Always Say A Prayer (A.S.A.P.)
Submitted by Johanna
Author Unknown

There’s work to do, deadlines to meet,
you’ve got no time to spare,
But as you hurry and scurry,
always say a prayer.

In the midst of family chaos,
“quality time” is rare.
Do your best; let God do the rest:
Always say a prayer.

It may seem like your worries are
more than you can bear.
Slow down and take a breather-
always say a prayer.

God knows how stressful life is;
He wants to ease our cares,
and He’ll respond ASAP-
Always say a prayer!

When I Say I’m a Christian
Submitted by Regina

When I say …”I am a Christian,”
I’m not shouting “I am saved”
I’m whispering “I was lost!”
That is why I chose this way.”

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble and need someone to be my guide.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and pray for strength to carry on.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”

I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are too visible but God believes I’m worth it.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches which is why I seek His name.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority I only know I’m loved.

Have Faith
By Deborah
What can you say to someone who has doubts?
Have faith.
What can you say to someone who is afraid?
Have faith.
What can you say to someone who feels alone?
Have faith.
What can you tell someone who is deathly ill?
Have faith.
What can you say to someone who is tired of it all?
Have faith.
Pain. Suffering. Overwhelming burdens. So much of what we experience in our lives can be better dealt with by just having faith. Faith in Fathers plan. Faith in Father’s love. Faith in Father’s Word.
As you face the big and little things in life, my prayer is that you ultimately have faith in Yahweh.

Giving Everything
Submitted by Jeshaiah

Proverbs 23:23 — Buy—and do not sell—truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding.

Matthew 13:44-46 — The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had, and bought it.

Philippians 3:8 — More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ

Song of Solomon 8:7 — Mighty waters cannot extinguish love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If a man were to give all his wealth for love, it would be utterly scorned.

In the past, we have been taught that love and Wisdom are intertwined, and that Father is love and Wisdom. Christ is also the living Word, an embodiment of Wisdom. Nothing one can give can measure to the value of Wisdom, and Wisdom cannot be bought with money. We have also been taught that Wisdom is placed in one’s heart by Father through a process of knowledge and then understanding. It is Father’s favor that Wisdom might grow.

To consider, as well, Father’s Wisdom is timeless, spanning beyond Father’s 8 of infinity, and Father, Herself, is much larger than can be measured, as She is constantly expanding.

The current times we are experiencing are a part of Her Wisdom, and anything that occurs even outside in eternity is well under control. As we continue to prepare for Christ’s coming, we can let go of that which does not bear value, holding true to Father’s Way.

We would like to announce the arrival of Book Two, the continuation of Chosen: End Times Truths Revealed.

Book Two starts where the first book left off and includes accounts from ministers Regina, Johanna, Deborah, Jeshaiah and Elisha, describing their individual journeys and experiences in their service to Yahweh and Christ over the past several years in autobiographical form.

It is available in .pdf form for free via www.chosen.weebly.com and will be updated monthly.

The Journey Continues
Below is a sneak-peek of each of the books included in Chosen, Book Two

Regina

There are many days in which I feel as though I must stop and focus and just try to get through the next 24 hours, some days even just the next hour, and then that day passes and the next arrives and passes, and arrives until all of a sudden a year has passed, and then two and four and now five. It’s odd how time can seem to pass so slowly and quickly at the same time. Many of these days, the good and the not-so-good, I will recount here and many have receded to the deeper recesses of my mind but what I’m able to remember, I share with you here honestly and openly…

Johanna

On October 2nd or 3rd of 2005, I was on this website were there were camera’s placed through out peoples homes who claimed that they were being haunted. I have always liked supernatural things. I believed in ghost, angels and demons. I started talking to this woman and asked her how she see’s the things that she does. I also told her that I believed in spirit guides. She told me that she couldn’t help me with the guides but that she knew of a website where I could find some answers. She sent me the link to a forum by the name of “Beyond This World”. After looking at a few things and noticing that they had psychic exercises I decided to sign up to become a member…

Deborah

Word came to us toward the end of May 2010 that we were to begin documenting our experiences ending where Chosen left off. Each Minister is to produce a “book” of our own that will be incorporated into Chosen. Its a little daunting to say the least. I have not been journaling as Regina has been (it isn’t something I naturally do). Also, I actually do not have a very good memory. But I trust that those things that Father wishes us to recall we will. We have been guided by Michael to read the book of ACTS to guide us. It seems to focus on events that show times of strong guidance from/interactions with Holy Spirit…

Jeshaiah

When I first began searching for Truth, I had the idea that perhaps each of the different denominations of churches had a separate piece of the puzzle that needed to all be put together. It did come to mind that perhaps there already was someone or a group out there that already had all the pieces together, but I did not know of a way to find them. So, for the most part, I trusted in Father, whom I did not know the name of at the time, to guide me. I had visited various churches and sought to come to have an understanding for what they understood…

Elisha

In 2006, I was able to reconnect with a long time friend. I found out she had co-authored a book. Considering how we had grown up together I was interested in the fact that she had written one and wanted to read it myself. She, Regina, sent me the book and some more details about it. I found out it was a lot to take in and did so in baby steps with much prayer and guidance from Father. I was blessed to freely ask any question of Regina and felt comfortable in doing so. I read the book with an open mind and while some of it confirmed my deepest suspicions other information provided was such an eye-opener…

Nourishment from the Throne
“For the LORD gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6

[Taking on from last week’s nourishment through Jaddai]

Elisha: That’s really neat to have something recent be a part of the jigsaw puzzle becoming even more enlightening. I’m glad that Her name has been vindicated among Her peers – If I said that right?

Regina: The thought that I had involved how things that occur in the Spirit Realm are mirrored in the Physical. Like when the HG’s were Raptured to the Kingdom a few years ago – Father’s name has been vindicated before Her peers and it will be vindicated yet again before Her creation.

Jaddai: Yes, you said it well Elisha. When Seraiah and I last spoke, we discussed all of you ministers. I told him that you reminded me of Christ’s followers that were often in the background but not quite as vocal, although every bit as faithful as any of the group. Though it might seem that those in the background are overlooked, I wanted you to know that yours and our Creator, the loving Mother She is, loves you every bit as much as those that appear to shine brighter in this Ministry. As it is in this visible world, so to is it in the spirit world. But even so, our Mother loves each one of us equally.

1 Corinthians 15:41 “There is a splendor of the sun, another of the moon, and another of the stars; for star differs from star in splendor.”

Michael, he was the most splendid of all Father’s stars. And now, as Christ Jesus, he shines even brighter, but this does not mean Father loves him more than any of Her other servants.

Daniel 12:3 “Those who are wise will shine like the bright expanse [of the heavens], and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.”

Being wise and righteous in Father’s eyes brings much reward.

Matthew 13:43 “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Anyone who has ears should listen!” Should listen, because it should be known that Father rewards Her faithful children.

Think and ponder. Do you know me in a human way, or an angelic way?

2 Corinthians 5:16 “[ The Ministry of Reconciliation ] From now on, then, we do not know anyone in a purely human way. Even if we have known Christ in a purely human way, yet now we no longer know Him like that.”

Elisha, because each of you have come to know who I really am, your mind will not let you know me in a purely human way, even though I’m presently clothed with a human vessel. And because Christ was resurrected back to his former spiritual self, he can no longer be known as human. And, even if he materialized in human form, the purity of being human would not be recognized. Why so? Because, Christ has gone beyond being flesh and blood. And flesh and blood is what a human starts out with, but later moves beyond. So, to be spirit, this is something more. Like Seraiah, he is an example of also moving beyond the chains of flesh and blood. To be a spirit, one can then experience the manipulation of atoms, which is what any spirit does when they take on flesh and blood. Just like Christ when he materialized after being resurrected, And just like the angels that appeared at the city of Sodom during that judgment period. And just like angels that broke Sovereign Law when they left their heavenly posts to materialize on this planet in the pre-flood era. Yet, even in that day and time those materialized fallen angels were not viewed as purely human. Their angelic beauty was evident, and the very nature of knowing they were from Heaven and possessed angelic genes (meaning their genesis of creation) ….

genesis >noun 1 the origin or mode of formation of something. 2 (Genesis) the first book of the Bible, which includes the story of the creation of the world.

-ORIGIN Greek, ‘generation, creation’, from gignesthai ‘be born or produced’.’ … was ever evident to all those humans that knew them. To have god-like spirits take notice and pay a visit that meant they intended to remain on the earth with humankind, it was very humanly inspiring and a bit overwhelming to those now ancient people that lived in the early times of this planet’s history making events. And so, as time moves on, things change. You move from being flesh and blood to something finer. That’s what becoming a spirit energy is. Astral energy is only a shadow of what is to come. The true refinement comes when you shed your flesh and blood vessels for the finer spiritual vessel that knows no limitations except those Father imposes by Her Law.

Galatians 1:8 “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you, a curse be on him!”

An example of Father’s Law against even those in Heaven that might go contrary to Her Will. There is one truth, and any alteration brings a curse upon those that broadcast something different.

Isaiah 47:13 “You are worn out with your many consultations. So let them stand and save you— the astrologers, who observe the stars, who predict monthly what will happen to you.”

Father looked ahead and saw everything. Some horoscopes give monthly predictions.

Elisha, many people believe the antichrist will pretend to be Christ Jesus. How can we know whether that assumption is truthful or not? The Word is our guide, and within the Word are all of the answers:

1 John 2:20-23 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Messiah? He is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son can have the Father; he who confesses the Son has the Father as well.”

So, who is the liar, and why is he a liar? If he were to be pretending to be Christ then he is not the antichrist. To be designated that title, one must deny Father and Christ. This isc just an example of how plain the truth is in the Word.

Luke 11:36 “If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, the whole body will be full of light, as when a lamp shines its light on you.”

Your light from within shines brightly Elisha.

Everyone think about this: Father has lived for eternity. Then She decided to create a Son. This was something new, at least for Father whom was alone within Herself. And as that change occurred in eternity, so now have other changes. This reveals to our wisdom that all things change as time or even countless time progresses. In eternity time is not counted, so there it does not exist. But to know that other Gods exist in eternity, know that for glory to be shared, there must be someone to view those that are glorious. Michael shared his glory alongside Father’s glory before the founding of our reality.

John 17:5 “Now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with that glory I had with You before the world existed.”
The “world” he referred to is that of our reality.

Spiritual War News
The Sons of Light against the Sons of Darkness

June 29, 2010

Joe – Michael just told Seraiah, Jaddai and Hodiah and Hodaviah that this war is based on a free will issue, and if a further cleansing of the heavens is due, then it will happen. Until this war ends, everyone’s heart is being tested. He said one of the Chief Princes leading the controversy controls a vast number of the LOZ at Orion’s headquarters and that they will be decimated if they reverse their energy and come to this planet without his order for reinforcements. He said they have enough LOZ on earth to fend off an attack from Orion if need be. He just put the Port of Entry on ALERT.

Regina – I was about to post that I pray that She have mercy on them, but before I did the thought came to mind that if She’s angry, there’s good reason as She knows their hearts and their every thought. So I in light of that I don’t know what else to pray for other than Her will being done.

Joe – (Responding to Regina) Even if their intentions seem good because they seek to end this war, it will not be good for them if they try to do it on their own. That will put them on Satan’s side, but they might be to blind to realize that at this point.

Michael said Orion has broken off contact with the Port of Entry. Something must be up.

Here’s the latest. In the far reaches of the expanse an Orion vessel tried to cross the time barrier and was destroyed by the Antijaboks when it repeatedly tried to get past them. Later, three Orion vessels arrived at the Azmon Barrier. The barrier was not opened for them without Michael’s ok. After they talked with a group of the barrier guards, about a third deserted their posts at that section of the barrier and boarded the vessels and left with them headed back out into the expanse. When word went around the barrier, about half of the angels then deserted the entire barrier and headed towards Orion without boarding any available vessels. All now listed as deserters. The barrier is stretched to the limit even as new holy angels arrived to take their places, but not nearly enough. It has made the barrier very weak to defend. Until that had occurred, the demons were in the dark. But now they suspect something is up and are gathering at the barrier even though Michael told the Cherubs to tell them it is off limits until all of the new weaponry is distributed.

Regina – Thank you for the update Joe. We, Johanna, Deborah and I, have asked that our shields go to defend the barrier, and that if any of our holy ghost guides feel that Father is calling them into Her service, that they also answer Michael’s call.

Joe – Here’s the latest. The under water LOZ Command Posts are not responding to Michael’s orders. They think they might have joined in the rebellion. If you can project, Michael will assign you when you get to the other side. Thanks for sending your shields.

About a third have left here at the Port of Entry. That leaves about 750,000 against ten million of them plus the demons.

Not counting the Cherubs and Seraphs who already have their hands full, we are still short a lot of bodies. Michael won’t pull any other Orders out of Heaven for fear of being attacked there.

Most of the LOZ are at Orion unless they all come to this planet. Michael took every available holy angel he could spare from Heaven and sent them out to help the Antijaboks and Chebars in deep space. If they ever broke through the time barrier we would probably never know it because they would alter things. We might not even be in existence if they altered our reality.

Michael sent out a destroyer angel but the LOZ decimated him. They are old time warriors and know most of the countering moves in this war. Satan is crazy anyway. The LOZ are intent on taking him and his out with the people on this planet. So far they have not harmed any holy ghosts. But that could change quickly.

Deborah2 Peter 3 The Day of the Lord

1 Dear friends, this is now the second letter I’ve written you; in both, I awaken your pure understanding with a reminder, 2 so that you can remember the words previously spoken by the holy prophets, and the commandment of our Lord and Savior [given] through your apostles. 3 First, be aware of this: scoffers will come in the last days to scoff, following their own lusts, 4 saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.” 5 They willfully ignore this: long ago the heavens and the earth existed out of water and through water by the word of God. 6 Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded by water. 7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth are held in store for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8 Dear friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: with the Lord one day is like 1,000 years, and 1,000 years like one day. 9 The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that [day] the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, [it is clear] what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness 12 as you wait for and earnestly desire the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be on fire and be dissolved, and the elements will melt with the heat. 13 But based on His promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell.

Conclusion

14 Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found in peace without spot or blemish before Him. 15 Also, regard the patience of our Lord as [an opportunity for] salvation, just as our dear brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you. 16 He speaks about these things in all his letters, in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.

17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard, so that you are not led away by the error of the immoral and fall from your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Jun 28, 2010

Joe – It’s after 4am in the morning and here is where we are at this stage of things. Father has sealed off the time barrier with Her AF. The Joint Command has not attacked the Azmon Barrier. They all seem to be happy to remain at Orion. All defecting angels have continued to leave their posts and go in that direction as more of them have made the decision to leave Father’s family. Michael is permitting the stragglers to leave without hindering them. It’s a free will decision on their parting to the JC’s side. We’re no longer calling them the LOZ because they are not worthy of that title, and not all LOZ members have deserted. It’s been a mixture from all Orders, including some holy ghosts.

Creating new angels is out of the question. Michael said that to bring new creations into a war would not be part of Father’s Way. It could even backfire and create more enemies against Father’s throne of authority. No more holy ghosts are being permitted the opportunity to join the ranks of the angelic class. There numbers are now low and they are still needed for their positions in the order of things that are still necessary to be done. As humans continue to pass over to the spirit realm a percentage will accept the truth and exhibit the right heart condition and the ranks will again grow. The converts are being kept on the detention side of the Azmon Barrier, and new ones are being escorted through to this side also.

Michael said Father’s strategy is for Her angelic class to fight the war on two fronts until the JC can be captured or killed.. Satan and his demons will remain on this side of the barrier, and the Joint Command that has fallen away will be kept at bay in the expanse until capture or death occurs for all of the deserters. There’s no real place for them to hide out that they will not eventually be found. The Command Posts that are under the seas and other places within the earth that have defectors will not be permitted to pass through the barrier to the expanse. They will either have to stay hid out, or assist Satan’s side. Whether they like it or not he is their new leader. We’re not presently sure who will assume command of the new demons making up the Joint Command out in the expanse. But all holy ghosts that have deserted will eventually be apprehended and escorted through the barrier.to the detention plane as converts.

The Orange Plane and all dark realms are under heavy guard to prevent any foreseeable attacks on them to free demons and/or human spirits.

Gabriel will command forces against the JC defectors out in the expanse. Seraiah will be in charge of all forces in the detention plane. The Cherubs will continue to do as they have all ways done. Apprehending criminals. Providing Shields, honor guards, and policing the demons and converts, and whatever else falls under their jurisdiction. Michael will remain at Mount Zion to coordinate both holy angelic armies actively engaged against both sides of the barrier of the enemies of Father’s throne. In the detention plane, the new war equipment will be used to war with. Outside in the expanse, Gabriel’s forces will fight the new demons with whatever it takes to subdue or kill them, and eventually transfer any prisoners into the detention plane. The LOZ that were stationed at the Port of Entry have been scaled down to a few dozen. The rest have been placed on duty at the Azmon Barrier. Father will continue to follow the Rules of War laid out and agreed to by both sides 6,000 years ago between Her forces and Satan’s, No more than 8 WFC’s will be permitted to assist the Cherubs, and only two per 8 hour cycle with a rotation every 8 hours. The divides will remain in place, and all demons will be proportioned in varying numbers per each divide as the area of encompassed space permits to avoid massive enemy concentrations. Satan will still be permitted the use of SZ’s as outlined within the rules so long as he follows the rules. Infractions will cost him SZ’s or a possible trip to the O.P. or execution of him or his GAC’s as each infraction is judged on its merit. No more demons will be reanimated, for the exception of Satan if he’s killed in battle or executed. This moratorium will remain in effect until Father decides otherwise.

That’s all I have for now children. Keep the faith and know that Father has things under Her control . And thank you for the help that was needed when the call went out for extra forces. Those of you that were able to participate did well in guarding the barrier. It made the deserters think twice about attacking. So far they have offed one destroyer angel that was sent to attack them, and a few Powers Order angels were offed that happened to get in their way near the barrier when they left again for Orion. Unfortunately they have the means to alter their energy poles. But that will eventually be remedied as they are captured or killed. Those of you that couldn’t project, that’s ok. Father knows your hearts were with Her side.

Casts & Visions – As Explained by Joseph, Holy Ghost

One of the things taught to holy ghosts is this. How to form casts. Now children this is not to be confused with casting a vision which is also taught to the consortium making up the holy ghost Orders. The difference is that visions are conjured by thought with a pictorial description of past events, future, and sometimes what is currently taking place. Whereas casts are formed, usually done so by many spirits acting in unison to form a complete uniform design that contains messages at a 360 degree circumference. Here is an example of two different messages by both methods. You see the Ark that Noah and his family received salvation in. Close examination reveals many spirits involved in making up the Ark’s cast. That is called “The cast effect.” Then you have a vision of the Ark. Only one spirit need be involved in this process to form the vision. It is called “The trance effect.” Now before I reveal more about my own past training in these two method, which incidentally humans not yet passed over have the ability to do “The trance effect” in their minds, because all that you think can be seen in the spirit realm in visual form. Over here it is called day dreaming. For instance, you see yourself on a yacht and sailing around the world in luxury That is a future trance vision of what you might like your future to be. Now let’s look at the two definitions before I reveal more.

conjure >verb (usu. conjure up) 1 cause to appear as if by magic. 2 call to the mind. 3 call upon (a spirit) to appear by magic. 4 archaic implore to do something.
-PHRASES a name to conjure with a name of great importance within a particular field.
-ORIGIN Latin conjurare ‘band together by an oath, conspire’.

The above is the process of conjuring thought into a manifested vision. It requires nothing more than thoughts directed to the individual or individuals they are meant for. It is therefore a conjured vision via the trance effect propagated by the spirit giving forth the vision.

propagate >verb 1 breed by natural processes from the parent stock. 2 promote (an idea, knowledge, etc.) widely. 3 transmit in a particular direction.
-DERIVATIVES propagation >noun.
-ORIGIN Latin propagare ‘multiply from layers or shoots’.

The spirit transmits the vision in a particular direction.

vision >noun 1 the faculty or state of being able to see. 2 the ability to think about the future with imagination or wisdom. 3 a mental image of what the future will or could be like. 4 an experience of seeing something in a dream or trance, or as a supernatural apparition. 5 the images seen on a television screen. 6 a person or sight of unusual beauty.
-ORIGIN Latin, from videre ‘to see’.

The vision is indeed the use of your mind’s faculty in trance state – because both sides of the coin, the SENDER and the RECEIVER are in some form of the trance state of mind for the phenomena to take place and be seen.

cast >verb (past and past part. cast) 1 throw forcefully or so as to spread over an area. 2 cause (light or shadow) to appear on a surface. 3 direct (one’s eyes or thoughts) towards something. 4 express: journalists cast doubt on this account. 5 register (a vote). 6 assign a part to (an actor) or allocate parts in (a play or film). 7 discard or shed. 8 throw the hooked and baited end of (a fishing line) out into the water. 9 shape (metal or other material) by pouring it into a mold while molten. 10 produce by casting: a figure cast in bronze. 11 arrange and present in a specified form or style. 12 cause (a magic spell) to take effect. 13 Hunting (of a dog) search around for a scent. >noun 1 the actors taking part in a play or film. 2 an object made by casting metal or other material. 3 (also plaster cast) a bandage stiffened with plaster of Paris, molded to support and protect a broken limb. 4 an act of casting. 5 form, appearance, or character: minds of a philosophical cast. 6 a slight squint.
-PHRASES be cast away be stranded after a shipwreck. be cast down feel depressed. cast about (or around or round) search far and wide. cast off 1 Knitting take the stitches off the needle by looping each over the next. 2 set a boat or ship free from its moorings. cast on Knitting make the first row of loops on the needle.
-ORIGIN Old Norse.

Among the things expressed in the above definition, “3 direct (one’s eyes or thoughts) towards something.” You’ve undoubtedly seen and felt this effect while viewing casts. Casts can come in many forms. It might be in pics, or vegetation, clouds, etc. As you are looking, your mind starts to see things that others might not be able to see. This is not because you are seeing matrix :0 but instead, your mind and eyes are being directed in unison to see what you are meant to see. Those that cannot comprehend this concept refer to it as “matrix.” That’s their loss, because they are missing out on the truth of the spirit realm and how it really works.

To Be Continued Next Week.

IRAN – Three people, including two children, have been killed and 40 others injured in an earthquake which struck Iran’s biggest desert, Dasht-e Kavir. The 5.9-magnitude quake struck south of the northern city of Damghan. Six villages near Damghan were damaged in the quake which was about 278km east of Tehran. The tremor was also felt in the capital Tehran.

JAPAN – The government has decided to map out a response plan for the possible occurrence of three massive, SIMULTANEOUS earthquakes in the nation. It plans to compile detailed estimates of possible damage from such an event and an outline of countermeasures. Of all the foreseeable earthquake scenarios that could take place in and around Japan, the most destructive would be the simultaneous occurrence of the so-called Tokai, Tonankai and Nankai earthquakes. These earthquakes are projected events of magnitude 8 or more on the Richter scale. Their seismic hypocenters would be located along the Nankai Trough, a submarine trough that stretches through the Tokai region and Shikoku.
If the three quakes were to occur simultaneously – it is predicted that the Tonankai earthquake would trigger the Tokai and Nankai quakes – as many as 25,000 people would be killed and 550,000 buildings destroyed across the nation. The Cabinet Office has for the first time requested more than 100 million yen for research expenses under the fiscal 2011 budget. The government plans to conduct the first drills based on a scenario of simultaneous earthquakes today, designated as Disaster Prevention Day. According to government estimates, the probability of the Tonankai earthquake occurring, and having enough power to trigger Tokai and Nankai quakes, in the next 10 years is 20 percent.

VOLCANOES –

INDONESIA was on red alert yesterday after the Sinabung volcano on the island of Sumatra erupted, spewing smoke and ash 1500 metres into the air and forcing the evacuation of at least 12,000 people. “Initially we thought the ash and smoke were triggered by rain but now we know the driving pressure was from magma. It’s clearly dangerous so we’ve raised the warning to the highest level, or red level.” Sinabung, in northern Sumatra, has not erupted for more than 400 years but had shown “some volcanic activity” since Friday.

PHILIPPINES – Taal shows increased activity but remains at lowest alert level.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded increased activity in Taal Volcano in Tagaytay, Batangas in the last 24 hours, but said an eruption is not expected soon. In a bulletin issued Friday, the Phivolcs said there were 20 volcanic earthquakes in the past day. From August 16-22, there were only 24 volcanic earthquakes monitored in the area. Despite the intensified seismic activity, Taal Volcano remains at alert level 1, the lowest alert level. “This means that hazardous eruption is not imminent.” Water temperature at the main crater lake was still at 34 C, the same as last week. Phivolcs said it has yet to update its report on ground deformation. The agency also noted that there has been no steaming activity in the area. Taal Volcano, a popular tourist destination in Batangas, is the nearest active volcano to Manila. Phivolcs placed the volcano on alert level 1 early this August, two months after the agency put the volcano on level 2 after a series of intense activities in the volcano area were recorded. The government had to put several towns surrounding the volcano on alert in case of eruption. It has declared the entire volcano island a permanent danger zone.

RUSSIA – The Klyuchevsky volcano in the Russian Far East has sent a plume of smoke and ash billowing 1 km up into the sky and hot lava streaming down its southwestern slope. More than 100 small quakes have been registered on and around Eurasia’s biggest active volcano. The volcano usually erupts once every five or six years. Two other nearby volcanoes – Shiveluch and Karymsky – are also active.

INDONESIA – The mud eruptions in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara that started last June in Sulamu Subdistrict have now contaminated one of the main source of clean water in the region, the Noekiboko River. Cold mud from the eruption has swamped into the river, the only source of drink water and irrigation water for Sulamu residents.

Eruptions from eight points in Sulamu Scering are said have formed at least two mudlakes about 4 – 6 meters deep, which residents feared would expand and swamp their homes. Some cattle have been drowned in the mudlakes.

There were previously seven eruption points located in an elevated area within Pantai Beringin Village, which recently became eight as the newest point of eruption emerged on a transregional road connecting the area with Oecusse District which now disrupting traffic at the particular section.

INDONESIA – Mount Sinabung volcano on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has erupted again, sending ash and smoke several kilometres into the atmosphere. The volcano erupted again early on Monday, spewing black ash and soot two kilometres (1.24 miles) into the air. The eruption was bigger than Sunday’s and has affected some local flights. Domestic flights that were due to fly over the volcano have been suspended until further notice. Meanwhile, relief workers are now providing shelter and medical aid to the villagers who have been affected by the volcano’s eruptions. The majority of villagers within a 6km (3.7 miles) radius of Mount Sinabung have been evacuated. More than 18,000 people are now living in camps and government shelters. Workers say that the immediate danger the villagers face is respiratory problems. Thousands of face masks have been handed out to protect them from the thick ash and smoke that has permeated the atmosphere.

Are volcanic eruptions on the rise? – Not according to the director of the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program. Charged with documenting, analyzing and disseminating information about Earth’s active volcanoes, the GVP boasts 40 years of data to indicate it’s business as usual under the crust. “If you plot data from the last 200 years, there’s a clear increase in the number of eruptions over time, but that’s not a function of the actual number of eruptions but rather due to reporting effects.”

Specifically, the GVP found that the increase in volcanic eruptions paralleled the rise in global population. It paralleled human encroachment of volcanic areas and improvements in communication technologies. Think of it as the “if a tree falls in the forest” effect. With more people around, and better technology, it became harder for a volcanic eruption to go unnoticed. Observation bias aside, global volcanism has remained steady throughout recorded history. You have to view the planet from a geologic perspective, spanning millions and billions of years, to glimpse any major changes – or pinpoint an eruption higher than a seven on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. “Those are the Yellowstone-type eruptions, sometimes referred to as ‘supervolcanoes. None of those have occurred in historical time.”

So what typically causes global volcanism to increase? Nothing short of titanic movements in the planet’s crust.

“The tectonic plates are driving volcanism for the most part. And over geologic time, those processes are turning on and off. Subduction zones begin and end. Hot spots are generated and thrive for millions of years and then just stop. So as a result of those effects, you get increased volcanism or decreased volcanism in certain areas and even globally.” The formation and melting of glacier ice can also theoretically affect volcanism. But to find a possible example of this you’ll have to look back to the beginning of the Holocene epoch 10,000 years ago. Still, the relationship between melting glacier ice and increased volcanism is far from cut-and-dry. “It’s a lot more complicated because ice is melting in one place, and the water is going somewhere else. So you might have a decrease in pressure in the northern latitudes as a result of ice melting, but you also might have an increase in the ocean depths in the south that might keep magma from erupting. And even then, it’s not a simple relationship between increased pressure and decreased volcanism.” Several other factors also influence the planet’s volcanism, some of which scientists don’t fully understand. So while a few studies predict future climate change may generate a rebound effect, climate typically plays an indirect role. “Volcanism typically influences climate, not the other way around.”

COLUMBIA – Galeras Volcano erupted last Wednesday, forcing authorities to order the evacuation of thousands, but only a few residents trickled from nearby villages to shelters. Seated in Colombia’s Andes near the frontier with Ecuador, Galeras coughed ash over neighboring towns. Authorities reported no injuries or damage after the latest eruption. Around 8,000 people live in risky areas, but often refuse to leave because they are used to frequent activity at the volcano and fear their homes will be ransacked. The volcano erupted ten times last year, mostly with little impact on surrounding areas. In previous eruptions, local residents reported large columns of smoke billowing over the volcano and towns have been covered with layers of ash. The National Geological Institute said it would keep monitoring the volcano’s activity before deciding whether to lift the warning it issued after the dawn eruption. “The ash has slowed though it is still coming out,. The area is normal except for the areas where ash hit earlier in the day.” The nearest large town, Pasto, has a population of 400,000 but is away from the area considered at risk from an eruption of Galeras.

INDONESIA – Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra appears to be calming down. Approximately 29,000 people have been evacuated from around the erupting volcano.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – A volcano in Virunga National Park in the Congo has erupted. The volcano sent lava toward a national park, threatening wildlife in the sparsely populated region. Scientists recorded significant increased volcanic activity around Goma in the east of the country. Half of the city was destroyed in 2002 after the nearest of two volcanoes, Mount Nyiragongo, erupted.

TROPICAL STORMS –

Tropical Storm Earl barreled towards the eastern fringe of the Caribbean Saturday, threatening to gain hurricane status, as Hurricane Danielle weakened far from land in the Atlantic. Earl could become a hurricane as early as this afternoon.

The eye of the storm was located about 660 miles (1,060 km) east of the Northern Leeward Islands – which it was expected to approach today – heading west at 23 miles (37 km) per hour. A tropical storm watch was already in effect for several eastern Caribbean islands including Saint Martin, Antigua, Barbuda and Montserrat. Earl was forecast to make a turn to the west-northwest and decrease somewhat in forward speed over the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, east of Bermuda, Hurricane Danielle weakened to a Category Two storm and headed north-northeast, far from land. It was expected to pass well east of Bermuda later Saturday. The weather system was still producing sustained winds of 110 miles (175 kilometers) per hour and gradual weakening is expected to commence today.

Danielle was a Category Four storm on Friday, but its passage has tracked far away from land. Still, the NHC warned that tropical storm-force winds could hit Bermuda later Saturday, with ripple effects on the US east coast. “Large waves and dangerous surf conditions will affect Bermuda over the next few days. “Swells from Danielle will begin to arrive on the east coast of the United States later today. These swells are likely to cause dangerous rip currents through the weekend.”

Forecasters were also closely watching a low pressure system “associated with a vigorous tropical wave” that was located about 350 miles (560 km) west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde islands and could likely form a tropical depression later Saturday or today. Forecasters said there was an 80 percent chance the system would form a tropical cyclone by Monday afternoon.

Extreme autumn weather to hit Norway – A leading climate researcher has warned that the hurricane system in the Atlantic Ocean could cause extreme weather conditions in Norway this autumn. “We expect heavy rain will fall in a short time when the tail end hits our coast, giving up to 100 millimetres in a day.” The system is currently on its way eastwards but is expected to change towards the north-east sometime soon. Norway has seen a 20 percent increase in the amount of rain in the last 100 years.

JAPAN – Okinawa entered Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness-3 at 10 a.m. Sunday, as Tropical Storm 08W formed overnight Saturday and began rumbling toward the island. Kadena Air Base’s 18th Wing Weather Flight forecasts call for the worst to hit on Tuesday, with destructive 58-mph winds or greater starting around 3 a.m. with sustained 58-mph winds and 80-mph gusts occuring between 6 and 9 a.m. 08W is forecast to track 16 miles south of Kadena at 2 a.m Tuesday, which means the island will likely get the east and southeast quadrants of the storm – generally the worst ones because they contain the more nasty stuff. Sustained 58-mph winds and 80-mph gusts forecast for between 1 and 6 a.m. Tuesday, with between 3 to 5 inches of rain. Okinawa has not entered TCCOR 1-E since July 13, 2007, when Typhoon Man-yi belted the island with 100 mph-plus winds and heavy rain.

Hurricane Earl, churning toward the Caribbean, has intensified and reached Category Two strength. “Further strengthening is forecast … and Earl is expected to become a major hurricane by late Monday.” The centre of Earl was currently located 80km east northeast of Barbuda, moving west northwest at 24km/ph.

Forecast to gain “major” Category 3 status, outer rainbands association with a strengthening Hurricane Earl were affecting the islands of Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday.

Even five years after Hurricane Katrina, the names of hundreds of the dead remain a mystery and the death toll is mired in dispute. Of an estimated 1,464 victims officially recognized by the state of Louisiana, more than 500 names have not been publicly released. And Louisiana’s once-ambitious efforts to tackle dozens of related cases of missing persons and unidentified bodies ran out of money in 2006 and has never been revived. DNA, X-rays and other technology mean that identification remains possible years from now if additional remains get found or family members of the missing submit evidence that gets linked to the nameless. Yet no state or federal agency today keeps track of those who remain missing from Katrina – or have since been confirmed dead. There is no central place for scattered surviving families to call. In New Orleans, 31 unidentified victims’ bodies were buried in a $1.5 million monument in 2008. None has been identified since then.

Hundreds of victims of the nation’s most deadly modern natural disaster remain anonymous for unknown reasons. Many were elderly and poor. Around 64 percent of the storm victims were older than 65. Most came from New Orleans Parish. The dead were racially diverse: 56 percent black; 40 percent white; 4 percent Asian; 4 percent Native American and 2 percent Hispanic. “We present that a lesson learned is about those left behind due to lack of physical or financial means.”

A Columbia University professor estimates the true death toll will top 3,500 if those killed by the storm and by its many after-effects are accurately tallied. And yet other counts put the toll at an estimated 1,800. “This is a mass fatality event – one that is more common in the Third World. To find another one as large in the U.S. in terms of the people who died – you have to go back to 1900 to the Galveston flood when there was no (National Weather Service), there was no Internet … and there were no automobiles. Why on earth did so many people die in 2005? The injustice of it is just amazing.”

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – In the midst of hurricane Earl, the Governor on Monday (August 30) evening said that officials will not take down their guard as hurricane Earl passes through the BVI. The Governor was at the time preparing for a meeting in preparation for Tropical Storm Fiona which is expected to reach the BVI within the next 48 hours.

“We are just about to meet now and have a further discussion and to see what our steps are, and what we will do tomorrow (Tuesday). But we have been getting indications of a further storm on the heels of Earl. Its tropical storm Fiona and that is moving on a broadly similar course to Earl and it could be with us here in the next 40 to 48 hours.”

This, the Governor lamented is worrying, “We are at level four at the moment and might reduce to that over the next few hours, but with Fiona around the corner we certainly want to keep that under constant review.” Level five would be when there is no warning, for example in the event of an earthquake, while for an impacting hurricane , “we would be at the level four because remember you would have had a warning…So it´s really the highest level for hurricane impact.” Fiona is moving toward the west near 24 mph and a turn toward the west-northwest is expected on Tuesday followed by a turn toward the northwest and a decrease in forward speed on Wednesday. On This track Fiona could be near or just to the northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands by early Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles to the northeast of the center. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 MB.

Tropical storm Kompasu strengthened to a typhoon as it approached Okinawa, while another storm is forecast to intensify off China’s southern coast. Kompasu, the eighth storm of the northwest Pacific season, was 528 kilometers southeast of Naha in Okinawa. Kompasu had sustained winds of 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour and is forecast to cross the main island of Okinawa today.

About 1,500 kilometers west of Kompasu, Tropical Storm Lionrock is forecast to strengthen as it approaches China’s southern coast. Lionrock, the seventh storm of the season, was 256 kilometers south of the city of Shantou in southeastern China. Lionrock has maximum sustained winds of 83 kilometers per hour and was moving northeast at 4 kph. The storm’s winds are forecast to strengthen to 102 kph today and Lionrock may cross the coast near Shantou on Sept. 1. The storm may bring more heavy rain to China, where thousands of people have died in floods and mudslides as downpours inundated many parts of the country.

Namtheun – Taiwan officials issued land and sea warnings on Tuesday for a severe tropical storm, the island’s first this year, with heavy rain and wind gusts up to 90 kph (60 mph) expected before it heads to China. Although the storm falls one level short of a full-blown typhoon, Taiwan authorities are especially on guard after the island’s worst typhoon in 50 years, also forecast as a relatively weak storm, killed about 700 people in August 2009. That prompted a cabinet reshuffle as citizens accused the government of reacting too slowly.

The storm dubbed Namtheun, centred 50 km (31 miles) north of Taiwan at 2015 GMT, was expected to reach northern areas of the island by early Wednesday with sustained winds up to 65 kph. Namtheun will pass over the capital Taipei and the island’s major northern port city Keelung. The weather bureau warned of mudslides, rockfalls and sudden swelling of rivers. The storm could grow to a category 1 typhoon, the mildest on a 1-5 scale, and reach the coast of southeast China. Typhoons regularly hit China, Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan in the second half of the year, gathering strength from the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean or South China Sea.

Hurricane Earl is heading for the US east coast after causing power cuts and heavy rain across the eastern Caribbean. The category-four storm is generating sustained winds of 215km/h (135mph). A hurricane watch has been issued for most of the North Carolina coastline just ahead of the Labor Day weekend. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has warned people along the eastern seaboard to prepare for evacuations.

On Tuesday, Earl kept east of the Turks and Caicos Islands, where a tropical storm warning had been issued.

It was too early to tell how close it might come to land in the U.S., but they expect Earl to bring high winds and heavy rains to North Carolina’s Outer Banks by late Thursday or early Friday even if it stays offshore. The hurricane could then travel up the coast on the following days, affecting coastal regions from the Carolinas all the way north to Maine and wrecking the plans of holiday makers who like to spend the Labor Day holiday weekend at the beach. The hurricane would be capable of causing storm surges and “catastrophic” damage if it hits land.
Earl is being closely followed by Tropical Storm Fiona, currently east of the Leeward Isles with winds of up to 65km/h.

Hurricane Earl forecast: Storm increasingly likely for New York – While the storm’s final path is still far from certain, the tri-state could possibly see a major storm make landfall this week – something that hasn’t happened in a decade. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Hurricane Earl was spinning furiously near the Turks and Caicos Islands with sustained winds of 135 mph after rapidly intensifying yesterday from a Category 1 to a Category 4 hurricane. Hurricane watches have also been posted for coastal North Carolina.

Over the next 48 hours, the hurricane will traverse the warm waters of the Gulf stream before a likely landfall on North Carolina’s Outer Banks sometime Thursday as a Category 3. That said, any westward deviation could spell trouble down the line for Greater New York, which hasn’t experienced a direct storm hit since Hurricane Gloria struck the region in 1985. Updated computer weather models released Tuesday evening continue to shift the future track of Earl westward, closer and closer towards the East Coast. While the official track from the National Hurricane Center remains slightly offshore, taking the recent westward shift into account and the 150-200 mile historical error for a 3-4 day forecast means pretty much everyone on the East Coast bears some risk of a direct landfall.

As Earl crosses the Gulf stream today, it could briefly reach category 5 status. Thanks to the RECORD high temperatures on the eastern seaboard this summer, the ocean waters are especially warm — ideal fuel for a strengthening storm. Expect severe beach erosion, significant waves and a storm surge of up to ten feet, even if Earl’s center technically stays offshore. There were two confirmed fatalities over the weekend from rip currents and drownings caused by ex-hurricane Danielle, which passed more than 1,000 miles away. The conditions this weekend will likely be far worse. In the unlikely event a that Hurricane Earl hits Greater New York at Category 3 strength, here’s what is expected: Strong winds, downed trees and power lines, dangerous rip currents and extensive flooding. In 2005, the New York Press outlined what a worst-case scenario might look like. It’s not pretty.

US President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration for North Carolina Wednesday as evacuation orders were issued for Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands, in the path of “large and dangerous” Hurricane Earl. North Carolina’s Dare County ordered the evacuation of about 30,000 people on the Outer Banks islands. Most were tourists as the islands only have about 4800 permanent residents. “People living in vulnerable areas, such as storm-surge zones, flood plains, mobile homes and camper or RV parks, should evacuate now. If Hurricane Earl worsens, additional people may be ordered to evacuate. Residents living in an area that does not seem safe should leave that area now, even if an evacuation has not yet been ordered. Your safety could be in jeopardy. Residents who are told to evacuate must do so immediately. Hurricane Earl is expected to pass east of the Bahamas tonight and continue its path toward the North Carolina coast on Thursday (local time).”

The storm’s eye will approach the North Carolina coast late today and will move near or over the Outer Banks tonight. “Earl is a large hurricane. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 150km from the centre and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 325km. A dangerous storm surge will raise water levels by as much as 1-1.5 m above ground level within the hurricane warning area and the lower Chesapeake Bay. Large swells from Earl will continue to affect the Bahamas and the east coast of the US through Friday. These swells will likely cause dangerous surf conditions and RIP currents.”

Meanwhile a tropical storm watch was in effect for Sandy Hook to Woods Hole, Massachussetts including Block Island and Long Island Sound. There have been fears the conditions may cause trouble over the Labor Day weekend. Suffolk County officials had mentioned the possibility of evacuating Fire Island, one of Long Island’s south shore outer barrier islands, but decided not to take that step. Suffolk County acknowledged that the storm was a concern, but said the hurricane’s current path made it look as if it would stay to the west. “It doesn’t look like we’re going to get hit head on. Really, I think we’re all just wondering how close it’s going to get.”

50-50 chance that Hurricane Earl will make landfall at Nova Scotia, Canada on Saturday. Environment Canada officials said the most likely storm track has Earl hitting Yarmouth in a couple of days. They stressed, however, that the storm is still 2½ to three days away, and the forecast could change again. The storm could bring sustained winds of 140 km/h at landfall.

The storm will mean rough weather for all three Maritime provinces. Earl will likely hit Nova Scotia as either a strong tropical storm or a Category 1 hurricane, and the province will likely bear the brunt of the strongest winds, on the eastern side of the storm. New Brunswick will likely experience the most rain, on the western side of the storm.

The chances of the storm hitting New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island at hurricane strength are at 10 to 20 per cent. Newfoundland and Labrador, meanwhile, would get off relatively easily in the current forecast. The storm could be affected by the warm weather currently hitting Atlantic Canada. Earl is “moving into an environment similar to where it formed.” Sea surface temperatures, which can fuel a storm as they rise, are running warmer than average, and are about 2 C warmer than when Hurricane Juan hit Nova Scotia in 2003. Juan smashed though Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, leaving seven people dead and causing at least $100 million in damage. Earl was downgraded to a Category 3 storm early Wednesday, but it’s still a “large hurricane.”

CHINA – One cyclone fizzles, but a second floods streets. The weather authority warn on Tuesday night of strong rain and gales so severe that officials canceled the first day of school – but surprise: Typhoon Kompasu ran well past Shanghai, causing barely a ruffle to the downtown morning weather.Weather officials explained their missed forecast by saying that the recent batch of cyclones – with three coming all at once – was TOO PECULIAR TO PREDICT. Forecasters had predicted Kompasu wouldn’t hit Shanghai directly, but would come close enough to bring the city heavy winds and rains. As it turned out, Kompasu came no closer than 300 kilometers from the city.

The bureau had predicted three routes that the typhoon Kompasu might take as it neared Shanghai, and it finally took the east one, the farthest from the city, rather than the middle one as forecast. “The set of three tropical storms, Lion Rock, Namtheum and Kompasu, was UNIQUE and it was hard to predict their further route.” The dying-out of Namtheum, the middle of the three recently formed storms, and the sudden fading of a subtropical high caused Kompasu to diverge east. “I had observed three storms before, but not like these in my career over 20 years. The distance among the three storms was very close and the interaction was frequent. And the size of each of the three was not big, which made them easily affected by the other two.” As Kompasu veered away from the Shanghai region on its ocean course, it intensified into a severe typhoon, but weakened back to a typhoon at about 7pm as it arrived in the Yellow Sea and headed toward the Korean Peninsula.

Typhoon Kompasu – Three people were killed after Tropical Storm Kompasu came ashore in South Korea, lashing Seoul with rain and strong winds that knocked out power, forced flight cancellations and delayed the opening of schools. Kompasu, which weakened from a typhoon as it approached land, passed near Seoul earlier today before crossing the Korean peninsula and heading out to sea toward Japan.

“Four big glass windows are lying inside my living room after the pounding from the wind all night,” said a an who lives on the 25th floor of an apartment building near Seoul. “I felt like I was dying this morning as I tried to stop them blowing in with my hands. It was so scary.” Debris littered the streets of the South Korean capital. Kompasu’s winds slowed after the storm reached land and they were blowing at 72 kilometers per hour, down from 176 kph overnight. Kompasu caused heavy rain and windstorms over North Korea. As much as 165 millimeters (6.5 inches) of rain fell in some parts of the country earlier today as winds as high as 65 kph buffeted the country.

Tropical storm Lionrock, the eighth of this year, made landfall on east China’s Fujian Province early this morning. Lionrock skirted southwest Taiwan as it approached the China coast. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Chinese authorities had evacuated about 160,000 people in Fujian province. Landslides may be triggered by the storm.

Hurricane Earl swipes US east, but no big hit – Hurricane Earl slapped North Carolina’s coast with rain, winds and heavy surf on Friday and swirled up the US eastern seaboard toward New England and Canada as a weakened Category 2 but still potent storm.

HEAVY RAINS / FLOODING / LANDSLIDES / UNUSUAL & OUT-OF-SEASON WEATHER –

Fears for Pakistani town after new flood levee breaches – Officials in southern Pakistan are battling to save the town of Thatta, where the raging Indus river has breached more of its levees. Tens of thousands of people have fled the town in the past few days and some outlying districts were reported to already be under water. The town in Sindh province is now all but abandoned, reports say. The massive floods in Pakistan have lasted for more than a month, leaving 8m people in need of emergency relief.

A local official in Thatta said it could take up to three days to repair the breaches. But even if they can be repaired, the thousands who have fled their homes are now without shelter. As the waters start to recede in the north of the country, the full extent of the damage has begun to emerge.

The Indus river in the south has swollen to 40 times its usual capacity. More than seven million people have now been displaced in southern Sindh province – one million in the past few days alone. Out of the 23 districts in the province, 19 have so far been badly affected by the floods. Across the country, some 17 million people have been affected.

Flood victims in Sindh have complained that not enough help is arriving. Survivors have blocked roads demanding more aid from the government. The relief commissioner of Sindh has appealed for more help to deal with the crisis, saying some 2.3 million people had still received no food or emergency shelter. “The magnitude of this catastrophe is so huge that the government cannot cope with it alone. We are trying to grapple it, but we need international support.”

Health officials say there is also a growing risk of disease and malnutrition among the millions of displaced people, most of whom have little or no access to clean water, sanitation and food supplies. “If nothing is done, an estimated 72,000 children, currently affected by severe acute malnutrition in the flood-affected areas, are at high risk of death.”

The monsoon floods started in the mountainous north and have steadily surged south, destroying 1.2m homes and damaging 3.2m hectares (7.9m acres) of farmland – about 14% of Pakistan’s land under cultivation. The Pakistani government has so far confirmed that 1,600 people have been killed.

Twelve dead in northern Turkey landslides after torrential rain. At least one other person is reported to be missing after rains which began on Thursday triggered landslides in the town of Gundogdu in the Black Sea province of Rize. Emergency crews have evacuated dozens of people who were trapped in their homes. Buildings, homes and vehicles were buried and communications were cut across the affected area. Several roads were shut down. Many residents had been eating when the landslides hit, after fasting all day as part of Ramadan.

PAKISTAN town submerged amid fight to rebuild levees. Sujawal, a town of some 250,000 people, has been totally submerged while people battle to save the nearby city of Thatta which is being used as a key staging post for flood relief workers. Authorities are still trying to rebuild levees around Thatta against the raging Indus river. But water is still advancing on the all-but-abandoned city. “We fled so hastily that we could not even pick up our belongings. We are sitting in this graveyard under the blazing sun, looking for shade here and there. We have nothing to eat. The floodwater swept away our cows and buffalo.”

Pakistan will face devastating problems in the future, unless flood reconstruction efforts begin immediately. A month after the floods began, the effort is still focused on the first stage of relief, rescuing and evacuating people. But farmers have only a small window in which to plant the next harvest’s crops, and that is fast closing, raising fears of future hunger. “Pakistan doesn’t have the luxury of waiting for the emergency phase to be over before starting the reconstruction.” The massive floods have left some 8 million people in need of emergency relief. Four weeks since the flooding began, the scale of this humanitarian crisis is still growing. And on the ground, the amount of aid available is a long way from meeting the need. Across the country, some 17 million people have been affected. “Every day we hear that new areas are affected. ‘

Allegations that rich landowners diverted water into unprotected villages during the floods to save their own crops. – There is evidence that landowners allowed embankments to burst. This led to waters flowing away from their land. “Over the years, one has seen with the lack of floods, those areas normally set aside for floods have come under irrigation of the powerful and rich. It is suggested in some areas, those to be protected were allowed, had allowed, levies to be burst on opposite sides to take the water away. If that is happening the government should be enquiring.” More than 1,600 people have died in the floods, which have affected about 17 million people. At the height of the floods, it is estimated that one-fifth of the country – an area the size of Italy – was underwater. The flood waters are beginning to drain away to the Arabian Sea but inundations continue in parts of Sindh province.

SUDAN – South Sudan’s Aweil region swamped by floods Some 57,000 people have been forced from their homes because of dramatic floods in south-western Sudan over the past month. Heavy rains have left Aweil, the main town of Northern Bahr al-Ghazal province, largely under water. The floods add to the woes of a grossly under-developed region still struggling to rebuild itself after the brutal two-decade war with the north. “The rains are going to continue up until October, so the situation may get worse. A serious situation has developed in Aweil – more than three quarters of the town is flooded and so many houses collapsed. We saw that all the people were chased out of their houses, and were now living on the road, because the road is the only area in the town that is raised.” The United Nations has already provided some kind of food assistance to almost half the population of the south this year.

India’s red rain contains life not seen on Earth – Cells from India’s red rain of 2001 multiply under extreme heat – and they don’t contain DNA. Which means alien life may already exist on Earth – us. There’s an idea – common, but not popular in scientific circles – that all life on Earth was seeded from comets, asteroids or meteors which stuck the planet and contained the building blocks necessary to kickstart the evolutionary process. It’s called “panspermia” and it’s been proven that life can survive in space.
In July 2001, the rain turned red in India. And not just red – there were reports of yellow, green and black rain in the months that followed. One of the first theories to emerge was that it was simply sand or dust picked up from a desert, but a local physicist found that under a microscope, the water contained cells that looked like bugs. Five years later, he published a theory suggesting the bugs that turned the rain red in India may have come from a comet that exploded above the Earth and seeded clouds.

Today, after a further four years of studying the cells, joined by a leading panspermia theorist from the UK, a professor has published claims that they are unlike anything found on Earth. He says the cells – inert at room temperature – begin to reproduce at 121C. While many spores on Earth can survive that kind of extreme heat, none have yet been discovered that can reproduce in those conditions, much less require it to begin reproducing. The team also found an UNUSUAL PATTERN in the way the cells changed colour under UV light, known as “fluorescence behaviour”. They said it was “in remarkable correspondence” with red emissions from the Red Rectangle planetary nebula some 2300 light years away, “suggesting, though not proving, an extraterrestrial origin”.

While the panspermia angle is already being rejected by the scientific community at large, there’s plenty of interest in the final finding of the team – the cells contain no DNA. “As a biologist, let me assure you that a cell-sized and shaped organism that reproduces, lives off LB and doesn’t appear to have any nucleic acid template (DNA or RNA) is a revolutionary discovery in and of itself.” The only lifeforms that occur or Earth without DNA, according to another commentor, are proteins known as “prions”, best known on Earth as the cause of Mad Cow Disease. The team’s findings are yet to be verified.

AUSTRALIA – THE BIGGEST STORM IN 15 YEARS is expected to hit Victoria tomorrow. Emergency services are braced for chaos.

There have been reports of a sinkhole opening up and a woman has been struck by lightning and as storms hit South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula and Gawler region this morning. Thunderstorms and torrential rain have caused flooding on Eyre Peninsula and in Gawler. Kimba has received 40mm of rain since 9am and there are reports Kimba Area School, a road house and up to six houses in the town have been flooded. The State Emergency Service reports local roads in the area are impassable because of flooding. Heavy rain may also be responsible for a “sink hole” developing in the car park of the Coles Supermarket at Port Lincoln. Gawler has been hit by more than 24mm of rain since 9am this morning.

OIL SPILL –

An offshore oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of Deepwater Horizon blast that caused a massive oil spill. The blast was reported by a commercial helicopter company early today. Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site, about 130km south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast. It hasn’t been determined whether the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig or whether workers were aboard. Smoke was reported but it is unclear whether the rig is still burning.

Update – Company and federal records show it appears to be producing natural gas, not oil.

EXTREME HEAT / WILDFIRES / DROUGHT / CLIMATE CHANGE-

JAPAN – Heatstroke has killed 158 people since late May, while 46,728 others were treated in hospitals during the same period. Between Aug. 23 and Sunday, 5,358 people were treated at hospitals for heatstroke, and 13 died. During the one-week period, those taken to hospitals for emergency treatment declined by about 4,000 from the preceding week. There were also three fewer deaths.

There were four extremely hot days in the Aug. 23-29 period on which the mercury rose to 35 C or higher at about 100 of 921 observation points nationwide. Such temperatures were recorded at more than 100 sites every day of the previous week. Since Aug. 1, 26,616 people have been taken to hospitals by ambulance due to heatstroke, and 61 have died. The number of such patients was four times higher than in August last year and deaths have risen 7.6-fold. Temperatures this summer have tended to remain high due to low rainfall and the effects of high-pressure systems over the Pacific Ocean. The nation has sweltered under many more tropical nights than last year. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency has continued to warn people of high temperatures, as little relief is predicted for September.

The Amazon is at ITS LOWEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN 40 YEARS near its source in northeastern Peru, causing havoc in a region where it is used as the only form of travel. The Amazon yesterday in the northeast city of Iquitos fell to 105.97 metres above sea level, 50cm lower than it was in 2005, so far the lowest reference point in four decades. Low levels have brought economic havoc in areas of Peru that depend on the Amazon for shipping, by denying boats a navigable river as well as usable ports and harbours. At least six boats became stranded for lack of river flow over the past three weeks and several shipping companies have been forced to suspend service. River trips between Iquitos and other Amazon towns that normally take around 12 to 15 days now last twice as long.

According to the national meteorological service, the level drop – which is forecast to slide another 20cm until mid-September – has been caused by a lack of rain and high temperatures in the region. The Amazon is the second-longest river in the world, after the Nile, but discharges far more water at its mouth than any other. It also drains more territory than any other, from Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and Venezuela before running across Brazil and into the Atlantic.

AUSTRALIA – The first bugs of THE WORST LOCUST PLAGUE IN A GENERATION are now crawling on the land. And NSW farmers are being urged to report the hatchings, and treat them on the ground before they wreak havoc by taking to the skies. If 100 hectares of locust bands were not effectively controlled they might develop into “1,000 hectares of adult swarms. Once locusts take to the wing they can migrate up to 600 kilometres or more in a single night.”
“The first plague of locust nymphs have hatched from winter dormancy, signalling the start to what is predicted to be the worst plague locust outbreak in NSW in 30 years. Warmer weather over the weekend led to an increase in ground temperature, which is a trigger for locust eggs to hatch. It’s now gloves off.”

RUSSIA – Five people died in southern Russia after new forest fires broke out.

SPACE NEWS-

Last week NASA was warning that the massive flare that caused spectacular light shows on Earth earlier this month was just a precursor to a massive solar storm building that had the potential to wipe out the entire planet’s power grid. NASA has since rebutted those reports, saying it could come “100 years away or just 100 days”, but an Australian astronomer says the space community is betting on the sooner scenario rather than the latter. Despite its rebuttal, NASA’s been watching out for this storm since 2006 and reports from the US claim the storms could hit on that most Hollywood of disaster dates – 2012.

Similar storms back in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos, wiping out telegraph wires on a massive scale. The 2012 storm has the potential to be even more disruptive. “The general consensus among general astronomers (and certainly solar astronomers) is that this coming Solar maximum (2012 but possibly later into 2013) will be the most violent in 100 years. A bold statement and one taken seriously by those it will affect most, namely airline companies, communications companies and anyone working with modern GPS systems. They can even trip circuit breakers and knock out orbiting satellites, as has already been done this year.” Regardless, it doesn’t matter if the next Solar Max isn’t the worst in history, or even as bad as the 1859 storms. It’s a fact that there hasn’t been one since the mid-80s. No one really knows what effect the 2012-2013 Solar Max will have on today’s digital-reliant society.

The super storm would hit like “a bolt of lightning”, causing catastrophic consequences for the world’s health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken. US government officials earlier this year took part in a “tabletop exercise” in Boulder, Colorado, to map out what might happen if the Earth was hit with a storm as intense as the 1859 and 1921 storms. The 1859 storm was of a similar size to that predicted by NASA to hit within the next three years – one of decreased activity, but more powerful eruptions. NASA said that a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences found that if a similar storm occurred today, it could cause “$1 to 2 trillion in damages to society’s high-tech infrastructure and require four to 10 years for complete recovery”. Satellites will be aged by 50 years, rendering GPS even more useless than ever, and the blast will have the equivalent energy of 100 million hydrogen bombs.

All the alarming news building around the event is being fuelled by two things. The first is a book by disaster expert Lawrence E. Joseph, Guilty of Apocalypse: The Case Against 2012, in which he claims the “Hurricane Katrina for the Earth” may cause unprecedented planetwide upheaval. The second is a theory that claims sunspots travel through the sun on a “conveyor belt” similar to the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt which controls weather on Earth. The belt carries magnetic fields through the sun. When they hit the surface, they explode as sunspots. Weakened, they then travel back through the sun’s core to recharge. It all happens on a rough 40-50-year cycle, according to solar physicist David Hathaway of the National Space Science and Technology Center in the US. He says when the belt speeds up, lots of magnetic fields are collected, which points to more intense future activity. “The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996. Old magnetic fields swept up then should reappear as big sunspots in 2010-2011.” Most experts agree. “We know it is coming but we don’t know how bad it is going to be. Systems will just not work. The flares change the magnetic field on the Earth and it’s rapid, just like a lightning bolt.”

Double meteorite strike ’caused dinosaur extinction’ – The dinosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago by at least two meteorite impacts, rather than a single strike, a new study suggests. Previously, scientists had identified a huge impact crater in the Gulf of Mexico [Chicxulub] as the event that spelled doom for the dinosaurs. Now evidence for a second impact in Ukraine has been uncovered. This raises the possibility that the Earth may have been bombarded by a whole shower of meteorites.

The Boltysh Crater in Ukraine was first reported in 2002. However, until now it was uncertain exactly how the timing of this event related to the Chicxulub impact. In the current study, scientists examined the “pollen and spores” of fossil plants in the layers of mud that infilled the crater. They found that immediately after the impact, ferns quickly colonised the devastated landscape. Ferns have an amazing ability to bounce back after catastrophe. However, there was an unexpected discovery in store for the scientists. They located a second “fern spike” in a layer one metre above the first, suggesting another later impact event. “We interpret this second layer as the aftermath of the Chicxulub impact.” This shows that the Boltysh and Chicxulub impacts did not happen at exactly the same time. They struck several thousand years apart, the length of time between the two “fern spikes”.

“It is quite possible that in the future we will find evidence for more impact events.” Rather than being wiped out by a single hit, the researchers think that dinosaurs may have fallen victim to a meteorite shower raining down over thousands of years. What might have caused this bombardment is highly uncertain. “One possibility might be the collison of Near Earth Objects.” Recently, Nasa launched a program dubbed “Spaceguard”. It aims to monitor such Near Earth Objects as an early warning system of possible future collisons.

HEALTH THREATS –

Europe probes swine flu jab, sleep disorder link – The European Medicines Agency is investigating a possible link between the Pandemrix swine flu vaccine and the sleeping disorder narcolepsy amid concerns in Finland and Sweden. “The European Medicines Agency has launched a review of Pandemrix on the request of the European Commission to investigate whether there is a link between cases of narcolepsy and vaccination with Pandemrix. A limited number of cases was reported, all collected through spontaneous reporting systems, mainly in Sweden and Finland.”
Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare on Tuesday recommended halting the use of Pandemrix until a probe into a possible link to narcolepsy among children is concluded. Last week, neighbouring Sweden’s Medical Products Agency also opened an inquiry into the Pandemrix vaccine following reports of young people having developed symptoms consistent with narcolepsy after getting their shot. Narcolepsy is a condition in which sufferers suddenly fall into a deep sleep. “Its precise cause is unknown, but it is generally considered to be triggered by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including infections.” Pandemrix – produced by British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline – has been used since September 2009 to vaccinate at least 30.8 million Europeans against H1N1 influenza.

West Nile infections raise preparedness concerns in Europe – A West Nile virus study of Italian organ donors revealed that 1.2% of 1,248 samples were positive and that some of the donors who had been exposed to the virus were from regions where infection wasn’t thought to be a risk. The findings were unexpected and gaps in mosquito and disease surveillance systems could have masked a broader reach of West Nile virus. The data raise concerns about the risk of WNV transmission to organ recipients, and the finding of antibodies in those from low-risk areas illuminates concern about a wider scope of the disease.

The first human cases of WNV infection surfaced in Italy in September 2008, and by the following summer infections were thought to be limited to just four provinces, Bologna, Ferrara, Modeno, and Reggio-Emilia. Based on those findings, health officials issued WNV screening guidance that focused on donors from those areas. A case of WNV transmission to a liver donation recipient shortly before the guidelines went into effect prompted health officials to seek a nationwide survey of WNV prevalence. Their review found antibody responses in donors from Piedmont, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Marche, and Basilicata regions, which surprised the researchers and suggested that WNV infections are occurring in several areas of Italy. Italy needs a more accurate nationwide approach to transplantation risk assessment, as well as better illness and mosquito surveillance, the group concluded.

In another report, researchers reported the first human WNV infections in Greece. The cases were identified this summer between early July and the middle of August. Researchers identified 99 cases, 81 of them with neuroinvasive WNV in the Central Macedonia region of northern Greece. They occurred mainly in patients age 50 and older; the median age was 70. The authors suggested that increased rainfall, high temperatures, and high humidity this summer in some parts of the Central Macedonia region might have contributed to a greater number of Culex mosquitoes. The emergence of WNV cases in Greece serves as a reminder that the virus is a reemerging pathogen in Europe. The events show the need for stronger surveillance systems and response plans. Public health officials need a better picture of WNV risk area in Europe and neighboring areas so they can launch control measures, especially guidelines for blood donation and organ transplants.

FDA reports show multiple biosecurity gaps at two egg farms – Federal officials released their initial inspection reports of the two Iowa companies linked to the nation’s biggest egg recall, which reveal multiple biosecurity breaches, such as rodent infestation, wild birds in poultry barns, and instances in which chicken manure could have contaminated egg-laying areas. Both companies failed to follow and implement their written Salmonella Enteritidis prevention programs. The national outbreak has sickened nearly 1,500 people so far and led to the recall of about 550 million eggs.
Live mice were found inside laying houses at four sites, and numerous live and dead flies were observed in egg-laying houses at three locations. Evidence of wild birds, including pigeons, was found at two locations.

Chicken manure accumulated 4 to 8 feet high underneath the cages at two locations. The weight of the manure at the two locations pushed out access doors, allowing open access for wildlife and other farm animals. At one location, uncaged birds were using tall manure piles to access egg-laying areas. The federal inspectors also saw employees not changing or not wearing protective clothing when moving from laying house to laying house.

The inspection at three Hillandale Farms locations revealed unsealed rodent holes with evidence of live rodents at one of the facilities, with gaps in walls and doors at other sites. Standing water was observed near a manure pit at one of the locations, and liquid manure leaks were noted at two sites. As at Wright County Egg, uncaged chickens were observed tracking manure into the caged hen areas.

The FDA has received one more positive lab result that matches the outbreak strain from spent egg wash water from a facility at Hillandale Farms. Federal officials didn’t comment on what further action they may take, which could include seizure, injunction, or even criminal prosecution, based on the inspection findings. Though the FDA has no reason to believe the practices that investigators turned up are common at all egg-producing facilities, inspectors will be inspecting about 600 large egg producers, those that have 50,000 or more laying hens, over the next several months starting in September with what it believes may be the highest-risk facilities.
The food safety watchdog Center for Science in the Public Interest called the FDA’s 483 inspection report “stomach churning.” “Equally troubling is that the inspections occurred the month following the date that the new egg-safety regulation went into effect. Both companies involved had been on notice that they needed to meet requirements of the new egg-safety rule for over a year.” The “decrepit” conditions in the hen houses suggests that the companies assumed that FDA inspections are so rare, despite the new egg safety rules, that they saw no urgency to fix their buildings to ensure compliance with the new requirements.

In other developments, Sparboe Farms, based in Lichfield, Minnesota, recalled eggs that it received from both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms. The eggs were distributed to grocery stores and foodservice companies in Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota under the following five brand names: Albertson, Sparboe Farms, Liborio Market, Shamrock Foods, and Glenview Farms.

RECALLS & ALERTS:

Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. has recalled about 8,500 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli. The move came after three people, two in Maine and one in New York, were identified as becoming ill from a strain of E. coli. None of the three required hospitalization. The USDA says it believes certain BJ’s Wholesale Club stores in Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Virginia received the products. The recalled ground beef was shipped June 11 to distribution centers, where it was repackaged into consumer-size packages and sold under different retail brand names. The USDA did not identify the brands. The government “strongly encourages consumers to check their freezers and immediately discard any product subject to this recall.” The government lists the recall as Class 1, meaning “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” Consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact the Cargill consumer line at (877) 788-4953.

Signs in False Shepherds & False Religion
“For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also.” 2 Timothy 3:6-9
