisp. It has become a major problem for residents who make their living growing these exotic Hawaiian flowers.
Mystery surrounds shaking homes in Newport
By Renee Tessman
October 11, 2009
A Twin Cities community has a mystery on its hands. Homes in a neighborhood in Newport regularly shake and no one knows why. The homes on 1st Avenue North, just north of 20th Street, look like they're on stable ground. But those who live inside are shaken up. Crystal Oswald says, "I've noticed it for a couple months now." She describes what happens. "You hear stuff shaking on your bed frames. You hear doors rattling in your kitchen, drawers shaking." Oswald says she and six neighbors feel tremors in their homes at dinner time and then overnight at 1:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. for no more than 5 minutes, pretty much on a daily basis. She says, "I had to put stoppers on my (kitchen cupboard) doors just because of the wood on wood rattling."
No smoke without fire as lightning strike creates massive forest blaze that is visible from space
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 1:25 AM on 15th October 2009
At first glance this looks like a peaceful lake scene with a swathe of cloud drifting over the Yellowstone National Park. But this picture actually shows a raging forest fire photographed from space. The blaze was started by a lightning strike near Yellowstone Lake on September 13, 2009. By the time it was detected 10 days later it covered around four acres of land. When it was photographed just one day later by astronauts on the International Space Station it had spread to 250 acres in size. Warm, dry and windy conditions in the area provided a favourable environment for growth of the fire. It was estimated to cover 9,300 acres by the start of this month. The image is highly oblique, or taken looking outwards at an angle, rather than straight down towards the Earth's surface.
Deccan floods hit major kharif crops hard
15 Oct 2009, 0036 hrs IST, ET Bureau
MUMBAI: The output of major kharif crops grown in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra could be affected or vulnerable to downside risks because of the recent floods in these states. The vulnerability ratio (the proportion of affected output to total production) is quite high in the case of chilli and tur (see table), with AP and Karnataka being particularly affected by the floods, observes a report released by agri futures bourse National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) on Wednesday. Maize, turmeric and groundnut are also high in the vulnerability zone, while sugarcane and bajra are relatively less affected. Khrif crops are usually grown between June and September with the commencement of the Southwest monsoon. Based on the FY06 and FY07 shares of flood-affected districts in production in the three states and on FY07 and FY08 shares of various states in total production, the proportions have been juxtaposed on the previous financial year’s total production numbers to gauge the level of output that would be affected (vulnerability ratio) by the floods. However, since the report has drawn on data of past production shares of states and districts within them, it admits that there could be margins of error in case these proportions change in either FY09 or FY10. For instance, in the shares of various states in total production, it is understood that there could be variations of up to 5-10% in the previous as well as the current financial year.

Weeks of earthquake activity in the Asia-Pacific region have triggered a shift in the view of some seismologists, who are now considering the possibility that the recent devastating cluster of quakes are related. Yet another earthquake was reported as having struck the Pacific Island nation of Tonga yesterday, one of several to hit the region in two weeks, including the deadly West Sumatra earthquake, the quake that just hours before triggered the Samoan tsunami, and Thursday's series of major tremors in Vanuatu. Although the earthquake that struck Tonga yesterday was moderate, no tsunami warning was issued. The latest tremor has challenged the initial views of some experts who believed it was highly unlikely that far-away earthquakes could be related. "You can't rule out completely the possibility of a connection, or that seismic waves could weaken faults even at large distances from the epicentre." Although it was still difficult to determine whether the earthquake cluster was anything more than "a remarkable coincidence", geologists will be looking at the events of the past fortnight with keen interest. "It's certainly QUITE UNUSUAL. I haven't seen it in my professional career. There has been NO SEQUENCE OF EARTHQUAKES OCCURRING IN SUCH RAPID SUCCESSION IN SUCH DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE." A veteran earthquake-watcher, who said more than a week ago that he was treating quakes thousands of kilometres apart as "coincidence", said yesterday that he was re-evaluating that hypothesis. "I can no longer keep using the response it's all a big coincidence, can I? But what would the (link) mechanism be? Nobody has come up with a good story." The fast-moving Australian tectonic plate might have set off one quake and then the other. "From the observations, there were similar correlations of the quakes in the different places. For two great earthquakes to occur within hours in such a way, it is ABNORMAL."
Malaysian fishermen netted a large number of fish after quake – Thursday, October 8th, the fishermen in northern Malaysia netted an UNUSUALLY LARGE number of fish from the sea, possibly due to the recent earthquake in Sumatra. It is a common phenomenon for marine fishes to seek shelter in safer waters after a natural disaster like an undersea earthquake. A fisherman in Bachok town in Kelantan state caught nearly 5,000 kg of “ikan duri” (marine catfish) within two hours out at sea. It was his biggest catch in his 15 years as a fisherman. “Normally, my catch is around 1,000 kg.”
PHILIPPINES – State volcanologists on Monday observed a nearly 350-ton increase in the sulfur dioxide emission rate of Mayon Volcano in Albay province in the Bicol region. The volcano emitted 853 tons of SO2 in the past 24 hours. Phivolcs recorded only 505 tons last October 10; 761 tons last October 8, and 350 tons last October 7. While the volcano’s steaming activity remained moderate and while the crater glow remained obscure, Phivolcs said that they detected seven volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours – bringing to 43 the number of volcanic earthquakes recorded from October 5 to 11. Mayon Volcano’s status, however, remained at Alert Level 2, which is characterized as "a state of unrest which could lead to more ash explosion or eventually to hazardous magmatic eruption."
MONTSERRAT – Scientists in Montserrat have given an explanation of recent activity at the Soufriere Hills Volcano which erupted on Sunday. The volcano sent ash spewing two miles into the atmosphere. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory said the recent activity is the result of a new lava dome growing near the volcano's summit. "This has started producing small flows of fragments of hot rocks and ash down the sides of the volcano on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, we had a switch in the direction of the activity … it's now moving to the north which is important because people live at the end of the valley which drains where these pyroclastic flows are traveling so, we need to keep a very close watch on what's going on even though it's not escalating. We're getting regular high levels of volcanic activity about 2 kilometres from the dome. People live about 6 kilometres away from the dome so, the pyroclastic flow would have to go a lot further for it to begin to be a problem and for us to start thinking about evacuating people."
TSUNAMI / FREAK WAVES / ABNORMAL TIDES / RISING SEA LEVELS –
PHILIPPINES – The high tide in Manila Bay on Monday worsened the flooding in three towns in Bulacan province on Tuesday. The affected and inaccessible towns were Calumpit, Hagonoy, and Pulilan. Passenger buses were barred from entering Hagonoy due to the flooding. In Calumpit, 21 out of the town’s 29 barangays (villages) are still submerged in flood waters, with 13 villages "flooded completely." The range of the height of the floods in affected villages are from one to eight feet. 14,000 families have been displaced and are staying in at least nine evacuation centers in the municipality.
SAMOA – The FBI has released video footage showing water rushing in and tossing cars and trucks in a parking lot after the deadly tsunami hit American Samoa last week. The video was taken on September 29 from an FBI office security camera in Pago Pago. The two-minute clip also shows three people walking in the parking lot shortly before the wave struck. The water hit the parking lot about 26 minutes after the 8.3-magnitude earthquake shook the South Pacific.
A 10-year-old New Zealand girl was honoured Wednesday for recognising the approach of Samoa's deadly tsunami and running up and down a beach warning other holidaymakers and local residents. The tsunami on September 29, triggered by a 8.0 magnitude earthquake, killed at least 143 people in Samoa, as well as 32 in American Samoa and nine in neighbouring Tonga. The girl was on the beach at the village of Lalomanu when she noticed the sea was retreating and ran up and down the bay, yelling that a tsunami was coming. She then managed to escape the deadly waves, although many others did not. "I remember looking under my arms and seeing all these trees just crushing and being crushed in the brown water, just swirling around and killing everything in sight." Her father and brother were among those caught in the waves but both survived uninjured.
TROPICAL STORMS –
PARMA – After devastating parts of the country for more than a week, tropical cyclone “Pepeng" (Parma) is finally out of Philippine territory.
A new wave of flooding, brought on by the second tropical storm to hit the Philippines within 10 days, has left thousands of people homeless and at least 18 villages underwater. Flooding in the provinces of Pangasinan and Benguet, about 120 miles from the capital Manila, began Oct. 8 after one dam collapsed and officials released water to save another dam from being breached as Parma, downgraded to a tropical depression, continued its onslaught of the island nation. The region underwater was already saturated after Typhoon Ketsana swept through the country Sept. 26, dumping more than a month's worth of rain in 12 hours. 60 percent of Pangasinan is flooded, and more than 1 million people forced to flee to higher ground. In addition to the displaced people, hundreds of people died in landslides caused by downpours from Parma as the storm lingered off the northeastern coast. "This is a new area (for flooding). This area was not an area we were too worried about until that last 24 hours."
Two tropical systems will continue kicking up wet, unsettled weather over the western Pacific today. Tropical depression "Pepeng" (international name Parma) will continue tracking westward, skirting just south of China and heading towards Vietnam. The system will scatter showers and thunderstorms over southern China. Dangerous surf conditions are expected to persist with wave heights up to 15 feet. Intensification is not expected.
Meanwhile, Tropical storm Nepartak, sitting just north of the Mariana Islands will take a more northeasterly turn. Landfall is not anticipated, but it will continue to kick up strong winds, heavy rains and dangerous surf with wave heights at 13 feet over the Pacific islands.
PHILIPPINES – A weather disturbance near Mindanao that has intensified into an active low-pressure area is threatening to turn into another tropical cyclone. The weather disturbance will be named “Ramil" should it develop into a cyclone, the 18th to enter Philippine territory this year. Earlier, Pagasa had said up to six more cyclones are due to enter Philippine territory before year-end. Cyclones “Ondoy" (Ketsana) and “Pepeng" (Parma) had devastated parts of the country since September 26, while “Quedan" (Melor) caused “Pepeng" to stay in northern Luzon for a week of rampage.
On Monday, the prices of vegetables in Manila were reported to have increased up to five times their normal rates due to Pepeng. As a result, the Department of Agriculture even announced it would get vegetables from lowland areas and send the same to Metro Manila. Baguio City was virtually isolated last weekend after rains and floods brought by Pepeng forced the closure of three major roads leading to it. Parma [Pepeng] left at least 311 people dead in the Philippines, where it made landfall three times. Forty-eight people remain missing in Luzon while 80,262 are in evacuation centers.
Tropical Storm Parma moved over the Gulf of Tonkin and headed for Vietnam after leaving three people dead on the southern Chinese island of Hainan. The storm was 298 kilometers (185 miles) east-southeast of Hanoi at 7 a.m. Vietnam time with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour. The storm is forecast to cross the Vietnamese coast south of Hanoi later today or early tomorrow. Authorities in Vietnam issued alerts for heavy rains and a tidal surge as high as 4 meters (13 feet). Local authorities were ordered to consider evacuating people in low-lying areas. Vietnam was hit by Typhoon Ketsana on Sept. 29, leaving 163 people dead and 11 missing.
Tropical storm Patricia formed in the Pacific and was churning toward Mexico's Baja Peninsula. The storm could lash the peninsula's southern end as early today and Mexican authorities have warned it could spark flooding and other damage. In September Hurricane Jimena struck the peninsula, leaving one person dead, and causing widespread flooding and property damage.
Tropical Storm Nepartak is now speeding in a northeasterly direction in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, where it is becoming extra-tropical and developing frontal qualities, which is a sign that the circulation will soon fade. Before it becomes a front, however, it is expected to continue transitioning into an extra-tropical storm, and dry air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere is helping that happen. Although Nepartak still had some strong convection, it is expected to wane soon with the transition into extra-tropical status. Nepartak is forecast to continue speeding northeast in the next day or two, when the transition should be complete and Nepartak will be no more.
A budding cyclone off Northern Samar is likely to spare the Philippines but may still threaten some parts of the Visayas with flash floods and landslides.
Tropical Storm Patricia unexpectedly weakened during the day and now has maximum sustained winds near 50 mph. As of 5:00 PM ET, Tuesday, the storm was 85 miles southeast of the southern tip of Baja California and heading northward toward Cabo San Lucas at about 7 miles per hour. Forecasters expected the storm to pass near or over the southern Baja Peninsula last night and today.
The tropics are eerily quiet for mid-October. With 49 days, or about 6 ½ weeks, left of hurricane season, there are only two tropical waves in the Atlantic Basin, both of which are producing limited thunderstorm activity and not expected to develop. However, October tropical systems are much more prone to originate in the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and southwestern Atlantic rather than over the central or eastern Atlantic Ocean. October and November storms are also more prone to develop on the tail end of stalling cold fronts. This makes Florida susceptible to a tropical cyclone strike. In fact, since 1851, more hurricanes have struck the South Florida mainland in October than any other month of the season. Storms of note in recent history to affect Florida in October include Hurricane Wilma in 2005, Hurricane Irene in 1999 and Hurricane Opal in 1995.
PHILIPPINES – While Filipinos are still reeling from the effects of tropical cyclones “Ondoy" (Ketsana) and “Pepeng" (Parma), state weather forecasters said a new cyclone may enter Philippine territory this weekend. The cyclone will be named “Ramil" once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility. The cyclone, code-named Tropical Storm 22W, was about 140 miles south-southwest of Guam as of 10 a.m. ChST (8 a.m. Manila time). The storm was making its closest approach to the Southern Marianas and is moving rapidly west at around 25 miles per hour (mph). “Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph. Tropical Storm 22W is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours." Based on monitoring data, the weather disturbance may intensify into a cyclone with winds of up to 205 kph. Ondoy and Pepeng jointly caused 711 deaths, while 89 remain missing. Damage to property from “Ondoy" and “Pepeng" amounted P19.906 billion, including P6.608 billion in infrastructure and P13.298 billion in agriculture.
Tropical Storm Parma weakened to a tropical depression after reaching Vietnam’s northern coastal region at about 4 p.m. local time Wednesday. The storm left more than 300 people dead in the Philippines and China. Parma’s center was on the coastal zones of the northern provinces of Thai Binh and Nam Dinh with winds at between 39 kilometers (24 miles) per hour and 49 kph. The storm, together with a cold spell moving from the country’s north caused strong winds and heavy rains in the Gulf of Tonkin and other parts of the northern coast. The tropical depression will move westward at a speed of about 10 kph then will weaken and fade off in the next two days. One person was injured, at least 18 boats sunk and roofs were blown off in the northern port city of Hai Phong. Almost 30,000 people along Vietnam’s northern coast had been evacuated. Parma’s center was forecast to be over Hanoi after 1 a.m. today. Vietnam is the world’s second-biggest producer of rice and coffee, though the country’s main production areas aren’t in the storm’s path.
HEAVY RAINS / FLOODING / LANDSLIDES / UNUSUAL & OUT-OF-SEASON WEATHER –
WASHINGTON – A day after being hit by a massive landslide, Naches residents recalled a slow-motion mass of grinding rock and dirt. "Like a glacier — rumbling and inching forward. A popping, grumbling sound," a resident said of the slide that lifted his house several feet and cracked his daughter's home next door. "This area has always been a little unstable but nothing like this." "We've been listening to it for about two weeks — cracks and little rocks sliding. It didn't just happen overnight." Sunday's landslide, more than a quarter-mile wide and up to 40 feet thick, buried a swath of State Route 410 and covered the Naches River, sending a new channel of water into about 25 homes. It pushed up the original riverbed about 40 feet in places, leaving rainbow trout dying on the high rocks. The slide destroyed two homes and damaged at least three others. Damage to roads, homes and property could range up to $20 million. The area was deemed stable on Monday, but officials warned that rain, the river's new route, and stress fractures in the adjacent sections of the hill could cause additional landslides in the future.
CALIFORNIA – Rainfall RECORDS FALL in epic storm. One-day rainfall records for the month were shattered Tuesday. Tens of thousands of people lost power, commutes lasted for hours, and car crashes numbered in the hundreds. "I've been doing this for 24 years, and this is the busiest I've seen it in one shift. It's just been one thing after another." The storm even unleashed havoc usually seen only after a long, wet winter has saturated the ground. In the Santa Cruz Mountains, where rainfall totals approached 10 inches, 80 homes were ordered evacuated on Eureka Canyon Road, midway between Gilroy and Santa Cruz, after mudslides trapped a man in his home. Officials also urged evacuations for 60 homes near where the Lockheed Fire burned the vegetation cover in August. If a storm the same size had come in midwinter, saturated ground could have broken loose into even more mudslides and sent rivers over their banks. Still, it was the WORST OCTOBER STORM THE BAY AREA HAS EXPERIENCED SINCE 1962. San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Livermore all set rainfall records for a single day in October. Nearly 4 inches fell in downtown Oakland, almost 20% OF WHAT THE CITY USUALLY GETS DURING AN ENTIRE YEAR. The downpour was fed by the remnants of the typhoon that originated off Japan last week.
ITALY – A bout of extraordinary bad weather, including winds of up to 90 kmh, hit Rome Monday bringing down in excess of 50 trees, causing inevitable chaos, traffic gridlock, killing a 21-year-old and injuring a total of five persons (one of whom in critical condition). The freak weather phenomenon, classified as a small tornado, is described by meteorologists as having ’struck ground’ just a few miles east of the capital’s ring road, in Via di Lunghezzina. With a high proportion of damage and casualties caused by falling trees, conservationists criticised the City’s parks services track record on tree maintenance. The Environment councillor was quick to point out that no amount of pruning could have secured Rome’s estimated 340,000 trees against collapse given the EXTRAORDINARY nature of the occurrence. PHILIPPINES – Selective evacuations were implemented in Albay province after boulders and mud rolled down from Mayon Volcano due to non-stop heavy rains brought on by a low pressure area spotted by the weather bureau near Eastern Samar. Heavy rains have been pouring over the province since Tuesday night. Boulders and lahar from the volcano have rolled down to Paddang and Camalig towns in Legaspi City and several areas in Darraga town. In 2006, rain-triggered mudslides swept hundreds of homes around the volcano, killing at least 300 people. The provincial civil defense office has dispatched 6 military trucks to Barangay Nagaso in Manito town to evacuate at least 3,500 campers due to fears of landslides and flashfloods. Bicol and provinces in Visayas will experience heavy rains for the next three days due to the LPA spotted 70 kilometers northeast of of Borongan, Eastern Samar. While there was “very little chance” of the LPA developing into a storm, it may still bring rains that may cause landslides and flashfloods.
ALABAMA – UNUSUALLY heavy rainfall is turning Alabama's typically driest months into a waterlogged autumn. Monday's rainfall — 2.76 inches at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport — was the latest downpour in what meteorologists say is ONE OF THE WETTEST FALL SEASONS IN YEARS. The rain BROKE A RECORD for the date set in 1982, when 1.32 inches of rain fell over Birmingham. The weather service estimates an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall this week. Barring a hurricane or other tropical storm, September and October are usually two of the driest months, but an UNUSUAL weather system is bringing levels of rainfall rarely seen this time of year. Cold fronts have lingered across the South because of a large high-pressure area that is usually on the East Coast. However, that high pressure is now positioned near Florida and prevents the cold fronts from moving on through the region. The cold fronts, combined with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, have led to an abundance of lingering storms and showers. "Normally the fronts bring some rain and then punch on through. Right now, they're not able to do that." Forecasters expect to see more UNUSUALLY high levels of rain over the next month or two. So far this year, the Birmingham area has received 57.46 inches of rain, about 14½ inches above the amount it typically would get. The precipitation already has exceeded the 54 inches Birmingham would get for the entire year. This month, the area has received 5.1 inches, almost 2 inches more than would be normal for the entire month. Alabama Power on Monday opened spillway gates at several dams to manage rising lake levels on the Coosa River caused by heavy rainfall. Unless a tropical storm brings heavy rainfall, spillway gates are typically not opened this time of year. "It's uncharacteristic. The picture is definitely different."
HEAVY SNOW / EXTREME COLD –
Unbelievable cold rules much of the US – A RECORD BREAKING COLD AIR MASS first afflicted Canada with unseasonable snows and frigid temperatures. As the air mass moved south, Idaho potatoes were threatened and snow blanketed large areas of the Rockies and upper Midwest. Minneapolis, Minnesota and other locations received their earliest recorded snowfalls. A chilling fact about the Minnesota snow was that the record was last set in 1977, the year of a mega-winter. Oddly enough some other parts of the globe are getting historic cold and snow as well; Austria, New Zealand, Japan. THIS IS A COLD OUTBREAK OF HISTORIC MAGNITUDE. What could be contributing to it? The Southern Oscillation Index has flipped to negative and recently has been moderately so. The North Atlantic Oscillation and its partner the Arctic Oscillation have both flipped negative and fairly strong in its direction. Finally there is the historic Solar Minimum which is playing a role in cooling down the earth. (maps, including map of temperature anomalies for the first 11 days of October)
U.S. – At least 32 cities across seven states SET NEW LOW TEMPERATURES this weekend while Central Florida continued to tie and break high temperature records.
MONTANA & WYOMING – A RECORD-BREAKING COLD SNAP has made this THE MOST FRIGID START IN MEMORY FOR OCTOBER. "This really has never that happened in the time that most people have been here, so IT'S REALLY REMARKABLE." In Billings, record lows were set three days – on Friday a low temperature of 18 degrees tied the record from 1993. Each consecutive low has been more frigid still, with Saturday bringing a record of 16 degrees; Sunday, 14 degrees; and Monday, 13 degrees. The record-breaking streak ended Tuesday morning, with a low of 25 degrees. The record cold for Oct. 13 is 20 degrees, set in 1969. Oct. 28 is the earliest date that temperatures of 16 or lower have hit Billings in the past. October's start is turning out to be the coldest ever, with an average daily temperature that is almost 6 degrees lower than previous benchmarks. Record-breaking cold has also swept through to the south, where thermometers in Sheridan, Wyoming, dove as low as 5 degrees on Friday, the first time that single-digit lows have been reached before Oct. 29.
IOWA – Sioux City was among Iowa cities that BROKE PREVIOUS COLD HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS Sunday.
CANADA – An uncharacteristic chill took hold of the province of British Columbia last weekend, bringing RECORD-BREAKING TEMPERATURES to the Okanagan. Penticton temperatures dipped down to a -8.3 C low on Saturday, becoming the coldest recorded Oct. 10 since the agency began keeping track in 1941. The former low-temperature record was -2.8 C, set in 1977. On Sunday, the temperature dropped further, hitting a low of -9 C and breaking that day’s record of -4.4 C set in 1990. Thanksgiving Monday was also a record setting day, with lows of -9.1 C breaking the -5.1 C record set in 2002. “I think the cold weather caught everybody by surprise." Because the lows were SO UNUSUAL for this time of year, army staff were concerned for those living outdoors. The record cold was caused by a flow of cold air from the North West Territories that stretched across most of the province.
SOUTH AFRICA – Heavy rainfalls on Sunday night and during Monday morning peak hour traffic caused flooding and disruptions in parts of the Western Cape, as unseasonal thunderstorms and temperature variations left residents wondering whether to reach for their winter or summer wardrobes. This peculiar weather is not entirely out-of-the-ordinary for this time of year. "The weather conditions are not normal, but also not really very unusual. By Thursday a cold front will move across the Cape Peninsula, but by the weekend it will be clear and windy."
EXTREME HEAT / WILDFIRES / DROUGHT / CLIMATE CHANGE-
FLORIDA – Relief from a RECORD THREE-DAY HEAT WAVE is on the horizon, with temperatures in the mid-70s — a good 20 degrees cooler than the recent scorchers. The heat has been so bad that on Saturday Ocala tied Death Valley, Calif., for the highest temperature — 94 degrees — in the United States. The extreme heat began with Friday's high of 95, followed by highs of 94 on both Saturday and Sunday — ALL RECORD BREAKERS in Ocala. It was so hot that Friday's temperature was still 85 degrees at 8 p.m., nearly an hour after dark. The normal highs range in the mid-80s this time of year. It's been decades since it has gotten so hot this time of year. Friday's 95 degrees surpassed the previous Oct. 9 record — 93 — set in 1962. Ocala tied Live Oak, Plant City and Statesboro, Ga. as the nation's hottest on Friday. And the weekend heat wave continued to break records. Back in 1959 — on Oct. 10 and 11 — the high temperature soared to 92 degrees each day. This past weekend, on those same dates, the high temperature hit 94. On Monday, the mercury neared a record high again, which would have been the fourth straight. To put the freak heat wave into perspective, Saturday's low temperature in the country was 11 below zero in Utica, Montana. The average mid-October high for Ocala is 84 degrees and the average low is about 61. But recently, those temperatures have been running 10 degrees above normal.
MYSTERY BOOMS / SKYQUAKES –
INDONESIA – 10/9/09 – An expert from the National Aeronautics and Space Agency said Thursday a blast that had frightened residents of Pallete village in the South Sulawesi regency of Bone earlier in the day might have come from falling space waste or a meteorite. Accounts of the explosion from local residents indicated it was likely a falling meteorite. "But it could also be falling space waste. We’re still investigating it." South Sulawesi Police said the blast was not from a crashed airplane. The Air Force’s Sukhoi jets and choppers carried out routine sorties in the morning, but not as far as Bone.
HEAVY RAINS / FLOODING / LANDSLIDES / UNUSUAL & OUT-OF-SEASON WEATHER –
WASHINGTON – A massive and growing landslide shoved a quarter-mile of State Route 410 into the Naches River, forcing the river to find a new course and causing some flooding in the sparsely populated valley on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range. No injuries were reported from the slide early Sunday about 10 miles west of Naches, but about 60 residents near the community of Nile were being evacuated because of flooding fears. One home was heavily damaged by the slide, and several others received water damage as the river sought a new course around the huge pile of dirt and rock. Aerial photographs showed large sections of road carried down to the river, which was completely blocked by the debris. The landslide was said to be about 30 to 40 feet deep over the highway.
MINNESOTA – Summer 2009 – A Twin Cities community has a mystery on its hands. Homes in a neighborhood in Newport regularly shake and no one knows why. Some of these residents have lived here for decades. The homes look like they're on stable ground. But those who live inside are shaken up. "I've noticed it for a couple months now. You hear stuff shaking on your bed frames. You hear doors rattling in your kitchen, drawers shaking." Seven neighbors feel tremors in their homes at dinner time and then overnight at 1:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. for no more than 5 minutes, pretty much on a daily basis. What's strange is that other folks, just a block away, feel nothing. Theirs has never been a quiet neighborhood. Within blocks there is an industrial area, and also a busy freeway and very busy train tracks. "We hear trains go by but it's not anything like that." This rattling is accompanied by a different noise. "Kind of a like a bold, beating noise in the house." Neighbors suspected construction on the bridge nearby. But no one works on it overnight. So could it be natural tremors? Not according to a geophysicist with the Minnesota Geological Survey. He says, "I kind of doubt that its a natural earthquake." There's been no recent seismic activity in the area. The homes are just blocks from the Mississippi River and caves under river bluffs can collapse, but vibrations from that, or even a sinkhole, would be short-lived. It has been suggested that perhaps a new industrial size furnace or trash compactor was recently installed at a local business. Newport Public Works has checked with local businesses, but no one knows what could be causing these homes to shake. It will continue to investigate. "It's just unexplainable right now."
Today, the sun is entering its 13th consecutive day without sunspots. Just a few years ago, such a stretch of blank suns would have been unthinkable. Now it's routine. So far this year, the sun has been spotless 79% of the time, TOPPING THE 73% MARK RECORDED IN 2008. Long after many forecasters thought solar minimum would be finished, the quiet is not only continuing, but actually deepening.
NETHERLANDS – 10/13/09 – A fireball as bright as the full Moon startled observers in the Netherlands when it raced across the evening twilight sky. Various observers report it breaking apart into as many as a half-dozen pieces, followed by sonic booms, low rumbles and shaking windows.
NEW MEXICO – 10/12/09 – Scientists think a fireball that flew over New Mexico may have been close enough to actually hit the ground. A Santa Fe astronomer was able to catch the fiery streak on video. The fireball didn't disintegrate when it hit the atmosphere. It may have landed somewhere near Taos. "If we can get other camera angles, than we can put all the positions together and possibly hunt for an important – scientifically important – meteorite." The event was also captured by cameras at Sandia National Labs. Scientists estimate the meteor was about the size of a basketball all the way up to that of a small car. Scientists at Sandia think it disintegrated over Chaco Canyon.
NAMIBIA – 10/7/09 – A strange red light in the sky at Walvis Bay had people all a-buzz and speculating about UFOs and missile launches last week. The strange phenomenon was apparently spotted at 18h30 on Wednesday. Witnesses' descriptions ranged from an object that "exploded with a loud thud" before "lighting the whole sky in red", to "something crashing into the sea, leaving a smoky trail behind it". The Namibian Sea Rescue Institute sent a team to investigate the "crash site" northwest of Pelican Point, but found nothing. They had received calls that a plane had apparently crashed into the ocean near Walvis Bay. "We had to go and investigate. We were out there for about three hours but there was nothing." Port control at NamPort also noticed the streak over Walvis Bay. The speculation about a missile launch was quashed by the Defence Permanent Secretary. "There was no such thing." Another possibility mentioned was that the phenomenon was caused by a meteorite crashing to earth. "I never saw anything like it in my life; it was just too weird," a witness said.
CANADA – 9/25/09 – a ton of tumbling space rock entered the atmosphere at 1,200 kilometres an hour over Southern Ontario. The friction whittled away perhaps 95 per cent of the object's original mass. Such events are not rare, but what is unusual is that the descent was captured by a network of video cameras installed at university campuses in the region. The resulting footage has already made the meteorite a phenomenon in the scientific community and for the masses who see it on YouTube. Some golf-ball-sized, maybe even football-sized, lumps of the material likely remain intact. But they are thought to be sprinkled through a 16-square-kilometre area around Grimsby.
GERMANY – 10/13/09 – A mysterious ball of light in the night sky which alarmed people across northern Germany was most likely caused by a falling meteorite. Witnesses spoke of a "burning ball," and a "glowing object in the sky" which "crumbled and fell to the ground," in phone calls to police and fire stations. Across the border in the Netherlands, sounds were reported which typically accompany large meteorites falling to earth, such as rumbling thunder and a sonic boom. "We have pictures of the fireball and the meteor cloud." The meteor may have fallen into the North Sea off the coast of Germany and the Netherlands.
HEALTH THREATS –
The fact that US and other countries' officials have stopped keeping close track of novel H1N1 cases and deaths means the government doesn't have a clear grasp of how hard the pandemic is affecting various groups. H1N1 appears to be more dangerous for children, young adults, pregnant women, and the obese, but just how dangerous is hard to discern because of this lack of comprehensive data.
Britain reported about 18,000 new pandemic H1N1 cases last week, up from 14,000 the previous week and 9,000 the week before that. However, flu spread is nowhere near the doubling that some had predicted. "We may be able to get the vaccine out there before our flu season really gets under way."
Most Canadians unconcerned about H1N1 – Only a third of Canadians plan to get vaccinated against novel H1N1 flu, and few seem concerned about the pandemic, a recent poll indicated. 36% of respondents were either very concerned or somewhat concerned about the virus, while nearly two thirds were not very or not at all concerned. In the same poll in late August, 45% had planned to get an H1N1 flu shot.
U.S. patients who became the most critically ill with swine flu, and those who died, were relatively healthy young women — not the elderly and chronically ill as many still believe. The findings challenge public apathy evident in recent national and state polls over the need for healthy adults to get vaccinated against the swine flu. Only 1 in 1,500 people has gotten seriously ill from the H1N1 virus. "But healthy people can be hit. Once they are, these people are spectacularly ill — it's hard to believe how ill these people are…Our data suggest that severe disease and mortality in the current outbreak is concentrated in relatively healthy adolescents and adults between the ages of 10 and 60 years." This trend hasn't been seen since the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. They can only speculate as to why women suffered more severely than men when they contracted swine flu.
Sweden began vaccinating health workers in the southern part of the country, with clinics slated to begin immunizing people as soon as they receive the vaccine. Authorities noted a lot of interest in the vaccine a month ago when a few fatalities were reported, but the demand for the vaccine has leveled since. Sweden becomes the fourth country to launch novel H1N1 vaccination, after China, Australia, and the United States.
UK fears its health workers will shun vaccine – The United Kingdom's Department of Health has ordered regional chiefs of the National Health Service to make sure doctors and nurses take the H1N1 vaccine amid fears that uptake will be only 10% to 20%. NHS executives say healthcare staff will shun the vaccine because the disease appears mild, but fear high absenteeism if unvaccinated staff contract the flu.
Psoriasis medications may pose H1N1 risk – Those who have psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis and are taking immunosuppressive drugs should get both seasonal and pandemic flu shots as soon as possible, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation. The foundation recommends that patients get vaccinated early, but not with the nasal-spray vaccine, which contains live, weakened virus. It also advocates general flu-avoiding hygienic steps.
Signs in False Shepherds & False Religion
"For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also." 2 Timothy 3:6-9
Egypt's Christians uphold tattoo tradition
Never mind the children's screams: For Cairo's Copts, tattoos are a mark of pride — and of protection.
October 14, 2009
MOKATTAM, Egypt – A baby’s wail echoed across the plaza. His mother’s face was etched with joy as she struggled to subdue her writhing infant. The children who had gathered around roared with delight. Church had just finished. It had been a long service. But for the children of the congregation, this was the highlight. And Girgis Gabriel Girgis, with his ancient (though he swears sanitary) tattoo machine, was more than happy to oblige. One after another, the customers came. Some were so young they had to be carried by their parents. Others, in their teens, were more willing participants in this Coptic tradition. Regardless the age of his human canvas, Girgis went to work — inscribing not fire-breathing dragons, fierce skulls or the gestures of star-crossed lovers, but rather simple blue-green crosses on the inside of his subjects’ wrists. The crosses are small, but they symbolize community in a country that Copts often view as hostile towards them.
Human sacrifice scientists discovered in India
Big News Network.com
Monday 12th October, 2009
Two senior scientists of India’s Defence Research and Development Establishment at Gwalior have been accused of attempting to use a junior colleague as a human sacrifice. Police have alleged a complaint was lodged by the wife of Sushil Kumar, a junior scientist at the DRDE. Shradha Sharma, approached police on Saturday night to accuse the senior scientists of being involved in witchcraft and attempting to make a human sacrifice of her husband. While the police have acted on the complaint, they have only charged the scientists over causing hurt, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement. According to the complaint, one of the scientists invited Sushil Kumar, who had not been unwell, to his residence on the DRDE campus to cure him. It is alleged that after entering the residence, the two scientists asked Sushil to go to sleep, before producing a sharp edged weapon. According to the wife’s testimony, Sushil managed to run from the house after fighting off the men.
'Messiah' moon turns over church to sons
Bel Fast Telegraph
Tuesday, 13 October 2009
Controversial Rev Sun Myung Moon, now approaching 90, is handing over day-to-day control of his Unification Church to three US-educated sons. There are some changes afoot in fund-raising and boosting membership, the sons say. But Moon – who will preside over another series of his trademark mass weddings tomorrow – remains in charge as the church's self-proclaimed "Messiah". But the sons are quietly assuming more responsibility in managing a church that has steadily expanded its business and charitable activities while trying to avoid the criticism that dogged it during the 1970s and 80s. The youngest, 30-year-old Rev Moon Hyung-jin, was tipped last year to take over as the church's religious leader. Moon Kook-jin, 39, is in charge of business ventures in South Korea, while 40-year-old Moon Hyun-jin oversees international operations. The church said all the brothers had Harvard degrees. Since founding the church in Seoul, South Korea, in 1954, the elder Moon has built a business empire with hundreds of ventures in more than a half-dozen countries, from hospitals and universities to newspapers and even a professional football team and ballet troupe.
O'Reilly vs. Atheist Author Richard Dawkins
Monday, October 12, 2009
This is a RUSH transcript from "The O'Reilly Factor," October 9, 2009. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated. Watch "The O'Reilly Factor" weeknights at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET! BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Personal Story" segment tonight, author Richard Dawkins is a committed atheist. His new book says evolution should be taught to every child and faith-based beliefs like intelligent design are hooey. His book is called "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution." I spoke with Mr. Dawkins a few days ago. O'REILLY: Now, when we last left you, Mr. Dawkins, you were selling your book "The God Delusion," big best-seller, based on atheism is good and those of us who believe are kind of sappy. Now, I want to show the audience the key part of that interview, and then we'll get to your new book. Roll the tape. O'REILLY: I'm throwing in with Jesus rather than be thrown in with you guys, because you guys can't tell me how it all got here. You guys don't know. RICHARD DAWKINS, AUTHOR, "THE GOD DELUSION": We're working on it. Physicists… O'REILLY: When you get it, then maybe I'll listen.
Oprah guru faces criminal charges?
2 dead, 19 hospitalized in 'spiritual cleansing'
October 13, 2009
A spiritual guru linked to a philosophy endorsed by Oprah Winfrey is facing possible criminal charges in the deaths of two and the hospitalization of 19 in a ritual "spiritual cleansing" at an Arizona resort. The victims were participating in a sauna-like "sweatbox" treatment while attending a program run by James Arthur Ray, who appeared in a DVD version of "The Secret," a New Age book authored by Rhonda Byrne that was heavily promoted by Winfrey. The dead were identified as James Shore of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kirby Brown of Westtown, N.Y. The dead were attending Ray's "Spiritual Warrior" program at the Angel Valley Resort near Sedona. The sweatbox is a dome structure covered with tarps and blankets, utilizing hot rocks and water to create steam. Angel Valley Resort advertises itself as "a place to relax and heal…where powerful earth energies are present and active." It was founded in April 2002 by Michael and Amayra Hamilton, both of whom are teachers and counselors there.

Pastor Who Helped Christian Convert Runaway Hopeful Despite Court Ruling
October 14, 2009
The Florida pastor who helped a 17-year old girl who fled from her home, fearing her Muslim parents would kill her for converting to Christianity, told MyFoxOrlando.com that he is hopeful the runaway will be able to stay in Florida even though a judge ruled she must return to Ohio. "We expected Ohio would get jurisdiction… that's just the legal way it is," Paster Blake Lorenz told MyFoxOrlando.com. "But we are excited there is still a possibility she could stay in Florida, if the legal documents are not presented with her immigration. So you never know…maybe they don't have them." Before the girl gets sent back, florida Judge Daniel Dawson said he needs immigration papers proving her status in the U.S. and proof from the state of Florida that she can continue her virtual schooling and receive credit in Ohio. Lorenz claims he and his wife have been operating under the belief that Bary's parents may not be able to produce the required documents.
Kindergartner fights for Jesus poster for 10 years
3rd appeal in decade-long battle over child's portrait of Christ
October 14, 2009
A former kindergarten student has been fighting a legal battle for 10 years after his teacher and principal censored his art project because it included a figure of Jesus. Tomorrow, a federal appeals court will revisit the case for a third time in a decade. According to the complaint, Antonio Peck's kindergarten teacher, Susan Weichert, instructed the class to create a poster with cutout pictures illustrating the children's understanding of the environment and asking them to show ways to take care of the earth. Peck, former student of Catherine McNamera Elementary School during the 1999-2000 school year, drew a picture with featuring religious figures and the words, "The only way to save the world." "Antonio was expressing his belief that God was the only way to save the environment," Liberty Counsel, the nonprofit law group representing the boy, wrote in a statement. But Peck's poster was rejected because of its religious content, according to the report. The young boy was forced to draw a second poster.
Principal to boy: Strip off 'insulting' pro-life shirt
Student wears 'Abortion is not health care' slogan to Obama school speech
October 12, 2009
A Christian middle-school student is suing his school district after a principal ordered him to remove a T-shirt bearing the message "Abortion is not health care" on the day of President Obama's speech to schoolchildren. Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed a lawsuit in federal court against the West Shore School District in Lewisberry, Pa., Oct. 5 on behalf of a male, Christian middle-school student identified as E.B. The boy's parents, identified as the Boyers, said they were concerned about the president's speech and the national health-care debate, including reported funding of abortion within proposed legislation. "[T]he Boyers, like many others, felt that President Obama was bypassing them and speaking directly to their children without their permission," the complaint states. "… Like many others, the Boyers struggled with whether they should send their children to school on that day. E.B. attended school and decided to voice his religious viewpoint as it relates to the issue of abortion."
Schoolgirl 'was tortured by her father' before she was murdered in honour killing
By Daily Mail Reporter
12th October 2009
A 15-year-old schoolgirl allegedly murdered for falling in love told her boyfriend that she had been 'tortured' by her father, a court heard today. Tulay Goren went missing in January 1999 and her body has never been found, jurors have been told. She is alleged to have been killed by her father Mehmet Goren, after he consulted with his brothers, over her relationship with Halil Unal. A week later Goren, 49, plunged an axe into Mr Unal's neck in a desperate bid to restore his family's honour, the court heard. Mr Unal, speaking from behind a screen, told the Old Bailey about a time when they met up at Stratford bus station in east London. He said: 'When I saw Tulay there I looked at her face and I saw that she had bruising to her eye. 'She told me that her father tortured her and beat her and that her uncle Cuma was pressuring her.
Suspects in attacks on Christians freed
Analyst confirms, 'The laws protect Islam'
October 17, 2009
A Pakistani judge has released six more of the suspects in a series of attacks on Christians in Gojra, Pakistan, and rights activists say the decision just adds to the victimization of the members of the religious minority. Sessions Court Judge Toba Sek Singh recently released the suspects, who are accused of the murders of 11 Christians and with burning down more than 40 Christian-owned houses in Gojra. The action follows last month’s order by a Lahore judge releasing 13other suspects in the case. Ahmad Amasa is an Israeli-born Arab who specializes in human rights law at Harvard Law School and he says these types of abuses are not unusual.
