My Hand in God's Hand
submitted by Johanna
Each morning when I wake, I say,
"I place my hand in God's today!"
I know He'll walk close by my side
my every wandering step to guide.
He leads me with the tenderest care
when paths are dark and I despair,
no need for me to understand
if I but hold fast to His Hand.
My hand in His! No surer way
to walk in safety through each day.
By His great bounty I am fed!
Warmed by His love, and comforted.
When at day's end I seek my rest
and realize how much I am blessed,
My thanks pour out to Him, and then
I place my hand in God's again.

When A Plan Comes Together
By Regina
Job 42:2 I know that You can do anything and no plan of Yours can be thwarted.
I’ve been blessed to witness to the incredible ways in which Yahweh works in watching a plan come together but I’ve never really put much thought into it until now. And when I do think about it, I see in my mind some scattered puzzle pieces and the hand of Yahweh moving each one in place so that in the end they all interconnect and form one complete picture.
When things happen and prayers are answered have you ever stopped to think about the many things that must happen in order for that to be the case?
Take into consideration the woman who prays for a miracle so that she will not be evicted from her home. Yahweh hears her prayer…and then what? Because the money she needs cannot simply float down from the nearest tree, others must be involved in the plan to answer her prayer. Other pieces of the puzzle must come together for the single purpose of answering her prayer; hearts must be motivated and actions taken, and love and genuine concern must be shown. Sometimes it could involve just one person, but other times many and each person plays their part as a puzzle piece fitting in seamlessly until the puzzle is complete, the prayer answered and glory given to our loving God who hears all prayers.
When a plan comes together
There’s a certain scent in the air
It’s as sweet as honeysuckle
And nothing can compare.
It is the smell of a prayer
Answered from above
It’s perfume all around
Answered out of love.
For love is in the giving
Not the receiving, you see
And that is what Yahweh does
Both for you, and for me.
So when a plan comes together
Know in your heart
It was a part of a greater one
Made from the start.
Give thanks and give praise
To our loving Yahweh
Who hears every prayer
And to whom we pray.

Communication With Father Doesn't End After A Prayer
submitted by Jeshaiah
Recently, I would come to the end of the prayer, meditating towards Father, and would almost ask permission to end the prayer, almost like asking permission to be dismissed. However, the words wouldn't come out from my heart, and I found myself simply unable to leave such a focus towards after a prayer. The attitude of prayerfulness that we have been taught in Father's Way means much more than being always ready and willing to pray to Father.
Psalm 138:2 — I will bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your name for Your constant love and faithfulness. You have exalted Your name and Your promise above everything else.
In this, oneself does not leave focus from Father, nor the connection in being with Father. Even the meditative mindset that may be had in pondering Father's Way may not be placed to a side for a time.
To further consider, Father is nature. Father uses nature to help express Herself, so when oneself pays attention to what nature is telling them, they hear what Father is saying, and hence, what Wisdom is crying out.
Proverbs 8:1 — [ Wisdom's Appeal ] Doesn't Wisdom call out? Doesn't Understanding make her voice heard?
These things can be treasured in the heart, bringing even the time spent with family to last, even beyond boundaries. In this, a part of Father and each other may reside within one's heart with love, such that a person does not travel or experience hardship or comfort alone. This might be exemplified in the letters shared by Paul about the joy he and his fellow workers received concerning those whom they had shared Father's Way with.
1 Corinthians 1:4 — [ Thanksgiving ] I always thank my God for you because of God's grace given to you in Christ Jesus,

Philippians 1:3 — [ Thanksgiving and Prayer ] I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you,

Colossians 1:3 — [ Thanksgiving ] We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
In reflection of what the early Christians had witnessed and endured to what is occurring now, we can see how difficult it can be to maintain the love and joy in afflictions. However, amongst all of these things, even after prayer, no one suffers alone. As Father's Rapture approaches, times will get tougher, and Mother will be right there, closer than arm's length.
Deuteronomy 30:14 — But the message is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may follow it.

Matthew 6:21 — For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

By Faith, Not Sight
by Deborah
Father, help me walk by faith and not by sight
lead me through the darkest night
For when the world comes close to me
there are some things I should not see
The road before me is full of danger
their arrows that fly are fueled by anger
Please take my hand when I may stumble
or when I fear that I might crumble
I give my life to you my LORD
I am not worthy of any reward
Please use me just as you see fit
like Moses before me, I will not quit.

Chosen – Book Two
We would like to announce the arrival of Book Two, the continuation of Chosen: End Times Truths Revealed.
Book Two starts where the first book left off and includes accounts from ministers Regina, Johanna, Deborah, Jeshaiah and Elisha, describing their individual journeys and experiences in their service to Yahweh and Christ over the past several years in autobiographical form.
It is available in .pdf form for free via
www.chosen.weebly.com and will be updated monthly.
The Journey Continues
Below is a sneak-peek of each of the books included in Chosen, Book Two

Regina
There are many days in which I feel as though I must stop and focus and just try to get through the next 24 hours, some days even just the next hour, and then that day passes and the next arrives and passes, and arrives until all of a sudden a year has passed, and then two and four and now five. It’s odd how time can seem to pass so slowly and quickly at the same time. Many of these days, the good and the not-so- good, I will recount here and many have receded to the deeper recesses of my mind but what I’m able to remember, I share with you here honestly and openly…

Johanna
On October 2nd or 3rd of 2005, I was on this website were there were camera’s placed through out peoples homes who claimed that they were being haunted. I have always liked supernatural things. I believed in ghost, angels and demons. I started talking to this woman and asked her how she see’s the things that she does. I also told her that I believed in spirit guides. She told me that she couldn’t help me with the guides but that she knew of a website where I could find some answers. She sent me the link to a forum by the name of “Beyond This World”. After looking at a few things and noticing that they had psychic exercises I decided to sign up to become a member…

Deborah
Word came to us toward the end of May 2010 that we were to begin documenting our experiences ending where Chosen left off. Each Minister is to produce a “book” of our own that will be incorporated into Chosen. Its a little daunting to say the least. I have not been journaling as Regina has been (it isn’t something I naturally do). Also, I actually do not have a very good memory. But I trust that those things that Father wishes us to recall we will. We have been guided by Michael to read the book of ACTS to guide us. It seems to focus on events that show times of strong guidance from/interactions with Holy Spirit…

Elisha
In 2006, I was able to reconnect with a long time friend. I found out she had co- authored a book. Considering how we had grown up together I was interested in the fact that she had written one and wanted to read it myself. She, Regina, sent me the book and some more details about it. I found out it was a lot to take in and did so in baby steps with much prayer and guidance from Father. I was blessed to freely ask any question of Regina and felt comfortable in doing so. I read the book with an open mind and while some of it confirmed my deepest suspicions other information provided was such an eye- opener…

Nourishment From The Throne
Regina:
Okay so, are any of you noticing that there are missing really major news stories in the news? Like these Russian Wildfires… I've barely seen anything on it and look at the Google Map showing where all the affected areas – it's nearly the whole country!
Map

Joe:
Children as the weather patterns change and droughts make the earth a tender box in many places, the prophecy to scorch the planet for a cleansing of its evil comes into play. Mankind's mishaps such as the nuclear plant melt down are added to the disastrous effects coming onto and plaguing the earth and its inhabitants. The earth must become a hellish nightmare in order for its inhabitants to know that the bowls of wrath are coming from our Mother Yahweh.
Ezekiel 20:47
"and say to the forest there: Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Lord GOD says: I am about to ignite a fire in you, and it will devour every green tree and every dry tree in you. The blazing flame will not be extinguished, and every face from the south to the north will be scorched by it." You need to look at the compass in the latest pics you have of crop circles. The compass moves in a complete circle of destruction. It is the scorching of this planet that has begun, The compass notes that it must move in a continuous circle like a cutter blade that destroy everything in its path, but with heat and fire.
Jeremiah 9:12
"Who is the man wise enough to understand this? Who has the LORD spoken to, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and scorched like a wilderness, so no one can pass through?" Because the evil cannot follow where you are all going.
Isaiah 9:19
"The land is scorched by the wrath of the LORD of Hosts, and the people are like fuel for the fire. No one has compassion on his brother."
Isaiah 43:2
'I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and [when you pass] through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire, and the flame will not burn you."

Spiritual War News

Joe – Do any of you know why Satan is coined as the Father of the lie? And not as the Father of sin? Even though the Word states at: 1 John 3:8 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
" The one who commits sin is of the Devil, for the Devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the Devil's works." The key to this statement is the "beginning." You have which BEGINNING? That of other species over the millions of past years that had their own beginnings, or the beginning of mankind? It is of course mankind's beginning. That is where the Word begins its story about this particular creation in its starting history. So the Devil whom is Dawn Lucifer, he committed sin at the beginning of mankind's beginning. You know Satan did not sin at his own beginning, because he was placed over this planet as its Prince governor. But even though earlier species broke law and were destroyed, they did not have an outside source that spawned them on. It's kind of like Satan saying the Azmon's started the battle. He must be having a recall of his own prolific disposition But those other species had no one else to blame, and they were like Satan, a direct creation that were taught the laws of our Mother from their beginnings in creation.
The Scripture also states that "The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the Devil's works." This tells you that before being revealed for his purpose, Michael was unknown to mankind. The reason is, because even though Michael is Father's Living Word or spokesman, he always spoke to Adam and other humans as though he was Father. This is because he represents Father in every way. And is why he said if you have seen me you have seen my Father.
Johanna – Since you mentioned battle I have a fast question for you Joe. For awhile I have been waking up feeling very weak and shaky. The past few weeks it has gotten much worse. My question is have I been fighting in battles? I have been dreaming a lot about fighting. I think the reason I am so weak and shaky is because I am using up a lot of energy in battles and when I come back to my body I am feeling depleted. I feel this is another reason why I feel so yucky and want to sleep tons.
Joe – Yes, you have been engaged in battles, Because much energy is expended in bursting energy through mamres and other weaponry, even bursts from your spirit body I'm not at all surprised you are feeling rather weak. Do you know why the holy angels use crafts to travel far distances in? For the same reason you are tired. They conserve their reserve energy by not using it to travel solo. The only class of angel that does not require any craft at all for travel to distant cities light years away, they are the Antijaboks. Father endowed them with a special ability as well as the largest reserve of energy known in the spirit realm to a single spirit. Instead of simply performing casts that is the norm for spirits, they are more of a shape shifter. If they travel long distances they become flat in shape and glide through the vacuum of space or the atmosphere of this planet with ease. They are responsible for making certain no germs or any other thing passes through the barrier of time. They are often seen exterminating germs that travel to the far reaches of the vast expanse of space. Germs are the fastest proliferating thing in existence. many able to survive in a vacuum. Antijaboks also shift shape and destroy large asteroids and other space debris that might otherwise pass through Father's barrier of time. Shorty, I will place a photo of that class of angel on here. They are the most dangerous fallen angel class that the holy angels sometimes go up against. The second most deadly is that of the Chebar that can burst itself into flames mixed with deadly energy emitted to opposing energies in a long showering effect and then recoup back to its original form. Somewhat like a Seraph's bursting ability, but much more volatile. The purpose for such a deadly package in a spirit's make up is they are also out in the vast expanse serving Father on the holy side, and they too intercept asteroids and other debris that might upset the delicate balance of Father's reality. All given specific jobs for an important role in Father's order of things. Those that went sour are the ones that cause much havoc in helping Satan's side.
Here's several Antihaboks in a cluster.
I'm not certain, but I think those Antijaboks might be under water verses the expanse of space. Probably some that have fallen from Father's throne to help Satan. Knowing Seraiah it would be like him to have photographed them while he was cloaked to send to Michael for the chess board layout of enemy positions.
It looks to me like they are under water on the right in that pic. Possibility a ship hull of an old wreck of some past time. They might even be some that were giving the Cherubs a hard time of protecting the Tree of Life since satan uses them for their special abilities. They still try to gain entry to the old garden area.
Regina – I dreamed last night that I was engaged in a war battle, only in my dream state mind it was earthly (I remember the solid green field uniforms of WWII, of which I'm most familiar since I used to reenact that time period) and it was very chaotic and much going on and all I can really remember now was that I was grazed by a bullet to my head that came from behind me. This was just before I awoke to see the "skittles" on my ceiling. So after reading what you posted to Johanna I was just considering whether in our dreams, memories of spirit realm battles might be different than they actually were – instead using what we're most familiar with rather than the reality of the spirit realm… Perhaps our minds are too feeble to take it all in and be able to balance it out so what we experience there is deep within the subconscious for now because of it – only allowing small glimpses here and there of the things that are part of our reality but not as well known as our physical reality.
I was also pondering some on what you shared with us regarding the life forms created before humankind. Scientists are now making discoveries on other planets, mainly Mars from what I've read as that seems to be their focus at present, that there were structures or running water and whatnot. The previous life forms on these planets, perhaps they left behind a mark so to speak, that tells us of what once existed but does not any longer? It certainly seems to fit in with what you've shared – though I'm not certain of it's accuracy – it was just a thought that came to mind. And, I can also understand why Father established boundaries and markers meant to prohibit humankind from reaching into the outer limits of space and attempting to colonize other planets. That would be like taking a hold of Her plan when it's not theirs to take and cannot be done according to Her Way.
More and more often I feel so small. As small as a literal speck of dust in comparison to Father's vastness and I think, how can She love me as She does when all I am is a speck of dust hardly worth noticing and more easily brushed aside than given a chance to rise above all my imperfections? And, when I think of all this and also that Father loves humankind as She does, it's an emotional thing to again think of it knowing of prior creations and that She cared enough to make a Way for us and to save us from destruction.
I see the ship you mentioned Joe. I also see what looks like rope? Wondering if maybe someone had been lassoed. Or if maybe it's a reference to the ship, as in anchor? Or now I"m wondering if maybe it's part of the Antijabock. I tried marking that in the 3rd pic below.
Joe – Ah yes, Mars was inhabited at one time many eons ago. Since you've made mention of it, if you'll research the Great Hall's records you'll discover some unusual things about it. Mars inhabitants knew of Orion's part in policing Father's domain and expected an attack from Father's forces, and also marked the stars in the constellation of Orion by creating a marker that exists to this day.. It's a fascinating account of the past civilization that was there at one time and how they came to be toppled by the Joint Command. .If mankind were permitted more time to fully explore just that single planet they would gain a fabulous collection of information and artifacts buried in the martian soil and caves that have laid dormant for centuries upon centuries. But yes Regina, Father says the earth belongs to man but the heavens are Hers. They were not intended to be looted.
Psalm 115:16
"The heavens are the LORD's, but the earth He has given to the human race."

Why does Father love a speck of dust like us Regina?
Psalm 103:11
"For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him." To fear Her male warrior side is to love Her feminine side Hand in hand they go together just as you and Jaddai are one as mates.

We have learned in the past that spirits cast everywhere. In this week's lesson we will be taking a look at how spirits can cast on an object such as a simple sheet of tinfoil. For the exercise, follow the instructions given and practice marking what you see with the assistance of your guides.
The method for doing so was shared with us by Joseph, who is a Holy Ghost. To begin, obtain a sheet of tinfoil and lay it in your lap, so that the tinfoil comes in contact with your energy. I even laid my hands lightly upon it and concentrated on sending my energy into the tinfoil. In the transfixed posture, you can watch as the tinfoil begins to take on a transparent quality and as it becomes the tool for passing over the request you have made to your guides. Give it time to bring the message fully across. Then, using a dark object as your background you can photograph it and begin to mark and decipher the message or messages that come across.

Regina: The Compass, the wildlife (particularly the sea life)… all seems to tell of the destruction that is happening and still to come. The picture I get in my mind is of the Compass being like the dial of a clock.
"The compass moves in a complete circle of destruction. It is the scorching of this planet that has begun, The compass notes that it must move in a continuous circle like a cutter blade that destroy everything in its path, but with heat and fire."
And if I go clockwise in reading the message, it would end with the fall of false religion which I feel is indicated by the Clergy lying down bottom left.
Joe: I think you are correct. And Liddia did an edged version and with it is the revelation of a very fierce battle being fought. I stared at the unmarked version for a time and began to see the battle in progress with many lying dead in the battlefield. I think it is a natural progression of what finally culminates from where the compass starts as it goes around to and through what you've already noted on the other things.

Crop Circle Watch
Trent Barrow, Nr Nether Compton, Dorset. Reported 5th August

The area is gorgeous and the formation is in between two small hills, in sort of a bowl. Easy to spot when you park the car on the way to visit the barrow. I didn’t find the barrow but some stones here and there, maybe the rest of the so called barrow. But there is this little pond as already shown in the previous pictures that I have taken also from above. The crop circle, not straight (see pictures) was directly pointing on the north of the pond, probably where the barrow was. (it engages only me)
The formation in itself seems to have been here since a couple of weeks or more (also only engaging myself on that point). Looks like very feminine from above. The mature wheat was crackling making a sort of permanent nice song and the details on the grounds were beautiful.
Olivier Morel
Mudford, nr Yeovil, Somerset. Reported 6th August

This chain of circles connected with a long avenue of various widths would generally be regarded as 'second rate' to the more impressive designs we have seen to date in 2010. However I was genuinely amazed by the fluid nature and the amount of details in its floor construction. This small town is an unlikely place for the phenomenon to appear. The actual event was hidden away on several acres of wheat fields just outside of the town itself.
You found yourself surrounded by tall hedgerows and beautifully formed tree lined fields. It was an incredibly peaceful place, and yet what was discovered on the ground was just astonishing!
From an aerial perspective, this line of circles wouldn't look all that impressive, as its uneven appearance would point towards an air of suspicion on its genuine nature. However on closer inspection each circle itself had a number of details, we haven't witnessed for sometime. Reminiscent of earlier times back in the nineties!
The middle circle (placed on the avenue) didn't actually have a swirled centre. The avenue leading into the circle carried on into the central point, and then merged with the circle making process around its perimeter.
The largest circle (positioned closest to the tree) also included an avenue, located under the main floor construction of the circle. Also (from the images) we can see lodging or wind damage which runs into the Circle itself, whether it was there before the circle was made is debatable? The question we have to ask is why anyone would want to create this event in a damaged field already? It was as if the Circle making process doesn't consider wind damage when choosing its canvas.
A pleasant surprise indeed at Mudford!
Stuart Dike
Pewsey White Horse, nr Pewsey, Wiltshire. Reported 8th August

The details for the circle discovered below the White Horse Pewsey are as follows. I was out testing my aircraft engine that was fixed last night and was found to be a little lacking in power when flown home. I got up very early this morning and flew as far as Clench Common airfield and back to give the engine a proper warm. The engine seemed fine today. Turning back from clench over Pewsey I saw a very large crop circle beneath the White Horse chalk marking. I flew over and took some photos and it seemed a complicated and very large design. Then I flew back through my regular route of the Barge Inn Honeystreet and saw another new circle next to the barge. There was also an apparent wind damage "circle" which looked very pronounced in the field next to the Barge Inn circle. I think it would be worth people checking that circle out.
Hope the info and photos are of use to you.

Spellow Hills Long barrow nr Langton, Spilsaby, Lincolnshire. Reported 8th August

Hi, thought I would let you know about a new formation in Lincolnshire Circle is located at Spellow Hills Long barrow near Langton by Spilsby Lincolnshire.
I have sent a rough diagram of the pattern after a brief walk into the formation, however my camera failed to operate within the formation, so no shots but worked perfectly well outside of the formation from the top of the embankment where the photos were
taken from. Overall the formation looks to be very neat and crisp would say its about 250 foot across.
I looked into the area and found that that Spellow Hills were originally 'Spellhou' – incorporating a word for hill, so now it's a bit of a double name. The barrow (looking as it does like several barrows) was known as the 'Hills of the Slain' and it was said 'bones and armour were found' inside 'many years ago'. The barrow was also regarded as a place where plague victims had been buried, or the dead soldiers from a mythical 'Battle of Partney' (Partney being a nearby village).

Signs in Natural Disasters
"You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places." Matthew 24:6-7

UPDATE: ECUADOR – A powerful 7.1 earthquake shook the South American nation of Ecuador this morning, but there were only scattered reports of damage or injury. The quake hit at 6:54 a.m. (1154 GMT) and was felt across much of the nation, including the capital, Quito. The quake was centered 110 miles (175 kilometers) southeast of Quito. But it was also very deep – 131 miles (211 kilometers) below the surface – a distance that might have blunted its damage. Some areas shook for almost 10 minutes. Several houses were reported damaged in the cities of Guayaquil and Manta, where one person suffered minor injuries.
MEXICO – New NASA airborne radar images of Southern California near the U.S.-Mexico border show Earth's surface is continuing to deform following the April 4 magnitude, 7.2 temblor and its many aftershocks that have rocked Mexico's state of Baja California and parts of the American Southwest.
The data reveal that some faults in the area west of Calexico, Calif., have continued to move at Earth's surface, most likely in the many aftershocks. This fault motion is likely to be what is known as "triggered slip," caused by changes in stress in Earth's crust from the main quake rupture. Ground motions on small faults have occurred since April 13, ranging from less than a centimeter to a few centimeters (half an inch to a few inches).
The April 4, 2010, El Mayor-Cucapah quake was centered 52 kilometers (32 miles) south-southeast of Calexico, Calif., in northern Baja California. The quake, the region's LARGEST IN NEARLY 120 YEARS, was also felt in southern California and parts of Nevada and Arizona. There have been thousands of aftershocks, extending from near the northern tip of the Gulf of California to a few miles northwest of the U.S. border. The area northwest of the main rupture, along the trend of California's Elsinore fault, has been especially active.
The largest fault movement occurred between May 21 and June 6 along a northeast-southwest trending fault known as the Yuha fault. This fault previously had slipped about 2 to 4 centimeters (1 to 2 inches) in the first days after the April 4th earthquake. Since April 13, the fault has slipped about another 2 centimeters (1 inch).
The fact that the Yuha fault has a trend towards the northeast is also significant, because it is very different from the northwest-trending major Elsinore and San Jacinto fault systems and the faults in Mexico that ruptured in the main earthquake. "This adds to evidence that the faults in Mexico are not directly connected to the Elsinore and San Jacinto faults and may explain why the magnitude 7.2 April 4 earthquake stopped before it reached California."
CHILE – Chilean authorities are working with seismologists in order to prepare for a possible earthquake that could strike the country "any day". A group of researchers studied the effects of the massive earthquake that jolted the nation in February, killing almost 500 people. They found that the quake raised the land by as much as 2.5m near the coast and shifted the coastline out to sea.
The 8.8-magnitude earthquake was "the fifth largest event in modern seismology". Seismologists had warned the Chilean authorities about a possible disaster which could happen at any given moment – but the state did not act.
"Scientists met with authorities in Talcahuano several months before the earthquake. And they warned them that there was a possibility of an earthquake and of a big tsunami." Models of the tsunami triggered by the earthquake show waves of up to one metre travelling across the Pacific Ocean. But the authorities didn't really take the scientists seriously."
The latest study showed that the predictions were correct, and February's disaster should be a "wake-up call" for the local authorities. They found an average slip of 10m – very similar to the forecasted data of 11.9m. "There was an earthquake in south-central Chile in 1835 and it was well documented…[with the data of] land level changes and a tsunami that followed. So that means that if we know that a region has not experienced an earthquake in 175 years, then we can say that there is about 11m of slip ready to be released. This way you can estimate the magnitude. And that's very important to know to prepare for it." Using the same method, scientists determined another area that was "ready" for a potentially devastating shaking – northern Chile, close to the border with Peru. "The region hasn't ruptured since 1877. We can estimate that it is ready for another magnitude 8 or 8.5 earthquake any day – it could happen tomorrow or it could happen in the years to come."
Three major earthquakes that occurred in the south Philippines on July 24 were due to the eruption of Kawio Barat, a big underwater volcano rising 10,000 feet from 18,000 feet of water between Indonesia and the south Philippines, said an expert, but his analysis was challenged by a local scientist.
Three major undersea earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.8 and 7.1 on the Richter scale, occurred in the Moro Gulf off Mindanao on July 24. The chief scientist for the US-Indonesia deep-sea expedition of Kawio Barat said in a press release that the major earthquakes off south Philippines last month were due to the eruption of Kawio Barat, which was recently found by scientists under the seabed of Sulawesi Islands in Indonesia. The quakes, tectonic in origin, had nothing to do with the eruption of a recently discovered undersea volcano, the associate professor at the University of the Philippines National Institute of Geological Sciences countered.
On June 30 this year, Okeanos Explorer, a vessel with remotely operated vehicle and sophisticated multi-beam sonar technology for mapping the seabed held a second dive for the Kawio Barat volcano. The vessel showed images of "sulphide chimney emitting hot water among a field of chimneys and barnacles as far as the eye could see". The Sulawesi Islands are 500 kilometres from Sarangani province in the south Philippines.
In 1976, a movement of the Cotabato Trench [in the south Philippines], resulted in an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude and a tsunami killing 8,000 people in Mindanao. The Cotabato trench is in the vicinity of Kawio Barat. In 1883, Krakatoa's eruption between Java and Sumatra resulted in a tsunami that killed 60,000 people in coastal areas.
VANUATU – A major 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Tuesday, generating a small tsunami of about 22cm and bringing down power lines. Officials had not received any reports of injuries or serious damage, but a police spokesman described the tremor as "a very sharp quake – the worst I have felt. Many people left the centre of town and went to higher places, fearing a tsunami. We're still experiencing sharp aftershocks and all communications were lost for a time, but things are coming back to normal now."
"It was quite a big jolt, quite a long rolling quake. It would have lasted … well, it certainly felt like it lasted … for the best part of a minute and there were aftershocks. Fixtures on the walls came down, books and magazines and files came off the shelves, computers were tossed off their tables. It was very intense. Tiles were falling down and furniture falling over and bookshelves coming down." There have been no reports of any significant injury. There were one or two reports of minor bumps and scrapes and no reports of major damage.
Haiti quake reveals previously unknown fault – The devastating quake that slammed Haiti on January 12 occurred on a previously unrecognized fault zone, report scientists who are still trying to determine the implications for the region’s long-term seismic risk. The newly discovered fault hasn’t been officially named yet but is informally known as the Léogane fault, after one of the Haitian cities that sits directly atop it.
Just after the magnitude-7 temblor struck, scientists presumed that the epicenter of the quake was located on the well-known Enriquillo faul. But data collected after the quake didn’t jibe with the notion of an Enriquillo-spawned quake.. For one thing, the edges of that fault are vertical and the two sides slide past each other horizontally, but comparisons of space-based images taken before and after the quake revealed that the area north of the fault had been forced substantially upward, as well as southward, during the event. During a post-quake field survey along the coastline west of Port-au-Prince, scientists also found that formerly submerged corals died when the quake lifted them above the tides by as much as 60 centimeters. Altogether, these data point to a different culprit and suggest that this previously unknown fault is about 30 kilometers long. Unlike the Enriquillo fault, which extends vertically into the ground, the newly discovered fault dips steeply northward into the earth at an angle of about 60 degrees.
“This is part of a whole system of faults that we hadn’t recognized before." During the January quake, deep parts of the Léogane fault slipped past each other as much as 5 meters. Despite the significant slippage that occurred at depths between 5 and 20 kilometers, there was – UNUSUALLY – no rupture of the ground at Earth’s surface.
VOLCANOES
INDONESIA – One of Indonesia's most active volcanoes erupted Friday, sending lava and a searing gas cloud tumbling down its slopes. At least four people were swept away and feared dead and several others were seriously injured. "It happened so fast. There was no time for an evacuation."
Mount Karangetang, located on Siau, part of the Sulawesi island chain, burst just after midnight when heavy rains broke the volcano's hot lava dome, which spit out 1,110-degree Fahrenheit clouds of gas. Ash and lava crashed down the mountain's western slope, destroying at least nine houses, a church and a school. A road and a bridge also were badly damaged, leaving more than 2,000 people in the remote area completely isolated. Authorities were trying to evacuate residents living in at least one nearby village. In all, about 22,000 people live on Siau island.
The last time the mountain erupted was July 2006.
TROPICAL STORMS –
Tropical depression 05W was 257 nmi SE of Taipei, Taiwan.
Tropical storm COLIN was 161 nmi SSW of Hamilton, Bermuda.
Tropical storm ESTELLE was 310 nmi SW of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Tropical Storm Estelle forms in Pacific off Mexico's coast, not forecast to threaten land.
Tropical Storm Colin will affect the island of Bermuda in the western Atlantic Ocean. However, this tropical storm will NOT hit the US coast.
There have been hundreds of ocean rescues on rip filled beaches in North Carolina. For Wrightsville Beach it was 100, for Carolina Beach more than 80. Lifeguards stayed busy with more than 25 ocean rescues at Kure Beach, the most since Memorial Day last year. Dangerous rip currents fueled by Tropical Storm Colin continue to bash the coast. Heavy surf and dangerous side shore currents kept rescuers off the stands and in the water throughout the day on Saturday. With Tropical Storm Colin at a near standstill near the island of Bermuda it looks as though today may see even worse currents still. Tropical Storm Colin is expected to head north today, relieving rip current risks by early next week.

Tropical storm DIANMU was 185 nmi NW of Kadena AB, Okinawa.
Tropical storm ESTELLE was 338 nmi SSW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. [not likely to hit land]
Tropical depression 05 was 166 nmi NW of Key West, Florida.
Tropical depression ESTELLE was 374 nmi SSW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Tropical storm DIANMU was 149 nmi SSE of Seoul, Korea.
05 – The National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico as the fifth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season formed in the southeastern Gulf. The storm – which would be named Danielle if, as expected, it reaches tropical storm status – grew from tropical wave status about 375 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and was headed in that direction at about 6 mph. Tropical Depression 5's top sustained winds reached 35 mph – just short of the 39 mph tropical storm threshold.
A warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected in the area within 36 hours. Forecasters, however, said they did not expect more than "modest strengthening" as the storm makes a more northerly turn before coming ashore. Preparing for the worst, Louisiana's St. Bernard Parish activated its severe weather plan for oil spill operators. Earlier Tuesday, attempts to complete the relief well expected to permanently stop BP's oil spill will be delayed because of the approaching weather system.
Bermuda was spared from tropical storm-force winds as Colin once again defied expectations and dissipated as it neared the island over the weekend. Dry air and high wind shear combined to weaken Colin as it approached Bermuda on Sunday, Aug. 8. The storm deteriorated to a tropical depression, “meaning that the impacts to Bermuda were minimal.” The storm fizzled out earlier last week as well, and the National Hurricane Center gave it just a 20 percent chance of reforming into a tropical storm within 48 hours. But Colin did become a tropical storm again late last week and as of Friday, it was on track to pass near Bermuda. The NHC issued a tropical storm warning for the island and noted that Colin had a chance to pass directly over Bermuda if its path deviated slightly to the east.
But the warning was later cancelled as Colin dissipated over the weekend.
Atlantic Hotter Than Before Katrina, Boosting Storm Forecasts – Meteorologists at the U.S. National Hurricane Center say there’s more reason for concern that the sky will fall than any time since 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. At least 15 more “named” storms with winds of 39 miles per hour or more will develop before the 2010 season ends, Colorado State researchers predict. With two months of the hurricane season gone, the statistics of the past 15 years show now is the time when it worsens. Forecasters blame rising temperatures in the Atlantic that feed storm development, and diminishing wind shear and dust from the Sahara, obstacles to storm formation.
Three storms have formed so far this season, a start that appears slow but is ahead of the statistical average. The second named storm, which doesn’t normally occur until Aug. 1, came in July, and the first hurricane, statistically due on or after Aug. 10, appeared in June. If all the storms forecast by Colorado State materialize, 2010 will be tied with 1969, the fifth-busiest season on record. Five years ago, in the most-active hurricane season on record, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita killed more than 1,800 people, caused $91 billion in damage, destroyed 115 energy platforms in the Gulf, and shut down 95 percent of Gulf oil production and almost 30 percent of U.S. refining capacity. Gasoline prices soared to as much as $5 a gallon and shortages were reported across the South. Since 1995, when a cyclical increase in Atlantic hurricanes began, 89 percent of all storms have formed after Aug. 1. The hurricanes that do about 85 percent of the damage when they hit land typically form between Aug. 20 and Oct. 20. Pre-season forecasts from Colorado State and the Hurricane Center were for 2010 to be one of the worst hurricane seasons on record in the Atlantic in part because of the ocean’s warmth.
Sea surface temperatures in the mid-Atlantic between the Lesser Antilles and the African coast averaged 1.2 degrees Celsius (about 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit) above normal from March to June, warmer than the 0.92 degrees in 2005. Colorado State forecast 18 storms for 2010, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts 14 to 20 from June 1 through Nov. 30. Most storms grow out of weather systems known as African waves, organized masses of thunderstorms that move into the Atlantic about every three days from June to October. There are about 60 to 70 per season and that number doesn’t change much from year to year. With less than 18 weeks left until the hurricane season ends Nov. 30, the Atlantic will need to produce about one storm a week to meet Colorado State’s forecast. “There have been years where six, seven, eight storms form in September alone. Certainly with the way the conditions are, it wouldn’t surprise us to have multiple storms. "
Tropical Storm Dianmu weakened as it passed over the southern coast of South Korea, leaving three dead.
CHINA – Tropical storm "Dianmu", bringing more torrential rain, is sweeping towards the region of north-west China which was hit earlier by massive landslides. Three days of torrential rain are due. At least three villages in remote Zhouqu county were levelled by an avalanche of mud and rocks triggered by rain on Saturday. Now rescue teams fear the fresh storms could not only hinder work to find survivors but also trigger fresh landslides.
Former Tropical depression 05 was 148 nmi SW of Apalachicola, Florida.
Tropical depression DIANMU was 249 nmi NW of Tokyo, Japan.
Tropical Storm Dianmu approaches Japan's north after killing five in Korea. Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued warnings for heavy rain, high waves, storm surges and landslides as Tropical Storm Dianmu approached. Sustained winds slowed to 83 kilometers (52 miles) per hour as Dianmu left the Korean peninsula and began tracking through the Sea of Japan toward the main island of Honshu. The storm was forecast to make landfall close to Akita city in northern Japan late Wednesday. Dianmu is expected to cross northern Honshu and skirt the southern coast of the island of Hokkaido. Dianmu is the goddess who commands thunder and lightning in Chinese mythology.
A tropical depression in the eastern Gulf of Mexico dissipated before reaching the coast, where as much as 8 inches of rain may fall by the weekend. The system, with maximum sustained winds of 30 miles (45 kilometers) per hour, was about 170 miles south of Mobile, Alabama, and moving northwest at 12 mph, a center advisory reported just before 5 p.m. Miami time Wednesday. Its remnants were expected to wash ashore overnight somewhere from southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
The storm was forecast to push seas to about 12 feet in the area where BP Plc is drilling a relief well to permanently plug the oil spill. Work on the well was stopped Tuesday, and drilling can probably resume Aug. 16 or 17 after the storm passes.
The hurricane center said 3 inches to 5 inches of rain was likely along the northern Gulf Coast, with 8 inches in some areas. The storm’s surge is expected to be 1 foot to 2 feet above normal along the coast and just east of where it goes ashore. Louisiana's governor declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm, saying in a statement posted on the state’s website that the declaration was needed “given the threatened tropical storm conditions and complicating factors created by the oil spill.”
The hurricane center is also tracking two other systems. One, in the central Atlantic, has been given a 50 percent chance of organizing into a cyclone in the next two days, and the other off northern South America has a 10 percent chance. The central-Atlantic system will stay at sea and won’t be a threat to the U.S. The other is worth watching, although it “still has a long way to go. I feel the Gulf will remain threat-free through the first half of next week." After that, there are some threats looming. High-altitude winds called shear and dust from the Sahara that has been preventing African waves from growing into tropical cyclones are just about gone. “With low shear and little in the way of Saharan dust, these storm complexes that are emerging off Africa will have a free ride. These storms that form off Cape Verde will be the real deal and not the teaser storms we’ve been dealing with.”
HEAVY RAINS / FLOODING / LANDSLIDES / UNUSUAL & OUT-OF-SEASON WEATHER –
Nearly 1,700 dead, missing in China floods – The number of people killed or missing in devastating floods across China so far this year has risen to nearly 1,700, the government said Wednesday, warning the situation could still get worse. Parts of southern, central and northern China have been hit by summer downpours that have caused the worst flooding in a decade, triggered deadly landslides, cut off roads, and left villages inaccessible. "So far this year, 140 million people have been impacted in 28 flood-hit provinces, 1,072 have been killed and 619 people are missing."
August and September are the months when typhoons frequently form and make landfall, which could aggravate the situation. Some large rivers in the nation are still swollen to dangerous levels, more than 160 cities across China are flooded, eight small reservoirs have collapsed and more than 1,000 reservoirs are at risk.
At least 80 people were killed Saturday in landslides triggered by heavy rain in north-west China and 2,000 are missing. The landslides hit a mainly Tibetan area in Gansu province. The landslides buried a number of houses and blocked a river which has swollen to flood a wide area. Soldiers have been despatched to the hilly area to look for survivors. About 19,000 people living downstream from the landslide blocking the river have been evacuated. The landslides struck late on Saturday after torrential rains and a small hydro-electric power station was destroyed. "The water of the Bailong River then flowed into the county seat and many people were trapped. Now the sludge became the biggest problem to rescue operations. It's too thick to walk or drive through."
More heavy rain in Pakistan is frustrating efforts to help about 12 million people affected by severe flooding in much of the country.
Pakistan floods threaten key barrage in southern Sindh – Waters have exceeded the danger level at a key flood barrier in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh. The Sukkur Barrage flooding means Sindh faces as much devastation as that seen further north in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces. Enraged survivors have been physically attacking government officials in flood-hit areas, amid widespread anger at the pace of the relief effort. At least 1,600 people have died in the region's WORST DELUGE IN 80 YEARS. With more than 14 million people already affected, the monsoon rains show little sign of abating.
Flood waters have roared down from the north to the agricultural heartland of Punjab and on to Sindh along a trail more than 1,000km (600 miles) long. In the early hours of Monday morning, the water flow coming down the Sukkur Barrage was recorded at up to 1.4m cusecs (cubic feet per second). It is only designed to withstand 900,000 cusecs. Upper Sindh is already under water, and rescuers are continuing to evacuate people from the province, where the Indus river banks are at risk of bursting. Two million people have already left the area.
Meanwhile, two major private Pakistani television channels, Geo and Ary, have reportedly been blocked in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. No official reason has been given, although correspondents say media criticism of President Asif Ali Zardari and his government's response to the flood disaster is likely to have played a key role.
Flood survivors have bitterly accused the authorities of failing to come to their rescue, with Mr Zardari in particular condemned for his trip to Europe last week.
The Prime Minister said the country had been set back years. The entire Swat valley, in north-west Pakistan, was cut off at the weekend, with even helicopters unable to reach it because of the poor weather. With roads, bridges and railway tracks washed away, and deadly landslides increasing the isolation of many of the worst-hit areas, aid workers are having to use donkeys to deliver relief. In the far north of the country, dozens of people were killed on Saturday when two villages were buried in mud and rocks. Nearly 30 bodies were recovered from rubble after landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan province. Pakistan will need billions of dollars in aid to recover. (map)
UN says Pakistan's floods are worse than the Asian tsunami and the Haiti quake combined – Flood-hit Pakistan is going through an experience that was far worse than the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the October 8, 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the January 13, 2010 Haiti earthquake. "It looks like the number of people affected in this crisis is higher than the Haiti earthquake, the tsunami or the Pakistan earthquake, and if the toll is as high as the one given by the government, it's higher than the three of them combined." On Sunday, the UN special envoy for the disaster said Pakistan would need billions of dollars more from international donors to recover from the floods. The scale of the crisis has overwhelmed Islamabad and generated widespread anger among flood victims about aid not reaching them quickly enough or at all. Rescue workers have been unable to reach up to 600,000 people marooned in the Swat Valley. Hundreds of thousands of people have also had to flee rising floodwaters in Punjab and Sindh as heavy rains continue to pound parts of the country. The government is already struggling with a faltering economy and a brutal war against Taliban militants that has killed thousands of people.
The mudslides in China have killed at least 127 people and left 1300 missing in the northwest.
CENTRAL EUROPE – Flash floods brought on by rains in central Europe and the Baltic have killed at least 15. Rivers overflowed their banks, sending torrents of water through Bogatynia in south-west Poland and Goerlitz in eastern Germany. The Neisse river, on the border with Poland, reached its HIGHEST RECORDED LEVEL in Goerlitz. Three Poles, three Germans and five Czechs were killed, while further north in Lithuania four people were killed. Three other Czechs were reported missing after the downpours on Saturday triggered the floods.
The heavy downpour caused Poland's Miedzianka river to overflow, flooding Bogatynia before swelling the Niesse river. "The flood wave hit the town in a few hours. We couldn't do anything to get ready for that." 1,500 people evacuated their homes in Goerlitz as torrents of water rushed through the streets. Further west, near Chemnitz, three Germans were found drowned in the flooded cellar of the building they lived in in Neukirchen, near the Czech border. An additional five people drowned over the weekend in the Czech Republic where people were plucked by helicopter from the roofs of their homes in the towns of Chrastava and Frydlant. As the storms moved north, four people were killed in Lithuania. Two campers died when a tree collapsed on their tent. The same region was hit by heavy flooding in May and June this year, killing nearly 30 people.
CHINA – Hopes of finding survivors of China's WORST MUDSLIDE IN DECADES faded today as the death toll topped 700.
CHINA'S consumer inflation accelerates as its WORST FLOODS IN A DECADE clear crops and disrupt transport links, raising food prices.
INDONESIA – “Extreme weather changes have already hit Indonesia. The weather is currently unfriendly; we need to remind people to be careful.” The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency earlier forecast that this year’s dry season would arrive in Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sulawesi and Maluku sometime from May to June. The forecast was then revised to July due to UNEXPECTED rises in sea temperatures that caused massive evaporation and heavy rains. In March, the agency had issued an annual weather forecast stating that the dry season would fall in June at the latest. However, rains continue to sweep several big cities in the country, including Jakarta.
Turbo-charged monsoon confounds forecasters – Normally the jet stream is a giant loop of high speed winds that whip round the upper atmosphere. The jet stream isn't involved in day to day weather – it's too high up – but because it pushes the atmosphere around it's very important in steering large scale weather patterns below.
The stream has split in two. One arm has gone north, another south. The patch in the middle is Russia's drought. A circulating pattern of air has been sitting over Russia for far longer than normal, causing the extreme temperatures and wildfires they've had there. But what's happening over Pakistan is even stranger. The southern arm of the Jet stream has looped down so far it has crossed over the Himalayas into north western Pakistan. Experts at the Met Office say this is VERY UNUSUAL. And the result is that the fast moving jets stream winds high up have helped suck the warm, wet, monsoon air even faster and higher into the atmosphere – and that has caused rains like no one can remember. It has turbo charged the monsoon if you like. They're NOT SURE THAT'S EVER HAPPENED BEFORE.
Heavy rain in north-west China is disrupting rescue efforts in Zhouqu county, which was hit by a landslide on Sunday killing more than 1,000 people. Hundreds more are still missing, with hopes of finding survivors fading. Fresh mudslides have blocked a road being used to bring in supplies as well as blocking the Bailong river, forcing the water level to rise by 3m (10ft). Emergency shelters have been flooded. Forecasters predict heavier downpours for the next two days. 1,117 people are confirmed dead and more than 627 missing, 45,000 people in Zhouqu county evacuated, 300 buildings buried under mud and 66% of the county is without power. As much as 90mm (3.5in) of rain was forecast for today.
Thunderstorms overnight triggered mudslides that swept away six houses in a village near Zhouqu town, leaving three people missing. The rains have made the mud more unstable and the authorities face a dilemma: should they continue the search for survivors or concentrate on clearing the debris? The continuing rain means that unless the sludge is cleared quickly there is risk of further disaster.
The affected area is mountainous and has few roads. Some have been blocked by landslides, while others are congested with heavy traffic. The authorities also face a growing problem of where to house survivors. More than 1,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed and another 3,000 flooded. More than 4,000 tents have been sent to Zhouqu county but the mountainous terrain means there is little open space to set up camps.
'Hundreds trapped' in mud as rains spread to Sichaun, China. The toll is rising in northern and western China and rains in Sichaun have killed five.
500 people are trapped by mudslides in Mianzhu, close to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan. Rescue teams have now been sent to Sichuan as well as to Gansu province. Rains started near Chengdu on Thursday evening and have now cut off communications and road links. Many people had left the area, which was scarred by the huge earthquake of 2008 and so could be more vulnerable to land slips.
As recue work continues further north, questioning has begun over what could have caused the landslide in Zhouqu, Gansu, to be so devastating. People are asking if heavy logging in the area and poor urban planning is to blame for the disaster. The Chinese media say studies carried out by researchers in the 1970s and again in the 1990s concluded the area was vulnerable to natural disasters. Logging – both legal and illegal – made the problem worse. The area is extremely poor. Logging was banned there 12 years ago but people continued to cut down and sell trees on the mountainside to make a living. A recent drought and the Sichuan earthquake two years ago may have weakened the rock face above the town but protective measures and warning systems could have saved lives.
Whatever the cause, survivors of the Gansu landslide are now huddled in tents, which are drenched through, pitched on unstable slopes. Fresh mudslides have blocked a road being used to bring in supplies as well as blocking the Bailong river, forcing the water level to rise by 3m (10ft). Emergency shelters have been flooded. Forecasters predict heavier downpours for the next two days. As much as 90mm (3.5in) of rain was forecast for today.
The floods have spread from the northwest of the country, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area, through Punjab and then down to the more southerly Sindh province. "You have to imagine the length and breadth of Pakistan, areas along the Indus river and other tributaries. Those people living alongside these rivers, many people tenant farmers and others, have lost their homes, have seen their homes damaged or even if their homes are intact, all their possessions – fans, clothing, quilts, bedding, other items – are completely awash with mud and unusable. These people are not wealthy people, they have lost everything and most of all they have lost all their food stocks, and this is very dangerous for a population that’s impoverished already."
IOWA – Ames has been inundated – Wednesday the college town in central Iowa was turned into an island, surrounded by water, no travel on I-35 or Highway 30. Hundreds have been forced from their homes after 3 consecutive nights of torrential thunderstorms. The flooding may turn out to be even worse then the record floods of 1993. As of late night the city's water supply had been shut down, local residents forced to boil water for drinking and washing. Iowa State University has been shut down today because of the flooding. 4 hours to the north, much of the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, metro area picked up nearly a MONTH'S worth of rain in about 4-6 hours Tuesday. There were 3 separate storms on Tuesday, early morning, late afternoon, again late evening. This is the first time meterologists can recall 3 separate outbreaks of storms in one afternoon/evening. When there's this much water in the air (and the atmosphere is this unstable with UNUSALLY cold air floating 5-7 miles overhead) it doesn't take much to turn otherwise tame updrafts into full-blown thunderheads, towering "cumulonimbus" clouds sprouting 50,000 to 60,000 feet into the sky, a wall of water.
SNOW AND COLD
Snow in Brazil, below zero Celsius in the River Plate and tropical fish frozen. For a second day running it snowed Wednesday (August 5) in Southern Brazil and in twelve of Argentina’s 24 provinces including parts of Buenos Aires as a consequence of the polar front covering most of the continent’s southern cone with zero and below zero temperatures. In Argentina the phenomenon extended to Northern provinces, geographically sub-tropical, while in the Patagonia and along the Andes snow reached over a metre deep, isolating villages and causing yet undisclosed losses to crops and livestock. The extreme cold weather was expected to peak Thursday dawn with below zero temperatures and even lower with the wind chill factor.
Last Wednesday a northbound cold front hit the Patagonia and central Argentine regions. In Patagonia, minimum temperatures went as low as minus 10 Celsius with even lower numbers in snowy regions, while maximum temps were in the range of zero to 7 Celsius. Because of the freezing temperatures power consumption SET NEW RECORDS both in Argentina and Uruguay. Although residential demand was satisfied, hundreds of industries suffered an anticipated blackout.
In related news, reports from landlocked Bolivia indicate that to the east of the country in tropical areas temperatures plummeted to zero causing “millions of dead fish” in rivers that normally flow in an environment of 20 Celsius. The province is suffering a “major environmental catastrophe” and the population was warned not to make use of water from rivers (because of the dead fauna and flora). “The last time something of this magnitude happened was 47 years ago."
Over 1 million fish and thousands of alligators, turtles, dolphins and other river wildlife are floating dead in numerous Bolivian rivers in the three eastern/southern departments of Santa Cruz, Beni and Tarija. The extreme cold front that hit Bolivia in mid-July caused water temperatures to dip below the minimum temperatures river life can tolerate. As a consequence, rivers, lakes, lagoons and fisheries are brimming with decomposing fish and other creatures.
UNPRECEDENTED: Nothing like this has ever been seen in this magnitude in Bolivia. Inhabitants of riverside communities report the smell is nauseating and can be detected as far as a kilometer away from river banks. River communities, whose livelihoods depend on fishing, fear they'll run out of food and will have nothing to sell. Authorities are concerned there will be a shortage of fish in markets and are more concerned by possible threats to public health, especially in communities that also use river water for bathing and drinking, but also fear contaminated or decaying fish may end up in market stalls. They've begun a campaign to ensure market vendors and the public know how to tell the difference between fresh and unhealthy fish. In university fish ponds and commercial fisheries the losses are also catastrophic. [Reportedly the number has now climbed to 6 million.]
YouTube video showing the masses of dead fish. It's in Spanish, but "dead fish are dead fish".
FISH DEATHS
Tens of thousands of dead fish have washed ashore along the Delaware Bay in southern New Jersey. State environmental and wildlife officials say it's not yet clear what killed the fish, which appear to exclusively small menhaden, also known as peanut bunker. The wash-up, discovered yesterday morning, encompassed a large stretch of the shoreline just north of Cape May. The heaviest amounts were in an area of Middle Township known as Pierce's Point. Water samples taken by federal environmental officials found no indication of toxic phytoplankton species, such as red tide. State officials also are analysing oxygen levels in the water.
EXTREME HEAT / WILDFIRES / DROUGHT / CLIMATE CHANGE-
Huge ice sheet breaks from Greenland glacier – A giant sheet of ice measuring 260 sq km (100 sq miles) has broken off a glacier in Greenland. The block of ice separated from the Petermann Glacier, on the north-west coast of Greenland. It is THE LARGEST ARCTIC ICEBERG TO CALVE SINCE 1962. The ice could become frozen in place over winter or escape into the waters between Greenland and Canada. If the iceberg moves south, it could interfere with shipping.
Cracks in the Petermann Glacier had been observed last year and it was expected that an iceberg would calve from it soon. The glacier is 1,000 km (620 miles) south of the North Pole. Nasa satellite images taken early on Thursday showed that Petermann Glacier lost about one-quarter of its 70km-long (43-mile) floating ice shelf. There was enough fresh water locked up in the ice island to "keep all US public tap water flowing for 120 days." There could be a beneficial outcome if the calving drifts to block the Nares Strait and effectively prevents the loss of more ice from the Lincoln Sea.
It was not clear if the event was due to global warming. The first six months of 2010 have been THE HOTTEST ON RECORD gobally. (photos)
RUSSIA – Russian health officials are warning people in Moscow to stay inside and avoid physical exertion as smog from the WORST WILDFIRES IN MODERN RUSSIAN HISTORY smothers the city. Haze and smoke are spreading through Moscow's streets, even seeping into the Metro network, and some people are wearing face masks indoors. Reports suggest the city's mortality rate rose by at least 30% in July. The national death toll attributed directly to wildfires is 52. Nearly 560 fires were still burning across central Russia as of Friday. Daytime temperatures in Moscow remain close to 40C (104F) with little sign of relenting in the next few days.
The smog has been affecting the capital for a week, and appeared to have been easing – before it worsened on Friday. Air traffic at two of Moscow's international airports has been disrupted. Seven regions are under a state of emergency. Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan and Voronezh are reported to be the worst hit. Up to 2,000 homes have been destroyed in the blazes. Russia has announced it is banning the export of grain from 15 August to 31 December after drought and fires devastated about a fifth of its grain crop. It is THE WORST SMOG IN LIVING MEMORY.
Russian heatwave 'WORST IN 1000 YEARS' – The heatwave, which has caused a sanitary and agricultural crisis in Russia, is the most severe in the country's entire history. "From the moment of the foundation of our country, we can say, in the last period of 1000 years, no similar heatwave has been observed neither by ourselves nor by our ancestors. THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNIQUE PHENOMENON. There are no observations of this in the archives." Summer TEMPERATURE RECORDS HAVE TUMBLED throughout July and August with the WORST SMOG IN LIVING MEMORY FROM WILDFIRES descending on Moscow in the last days. Mortality in Moscow has doubled amid the heatwave.
ENGLAND'S first commercial melons were being prepped for sale in grocery stores across the UK, as rising temperatures in the traditionally cold and damp country saw a rise in unfamiliar crops.
The cantaloupes and watermelons were grown in Staffordshire, central England. The grower used polytunnels to protect them from wind and rain, as well as to raise temperatures. “With the general rise in temperatures here, it was well worth it and SOMETHING NOT DONE BEFORE." The warming climate also welcomed the country’s first commercial crop of kiwi fruit, due on sale in two years, while the first commercial olive groves are thriving in Kent, south-eastern England.
AUSTRALIA – Locusts could arrive in Victoria earlier than expected, with predictions that spring plagues could be THE WORST THE STATE HAS FACED IN 75 YEARS. The Australian Plague Locust Commission has revised projected locust hatchings by 10 days based on warmer than average spring temperature forecasts. "Substantial" hatching levels are now expected to hit northwest Victoria by September 25 while central and northern regions should prepare for hatchings in mid-October.
Frozen jet stream links Pakistan floods, Russian fires – Raging wildfires in western Russia have reportedly doubled average daily death rates in Moscow. Diluvial rains over northern Pakistan are surging south – the UN reports that 6 million have been affected by the resulting floods. It now seems that these two apparently disconnected events have a common cause. They are linked to the heatwave that killed more than 60 in Japan, and the end of the warm spell in western Europe. The UNUSUAL WEATHER in the US and Canada last month also has a similar cause.
According to meteorologists monitoring the atmosphere above the northern hemisphere, UNUSUAL HOLDING PATTERNS IN THE JET STREAM are to blame. As a result, weather systems sat still. Temperatures rocketed and rainfall reached extremes. Renowned for its influence on European and Asian weather, the jet stream flows between 7 and 12 kilometres above ground. In its basic form it is a current of fast-moving air that bobs north and south as it rushes around the globe from west to east. Its wave-like shape is caused by Rossby waves – powerful spinning wind currents that push the jet stream alternately north and south like a giant game of pinball.
In recent weeks, meteorologists have noticed a change in the jet stream's normal pattern. It's waves normally shift east, dragging weather systems along with it. But in mid-July they ground to a halt over the UK. There was a similar pattern over the US in late June. Stationary patterns in the jet stream are called "blocking events". They are the consequence of strong Rossby waves, which push westward against the flow of the jet stream. They are normally overpowered by the jet stream's eastward flow, but they can match it if they get strong enough. When this happens, the jet stream's meanders hold steady, creating the perfect conditions for extreme weather.
A static jet stream freezes in place the weather systems that sit inside the peaks and troughs of its meanders. Warm air to the south of the jet stream gets sucked north into the "peaks". The "troughs" on the other hand, draw in cold, low-pressure air from the north. Normally, these systems are constantly on the move – but not during a blocking event. And so it was that Pakistan fell victim to torrents of rain. The blocking event coincided with the summer monsoon, bringing down additional rain on the mountains to the north of the country. It was the final straw for the Indus's congested river bed.
Similarly, as the static jet stream snaked north over Russia, it pulled in a constant stream of hot air from Africa. The resulting heatwave is responsible for extensive drought and nearly 800 wildfires at the latest count. The same effect is probably responsible for the heatwave in Japan, which killed over 60 people in late July. At the same time, the blocking event put an end to unusually warm weather in western Europe.
Blocking events are not the preserve of Europe and Asia. Back in June, a similar pattern developed over the US, allowing a high-pressure system to sit over the eastern seaboard and push up the mercury. Meanwhile, the Midwest was bombarded by air from the north, with chilly effects. Instead of moving on in a matter of days, "the pattern persisted for more than a week".
So what is the root cause of all of this? Meteorologists are unsure. Climate change models predict that rising greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere will drive up the number of extreme heat events. Whether this is because greenhouse gas concentrations are linked to blocking events or because of some other mechanism entirely is impossible to say. The resolution in climate models is too low to reproduce atmospheric patterns like blocking events. So they cannot say anything about whether or not their frequency will change.
There is some tentative evidence that the sun may be involved. Earlier this year an astrophysicist showed that winter blocking events were more likely to happen over Europe when solar activity is low – triggering freezing winters. Now he says he has evidence from 350 years of historical records to show that low solar activity is also associated with summer blocking events. "There's enough evidence to suspect that the jet stream behaviour is being modulated by the sun." Blocking events have been UNUSUALLY COMMON over the last three years, for instance, causing severe floods in the UK and heatwaves in eastern Europe in 2007. Solar activity has been low throughout.
RUSSIA – Moscow 'hiding heatstroke cases' after death rate jumps. Doctors in Moscow are being told not to diagnose heatstroke as a cause of death after a jump in the mortality rate during the heatwave. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one doctor said the unofficial instruction being passed down was to use diagnoses that "sound less frightening". The emergencies ministry reported that as of Thursday morning 66 major fires continued to burn across Russia, 40 of them in peat bogs, which are notoriously difficult to extinguish. While wildfires continued to burn up to 100km (60 miles) away from the site of the Chernobyl nuclear accident in Ukraine, experts said there was little danger of serious radioactive contamination. The fires have destroyed a quarter of the agricultural land where cereals are grown. Russia has already suspended exports of wheat.
The number of people said to have been killed by the fires directly stands at 54 after two security personnel died fighting flames near the Sarov nuclear research centre in Nizhny Novgorod. Little has been revealed officially about the number of people who succumbed to temperatures approaching 40C (104F) and choking smog from the fires.
National mortality figures for the summer have not been reported and when the city of Moscow revealed on Monday that its daily death rate had more than doubled, the federal government swiftly challenged the figures. A doctor said,
"We were told that the figures for heatstroke in Moscow had gone off the scale." "Even though the heatwave is now abating, the informal instruction is in force until 1 September."
Upper temperatures in Moscow are forecast to fall just below 30C at the weekend, though this is still well above the August average of 22C. The sky above the city was clear of smog on Thursday thanks to favourable winds and some success in fighting the wildfires.
AUSTRALIA'S fish are on the move – and climate change has been blamed. Researchers have found about a third of coastal fish species in the country's southeast are moving territory. Warm-water species like the rock blackfish are thriving, extending their range and becoming more abundant. Queensland tiger sharks are making their way south.
But some cool-water fish are struggling, with 19 Tasmanian fish species in serious decline or becoming extinct.
"The problem is that in southern Tasmania, shallow cold-water species have nowhere to escape warmer conditions in the sea." The researchers said the changes are partly due to climate change. Southeast Australia was a "climate change hotspot" with water temperatures in some areas rising by almost two degrees.
CROP FAILURES –
One quarter of Russia's crops have been lost amid a record heatwave. President Medvedev warned that many farms were on the verge on bankruptcy. "We have a very complicated situation because as a whole in the country around a quarter of the grain crops have been burned." Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin earlier this week sliced the leading wheat producer's grain harvest forecast due to a RECORD DROUGHT, saying it would produce 10 million tonnes less grain than planned. Mr Putin last week shocked international markets by announcing that from Sunday Russia would ban exports to keep prices down at home and ensure there was enough feed grain for its cattle herd.
Global wheat supply forecast cut – The USDA cut the forecast for global production in 2010-11 by 2.3% after revising down its crop forecast for Russia. Global production would be 15.3m tonnes lower at 645.7m tons, it said. The production outlook for Russia, which has seen its crops devastated by drought and extreme heat, was lowered by 15% to 45m tonnes. Neighbouring Kazakhstan also had its forecast cut. But world wheat stocks still remain above crisis levels seen in 2007-08. The USDA said stocks would fall from just under 194m tonnes to 174.8m tonnes.
The cut to production forecasts was bigger than analysts had expected. But it was offset somewhat by increases in production forecast in the US, India, Australia and Uzbekistan. The USDA report also predicted that reduced supplies and higher prices would reduce global consumption of wheat. Earlier this month, fears about production levels lifted wheat prices on the futures markets to their highest levels for two years. But the USDA sought to play down concerns that wheat prices would continue to rise to levels last seen during the food price crisis three years ago.
"Expectations that prices in the next few months will hit the record levels of 2007-08 are not substantiated by the reality of the global supply situation." Last year, Russia was the world's third largest wheat exporter, behind the US and Canada, according to the USDA. The USDA cut its wheat production forecasts for Kazakhstan by 18%. It is suffering the same conditions as Russia. Ukraine had its forecast cut by 15%. "The FSU [Former Soviet Union] NUMBERS WERE BREATHTAKING. We haven't seen USDA make an adjustment like that for some time."
Pakistan floods cause 'huge losses' to crops – Significant amounts of the grain, sugarcane and rice harvests have been washed away. Floodwater triggered by heavy monsoon rains is still surging south along the Indus River, forcing people from their homes.
Grain stocks had been destroyed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly North West Frontier) province, but some remained in southern Punjab province. "We have losses in cotton, in sugarcane, in rice, in pulses and in tobacco – these are huge losses for the future. These are the nation's cash crops which will really affect the economy of Pakistan." Aid workers are reportedly being attacked by desperate, starving people. "Their crops have gone, their livestock has gone, the infrastructure, the roads are gone. Right now our land link with the rest of the country is gone." In a statement this week, the Pakistani Taliban described the floods as God's punishment on the country for accepting secular leaders. They urged Pakistanis to boycott foreign aid.
Australian vegetable production falls. – A 5.9 percent drop in Australian vegetable production has compounded the pressure local growers are feeling from imports. The drop in production was worrying, as it came as consumers were paying the lowest winter prices in more than five years, and competition from imports increased. Production of capsicums was down most, by 16.7 per cent, potatoes by 15.8 per cent and watermelons by 13.8 per cent on the previous year. The area planted for vegetables fell by about 4 per cent in 2008/09.
SPACE NEWS-
Sunspots – People living in the northern hemisphere have experienced extreme heat in recent months, while temperatures in the southern hemisphere have been exceptionally low. The extreme weather may be related with sunspot activity said an expert in meteorology. The sun was relatively dormant, with little sunspot activity from 2007, until this July. The solar activity cycle, measured by the rise and fall in the number of sunspots, lasts about 11 years.
Solar activity reached a peak in 2000, when the Wolf index of sunspot activity hit 119.6. Since then sunspots decreased year by year, with index values lower than 10 seen since 2007. It is the first time that the sun has passed through such a lengthy dormant phase in the past hundred years.
Climate on the Earth depends on atmospheric circulation and the sun provides the energy that powers the circulation. Climate fluctuations also follow an 11-year cycle, similar to the solar cycle. Atmospheric circulation exchanges water vapor and heat in the northern and southern hemispheres to reach a balance when solar activities are normal. Extreme weather results from unusual atmospheric circulation patterns that interfere with the normal exchange of water vapor and heat between the hemispheres.
Another researcher disagreed. It was abnormal for the sun to such low levels of activity in recent years, but the intensity of illumination and heat transmitted from the sun to the Earth did not change dramatically. There is no definite evidence of the link between sunspots and climate fluctuations, he said.
SOLAR BLAST JUST MISSES EARTH – On August 7th (1825 UT), magnetic fields around sunspot 1093 became unstable and erupted, producing a strong M1-class solar flare. The eruption hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space, just missing a direct sun-Earth line. Forecasters expect the cloud to deliver no more than a glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field when it billows by on August 9th or 10th – not a major space weather event. Future eruptions could turn out differently. Active region 1093 is rotating toward Earth. By the end of this weekend, we'll be in the line of fire if its magnetic fields become unstable again.
Sun’s Eruption towards earth might have caused downpour tragedy in Leh, India – Recent irregular flare of the Sun, which left for the Earth on August 1, affects the weak areas and possibly it has hit the area of Leh, where at least 115 people are confirmed to have been dead and officially 412 injured in flash floods near Leh on Thursday night. The cloudbursts hit Choglumsar area, 13 kilometres from Leh and 424 kilometres from Srinagar, it might be the part of the flare that has touched the Earth, it may further break the base of some clouds to burst in the Himalayan pocket.
The Leh tragedy might be one of the results of earth being hit by a solar tsunami, which carries an unusual magnetic eruption from the Sun towards the Earth. The damage depends on the power of the eruption as well as its irregular direction. This eruption actually flung a large cloud of electrically charged particles into space and towards the Earth, however, its power was not so strong enough to tear off the natural protecting shield of the Earth. The protecting shield of the Earth is there to save our planet; all these combined factors came to our rescue, otherwise the damage could be very high.
NASA’s SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) recorded on Sunday (August 1) a small solar flare eruption above sunspot 1092, the size of the Earth. The satellites also recorded a large filament of cool gas, which stretched across the Sun's northern hemisphere, and exploded in space. The explosion, called a coronal mass ejection, did move towards Earth, which then sent a "solar tsunami" racing 93 million miles across space, but the impact is different this time, it looks to have hit at higher altitudes, the mountains and their glaciers and the tragedy of Leh is a possible outcome, and it is not the end, some other tragedies may develop during another 20 days or so. When a violent cloud hits, it sparks auroras in the skies around the poles and can pose a threat to satellites. Since the flare of the Sun this time is irregular, its exact direction on the earth couldn't be determined in advance, being very weak.
The Sun plays a big role in tragedies on the Earth, the flares of the Sun which occur regularly after 11 years and irregularly between 4 and 32 years, being the reaction of the hydrogen bombs that occur there regularly. It is natural. If the flares from the Sun did not occur for about 450 years, and were blocked for some reason, the entire Sun could explode. The Sun is just a hydrogen power house which supplies power to all its satellites including the Earth.
[Related to the above article about the solar tsunami hitting glacial areas??] CANADA – Nearly 1,500 residents of a British Columbia community were allowed to return home on Saturday (August 7) after fears eased that a landslide-created dam would break, flooding their homes. Authorities had ordered the evacuations near Pemberton, British Columbia, about 93 miles north of Vancouver, after a massive landslide on Friday blocked a stream and caused water to back up behind the debris. Geologists initially feared the debris dam would give way suddenly and flood the valley, but the water instead cut a new route through the mud and rock, allowing it to drain gradually. The cause of the landslide was unknown, but geologists speculate melting of a glacier on Mount Meager exposed unstable rock on a dormant volcano that broke free and crashed into the wilderness valley. Nobody was injured in the slide, but about a dozen campers were airlifted to safety on Friday.
HEALTH THREATS
New Zealand is still experiencing a significant level of swine flu despite the WHO's claim that the global pandemic is over. The World Health Organization on Tuesday declared the H1N1 flu pandemic over, after a little more than a year.
The H1N1 pandemic may be abating in much of the world, but India reports 942 new cases in the past week (Aug 2-8), with 83 deaths. Two patients in the city of Pune died from pandemic H1N1 Aug 6, bringing the number of H1N1 deaths there to 99 since April. The state health department reported that 29 people are in critical condition and on ventilator support in city hospitals; 38 people tested positive for the infection Aug 6.
Plastic surgery patients have carried a new class of superbugs resistant to almost all antibiotics from South Asia to Britain and they could spread worldwide. Many hospital infections that were already difficult to treat have become even more impervious to drugs thanks to a recently discovered gene that can jump across different species of bacteria. This so-called NDM-1 gene was first identified last year in two types of bacteria – Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli – in a Swedish patient admitted to hospital in India. Worryingly, the new NDM-1 bacteria are resistant even to carbapenems, a group of antibiotics often reserved as a last resort for emergency treatment for multi-drug resistant bugs. Crucially, the NDM-1 gene was found on DNA structures, called plasmids, that can be easily copied and transferred between bacteria, giving the bug "an alarming potential to spread and diversify. Unprecedented air travel and migration allow bacterial plasmids and clones to be transported rapidly between countries and continents," mostly undetected.
India trashes 'superbug' report, says it's doctored – A day after the Lancet report on drug-resistant 'superbug' NDM-1 created a global scare, India has hit out at the study, which it said was funded by pharma companies that make antibiotics to treat such cases.
AUSTRALIA has recorded three cases of the same new class of superbug – the most resistant to antibiotics yet seen – that is on the rise in Britain.
China examines milk powder 'premature puberty' reports. – China's government is investigating reports that a brand of powdered milk caused infant girls to grow breasts. It is being alleged that hormone-tainted milk from Synutra International caused several cases of premature puberty in Hubei province. A food safety expert for the World Health Organization said China's test results were expected within days and that the agency would then examine them. "At first look, it looks very surprising," he said, adding that this was the first time he had ever heard of such a case. Food safety problems involving milk powder and other products have alarmed Chinese consumers in recent years.
Two years ago, the chemical compound melamine was found in milk products made by 22 Chinese firms. Hundreds of thousands of children were poisoned and six died.

STRANGE ANIMAL BEHAVIOR -
A monster fish has been terrorising swimers at a popular Darwin city beach. Witnesses say the 1m-long beast – dubbed The Sucker Fish – chases, head butts, slaps and nibbles on anyone near it at the recreation lagoon at the waterfront. "He's very territorial. Once you go through its territory it chases you for about 100m all the way back to shore. He either hits you with his finn or tries to head butt you. It's quite eerie when he first does it." Experts are puzzled as to the kind of species the beast may be, speculating a queenfish or trevally may be behind the attacks. The behaviour is UNUSUAL. "I don't think it would be dangerous."
The sightings came a year after a rogue cod bit a woman on the toe while standing in shallow water at Lake Alexander, in Fannie Bay. Darwin City Council closed the lake and used nets and traps for days before catching the fish and releasing it in the ocean.
Hundreds of tourists stung as 'invisible' jellyfish invade Spain's beaches. A flotilla of almost undetectable jellyfish has invaded the beaches of Spain, stinging hundreds of swimmers in days. Thousands of the sea jellies have congregated on the beaches of the Costa Blanca, one of the country’s most popular vacation hotspots, stinging 700 people since Sunday. On an average day only four or five people would fall victim to the creatures.
The invading invertebrates are even more dangerous because they are transparent – prompting authorities in some areas to raise the red flag to stop swimmers entering the waters. “In the five or six years I have been in this job I have never seen anything like this." Officials blamed a combination of strong currents, northerly winds and warm waters – which the creatures enjoy.Experts also blamed over-fishing, which has cut stocks of tuna and swordfish, which are predators of jellyfish. Last month a giant dead jellyfish was responsible for 150 US beachgoers being stung on a beach in New Hampshire, near Boston.

Signs in False Shepherds/Religion
For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also. 2 Timothy 3:6-9

Atheists Advertise: Imagine No Religion, Sleep In on Sundays
By Audrey Barrick|Christian Post Reporter
A humanist group has launched another billboard blitz telling the public that it's OK to sleep in on Sundays, among other things.
"Obviously, there are many reasons to reject religion, most of them intellectual," said Dan Barker, FFRF co-president. "But face it – one of the immediate benefits of quitting church, besides getting a 10 percent raise because you can stop tithing, is getting to sleep in on Sundays! What the world really needs is a good night’s sleep."

Normally I'd rather go to the dentist for a root canal than watch a telethon. But while channel surfing a few nights ago I tuned into PBS and discovered that Aretha Franklin, the legendary Queen of Soul, was hosting a fundraiser for the network. Seated at a piano, she was offering a 5-CD collection of classic rhythm and blues hits in exchange for a donation to public television.
